Since the main reason I backed this project was to play it on my PSvita I would like a refund.

Man, you did an incredible thing!
You're only going to hear feedback from the people who are affected by this and that's most likely going to be negative, so I'd just like to add my two cents.
I love this game so much. I love the art, design, ambience, pace, just everything. It is incredibly inspiring for my own artwork and game making aspirations.
The decision you've made makes perfect sense though I guess it's easy for me to say as it doesn't affect me.
However, I backed this project in equal amounts for the game and the art companion book. And let me say that I am very excited about the book but also that you have my infinite patience, gratitude and appreciation.
Take care of yourself, your health should always come above a few peoples convenience.

You made a good game and I really enjoyed it. I took on some risk by using kickstarter instead of simply buying the game when it came out and, even though a second pc key is worthless to me, I don't regret backing. That said, I'll probably be more cautious of scope creep in the future. I hope your health sees some rapid improvement, I really can't chastise you for giving up with the scale of the challenges you're facing.

I got my key (Steam) today, so they are definitely sending them out. :-)

I asked for a Steam code as a replacement for the cancelled Wii U version, but I did not get it. This is very frustrating, especially after the long wait until the cancellation was confirmed. Were the developers unprepared to provide replacement keys? They should at least provide an explanation.

Still waiting on my code... Very frustrating... I asked for a ps4 code a week ago and still have not received it. As a backer of this game from day 1 this treatment is unacceptable

    7. Diosisback on September 13, 2016

I asked for a PS4 key switch and I got it yesterday.

I´ve just tried to redeem it and a message says that the code was already used.

Some hidden power is trying to prevent me form playing this game, I guess...

I would have preferred a clear text update instead of a lengthy video.

As a backer who paid for two keys, one for PC and one for Vita, am I eligible for a partial refund, or am I out of luck? A second PC key is of no use to me.

    10. Fábio Teixeira on September 9, 2016

Sorry about your health, I hope everything turns out alright. I sent an email to support@heart-machine.com asking to exchange my Wii U key for a Windows/Steam one. Did you guys get it?
      thanks,

    11. Carl Bricknell on September 9, 2016

Thanks for letting us know and in my opinion health always comes first. You made the right call.

For everyone pissed that they feel cheated, get a refund. He's made it available on all the major popular platforms. I'm sure you have at least one of the other platforms available. They tried, it wasn't possible for whatever reason, but at least a good playable game is available. Appreciate the art...

    12. Ed Powell on September 9, 2016

Given the track records and odd silence from a number of other devs on kickstarter in the recent past, I greatly appreciate the transparency and straight up telling us what's going on here. I'm sorry to hear that this is taking a toll on your well being, and as much as I'd love a WiiU port I'm happy that the game was able to become a reality at all.

Thanks for everything thus far, and I'm eager for what the future will bring.

Just chiming in that videos are hard for me to watch at work, so if you have relevant info to impart, text works much better.

Though I play the PC version (which is awesome, thank you) so it seems like this update wouldn't apply to me anyway.

    14. Josh Greathouse on September 8, 2016

When can we expect to get the new keys? Also, we can run gravity rush, killzone and uncharted on the Vita but your indie game breaks it? Also, how were you planning on getting this to run on the super nintendo if it reach that goal?

It also sounds like they are still working full steam on updates. So are you going to take time for health and miss these updates?

I hope you get over your health problems, but what happened to the external support teams handling the Vita port you spoke of just some months ago? S

Sadly this seems like another Kickstarter bait and switch to get Vita and WiiU suckers to help fund your project.

Yeah I already left my thoughts on the actual YouTube video, but the health excuse is meaningless to me. I don't care. Obviously health matters, get well, etc, etc. but that doesn't change the fact this yet another bait and switch Kickstarter that used the Wii U & Vita audience to help fund the game with the promise of coming out only to be cancelled cause "it's too hard" is a nonsense excuse. This sucks and I'm tired of seeing these KS do this now.

    17. Perplex on September 8, 2016

Disappointing but not unexpected after the last couple of updates. Sadly, if the WiiU version was going to be canceled (like it is now), my other platform of choice would have been the Vita. I guess I backed all the wrong horses.

    18. Carlos Oporto on September 8, 2016

Just finished the game. And I want to say I am really happy I backed this game. :)

    19. Diosisback on September 8, 2016

      Less than two months ago:

"Vita - A more difficult platform, due to it's limited processing power and memory. Much optimization must be done in order for our game to run smoothly for the entirety of the experience. Luckily, we have external support taking charge on this port so we aren't ripping our own hair out. We're getting closer, but again, this is a Fall release at the earliest considering the amount of effort being poured in on this port."

Excuse me, but I just don´t buy the health excuse. There was no need for you to involve personally in these ports, I´d rather be able to play an average port than no port at all.

Thank you for ruining my week, seems like owning a Vita gives almost every developer the right to spit in your face without any repercussions.

    20. Nick Evans on September 8, 2016

I am sorry to hear about the development troubles. Thankfully I did not choose a Wii U key as one of my options (though I toyed with the idea). I hope all Wii U and Vita backers get what they want out of this and hope most of them can at least switch their keys. I would hate for them to not be able to play this game at all.

Seems like the Wii U has gotten the short end of the stick on Kickstarter. A lot of devs promised a Wii U port (sometimes even before the others) and still got denied a game in the end.

    21. Ted Watts on September 8, 2016

The creator should of course prioritize his health; it's better to be Dave Chappelle than Kurt Cobain and I encourage everyone to make that same choice.
However, while it is the proper choice for him to make, and I understand why that choice is being made, the failure is not ok, and should not be simply forgiven. Vita and Wii U backers who were part of this $645k Kickstarter which was funded 23 times its goal about 35 months ago are being told 26 months after estimated delivery that it will never be delivered. And we get whatever it is we choose to default to after everyone else whose ports didn't get cancelled got the things they chose (I can't recall any mentions of what happened to the Ouya port, so maybe that's an exception; video doesn't seem to mention it as something being worked on or an option to choose as a replacement). And we're told about it in a video that (i) if removed from Youtube will disappear as a record of what happened in the update (unlike a normal text based Kickstarter update which can't be swept away) and (ii) which we can't easily scan through for the relevant bits (Vita and Wii U ports cancelled) the way we could for a text update in our email; we had to work to find out. If this pops up on Playstation Plus, I'll feel extra kicked in the teeth that the version I didn't really want but that I had to settle for could have been mine without any extra cost.

TL;DR: Get well, but it's not ok.

    22. haitechan on September 8, 2016

It is a bit sad to see both versions won't come out but health is first! I backed for two copies (one for Wii U and one for Vita) and have no problems switching one to PC. Sadly, I don't own a PS4 or Xbox One and won't get them for at least a couple of years since gen game consoles are super expensive in my country, so I will request a refund for the other one.

I think, I should say that I understand. Your health is paramount and that you should look after yourself. You've accomplished much for what's already been done, and I most definitely appreciate the transparency and passion with how much you've undertook.

I would also ask for understanding in how I want to progress. $109 is a lot of money and far more than I'm willing to spend in light of new events. I suppose I'll need to research how I'd like to proceed, but I'm honestly unsure if I want an artbook for a product that is not what I invested in.

    25. David Tran on September 8, 2016

That is very sad news to hear that your health is not up to scratch and that the port to Wii U and Vita would require you to build a new version from scratch. I hope you get better and still endeavour to support the game with patches down the track. At least I can still enjoy it on PC.

This is actually good news of some sort because I'll be finally able to play it. It's nice to get some closure with this.

I didn't realise there were so many like me who only had the Wii U as an option :/ It weirdly makes me feel a little better.

Still, I'm pretty upset that I can't play the (very cool) game I backed for, more so even because the Wii U often gets the shaft in these indie campaigns and it's always exciting to find yourself with a new IndieU game on the way, so it's super disappointing to hear it's been dropped... but it's a tremendous workload you've taken on, and I hope your health improves! I'm sorry to hear how badly it's affected you. Health is one of those things most people take for granted until it slips away from them. Get better soon!! ;(

So far I got to download the OST, the manual and a bunch of wallpapers.

Quite expensive for a 75$ backup in 2013.

As an old school gamer, I have been really looking forward to this and it just always felt like a game that belonged on Nintendo. That being said, health always comes first, so I wish you the best. When I kickstart things, I know that I'm not buying anything, I'm investing in someone's dream. And I'm glad I could help in some small way for your dream to come true and for so many to get to enjoy your game. I hope you are proud of what you've accomplished.
Unfortunately, I don't own another console, and sitting in front of my computer is not enjoyable for long periods, so I won't be exchanging for another key. Maybe some day down the road I'll have a chance to play it on something else. Best of luck to you guys.

I haven't played HLD yet, as I selected and have been patiently waiting on the Wii U version. I feel your game would be at home on a Nintendo console and I was excited at the possible Gamepad uses.

In short, I'm the audience you're afraid of disappointing.

So, please take this to heart when I say it: Do NOT worry about this decision at all.

You all have put everything into this game, and at a point, you've got to stop. Because of your specific circumstances, Alex, you had to stop a bit earlier than where you would have liked, but that's okay. Any decent human being would understand that. I'd like to think most people who knew what's going on would have even wanted this decision.

Knowing that I can get a key for a different platform (or request a refund, if I suddenly went insane and decided HLD didn't look amazing), I'm not disappointed in the least.

Please don't let this stress you out anymore than it already has, and please take care of your health.
