About this project

***Update***

Thank you!  With a little more than a day before the deadline, we reached our goal.  My most heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who pre-ordered a calendar and supported this project!

We are still accepting pre-orders, so reserve your copy today!

For the next twelve months, you will find yourself in a strange, familiarly alien world.  It is a world of shadowy forests and living stone.   A world where the sea and the wind wear faces;  where great and eternal animals converse with colorful spirits.  Where, in 2012, a dragon is the waterfall it bursts from.

Mostly, it is a world of paper.

About the Calendar

I've been making art from paper for... a bunch of years now.  No paint, no ink, just paper just the way I find it, painstakingly designed, cut, layered, and glued together into pictures.  The 2012 Cut Paper Art Calendar is a collection of 12  favorite pieces from the last couple of years, plus 365 days (give or take) for you to fill with all the things you love to do.  All the artwork is finished, and the calendar is almost ready to roll to the printer's.  Thanks for checking out my project, and for your help.

Where the Money Goes

Printing mostly.  The donations you make cover the cost of printing of the full-color A4 size wall calendar (around 8 1/4 x 12 inches, or 16 1/2 inches high when open).  It also includes the cost of packaging for safe shipment all over the world from here in Fukuoka, Japan, and the shipping costs for all your rewards (unless otherwise noted).

FAQ

  • That's a good question. The short answer is no, probably not.

Aside from the fact that it would be tough to afford the printing fees on my own, I'm also looking at the Kickstarter campaign as a way to test the do-ability of the calendar. Although I love the idea of making a calendar and offering a bunch of art at an affordable price, there are some limitations with the whole calendar idea.

The short shelf life is the biggest thing. Being a lover of nature, I'd hate to have 100 or more calendars sitting around after January.

On the plus side, I'm not going to be discouraged if the campaign falls short. I've picked up a bunch of new fans, so the effort I've put in so far has been worthwhile.

I might mope around in my darkened studio for a few days, but then I'll just dust myself off and try to come up with an even cooler project that more people will want to get behind. I've wanted to do limited edition giclee prints for awhile now (a bit pricier than a calendar, tho). And every artist wants to put out a book.

I'll just have to mull it over, no matter what happens.
