The ladies behind Norma's are getting ready to open a casual yet elegant beer and wine bar on Woodward Ave. Our goal is to create a warm and inviting place for you to enjoy a great bottle of wine over a delicious local cheese board with homemade crackers, fresh bread, savory spreads and sweet spicy jams. In addition to offering a large menu of wine and local craft beer bottles, patrons will also enjoy snacking on pickled CSA veggies, house made salsas and cured smoked meats.
Though we will not be serving hard alcohol, we will be offering an interesting and diverse sangria and sparkling cocktail menu, as well as ports, dessert beers and ice wine.
The menu will focus on local and even some not for profit farms and will feature a large selection of jarred items that can be purchased to take home. New York, and specifically Queens, have been good to us and we want to show our support for our home by buying and promoting local.
Keeping our environmental ethics in mind, we hope our Kickstarter community can help us raise funds to use recycled wood and green products to furnish Julia's. We will be visiting our local salvage yards and collaborating with 2 local wood craftsman to create something familiar and unique at the same time.
We feel like Ridgewood is missing a great beer and wine bar. We want to create the perfect date spot or a place to spend time with friends and feel spoiled. Our goal is to pick all of our favorite things about wine bars and leave out all the stuffy pretense.
Risks and challenges
We've finally found the perfect spot to make this dream come true on Woodward Ave, we will be signing the lease soon. The hardest part of our start up will be obtaining the licenses needed to operate. But having already gone through this process with Norma's we now know what to expect. We have been given quite a bit of support from the owner of the building, who will be getting some of the hardest parts of our application done for us, and will be allowing us some time to build.
We've got rent, plumbing, electrical and licensing fees covered, what we need help purchasing is the custom furniture, glass wear, cheese boards and decor pieces. We have set our goal low in order to reach the bare minimum, but the more money we raise the nicer the space can be.
We also learned that starting small and building up is the safest way to ensure success. So in the beginning our menu will be a bit smaller and our hours will be shorter until we feel that the kinks have been worked out.
As successful small business women we also understand that we need to be present to hear the direct feedback from our customers. This way if there are changes that need to be made we can make them right away.
We will personally pour your glass of wine and listen to your requests in hopes of creating a spot that is as much yours as ours.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
