Centered around a unique art direction and designed by a team of award winning designers, every card has a personal story and plays a key part in the overall narrative.
Conquer your opponents and collect their cards! Imagine taking your opponent's rarest card from beating and outsmarting them. Trade with friends, craft or unlock exclusive cards from the story campaign. Earn bragging rights as you climb the leader boards to claim the top spot.
Become immersed in a beautifully composed soundtrack from an accomplished composer as you explore an expansive virtual world. Epic music to perfectly accompany your amazing adventures!
Explore the dying planet of Artalys by completing numerous quests from Xander (your mentor in the game). By advancing the story mode campaign, you will be able to unlock new Divisions, Cards, exclusive loot, story chapters, fight fearsome bosses and learn more of the storyline.
The story mode campaign and online multiplayer will be seamlessly integrated, allowing you to do both tasks in one environment. Challenge other Eminence players by interacting with them or speak to Xander to do the main scenario quests.
There are two types of combat; Story battles and Multiplayer battles. Story battles are integrated within the narrative. These will be battles you encounter by participating in quests.
Multiplayer battles allow you to challenge other players. They can be initiated either via direct interaction with that player in the virtual world of Artalys or through a request from the game menu.
Eminence Coins are used as the in game currency to purchase card packs, items, armour and gear from NPC merchants or the marketplace.
You will earn Eminence coins by doing various activities such as winning card battles, completing quests and winning tournaments. Coins serve as the backbone for the story's financial economy.
Artalys, the world of Eminence enters its fifth cycle of destruction brought upon by a raging Sun, which endures a cycle of death and rebirth every 10,000 years. In a world where fantasy and science collide, troubling Empires shelter ancient relics which have provided nations with the power of Alchemy - in a bid to learn of their secrets believing they may serve as key artefacts to saving the planet from its ultimate demise.
In light of the planet's nearing end, the Aeterna empire has broken its alliance with Ixion and Wilkurse, causing an all out war for possession of the relics. Nations have once again become embroiled in conflict and instability. A legendary Alchemist, who has experienced the calamities of the previous cycle, makes his move to align the pieces of an ancient prophecy depicting a series of events needed to occur to save the world from salvation.
Amid the war, an ex-Aeternian knight and an old student of Xander, Kronos is hell bent on seizing the relics for his own purpose. Fearing the motives of his former student are part of a larger sinister plot, Xander embarks on a quest to prevent the ordeals of his time repeating and align the final events of the prophecy.
An epic adventure where fantasy and science collide awaits. Join Xander in a desperate quest to change the course of the world and challenge the forces attempting to distort the fate of an ancient prophecy.
Choosing Your Hero
In Eminence: Xander’s Tales you play as Xander's last disciple. Each player can choose from a wide range of cosmetic appearances. Choices include your hairstyle, eyes, nose and skin colour making sure you have plenty of choices to express your individuality and helping you stand out from the crowd.
Accessorise Your Character
Seize weapons and armour dropped from foes as you defeat them in battle. Every item has its own unique trait and ability. Choose how you customise your avatar wisely as the armour and gear you select will affect your story mode battles.
With Guilds, you can form allegiances with other players or invite your friends to join and earn bragging rights by defeating other Guilds. Work together as a team to tackle some of the games toughest quests.
What we’re most excited with Eminence is you're not just backing our project; you’re becoming a part of it. We feel that we're on to something pretty special and we have huge ambitions for this project, involving the community was a key decision from the very beginning.
But despite this ambition, there's only four us juggling hats around (design, coding, scenario writing etc). We're a small team and don't have a huge budget. We need your support to make Eminence the best game it can be.
Even with our limited resources, we've done a lot of work already! However we still need to complete artwork for the cards, the explorable world, writing the stories and not to mention still a fair amount of coding.
£50,000 is our MINIMUM goal of what we need to deliver the base Eminence game to iOS/Android smartphones. This will ensure that we meet the last of our core art and engineering requirements.
Risks and challenges
Building an MMO card game of this depth for smart phone and tablet devices definitely has its challenges. Put simply, a game such as this hasn't been built for these devices before but we've been working on this project for a while and we've already solved a lot of issues both from a technical and UX perspective.
Programming Resources - With only one core engineer and a part-timer, we're approaching our limit with speeding up development, hence why we're here. With your support, we can bring on more development power which will ultimately allow us to get the game into your hands quicker. Bringing on another developer will allow David to focus on the core game and story experience. We have a possible candidate who is an industry AAA veteran. If the project is successful, they will join us full time.
Design Resources - There are a lot of cards to create but we plan to work with additional designers to help produce some of the card designs. We can eliminate the risk of cards losing their unique style by setting a strong guideline and meticulously overseeing the final versions to ensure they fall within the Eminence brand.
We realize just like life itself there are no guarantees but our promise is to honor our commitment in fulfilling all of our goals should we meet our target. Not to mention we want to provide you with adequate updates of our journey to keep you in the loop and ensure that your support really is making a difference.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes. Although the game uses a free to play model, we have set out to create a game which prioritises fun, an amazing gaming experience and monetizes respectfully.
In Eminence: Xander's Tales you get five random cards to begin with and one freebie card pack a day (minus the rewards above if you’re not a backer) guaranteed for the duration of your account. There are numerous ways to obtain in game items like cards without spending Coins (the games virtual currency).
You can play 100% of the game without paying a cent.
We're now supporting iOS and Android devices from launch. We plan to support most platforms listed in the platform graphic at the top of the page, these include (Tablets, PC/Mac via Steam, Ouya and Consoles). We have stretch goals for each of these additional platforms and with your support, we can definitely achieve them!
In Eminence, you obtain cards by opening digital card packs (the analogy is similar to that of the real world when you purchase cards from your local store). The total number of cards you get from opening a single card pack varies according to each Division.
You will be able to purchase card packs using Eminence Coins. Individual card packs will cost 10 coins.
The number of cards you get from a single pack will vary according to the Division. As an example, for a Division with 200 cards, a single pack from that Division will provide 5 cards.
Eminence Coins is the in game currency which is used to purchase card packs, items, armour and gear from NPC merchants or the marketplace.
You will also earn Eminence coins by doing various activities such as winning card battles, completing quests and winning tournaments. Coins serve as the backbone for the storys financial economy.
If we only achieve our minimum goal, we can deliver four full Divisions (200 cards) upon launch. But with your support, we can release more by hitting the relevant stretch goals.
No, you will be able to take your Eminence data (Divisions, Cards, Profile Stats and Achievements) with you when you play the game on a different platform. This means you’ll be able to retain your data regardless of the device you’re using. Our vision is to allow you to play with friends whether they’re playing from a smartphone, tablet, the web or a console.
This depends on the trading rules you and your opponent have agreed to use before a game begins but yes if you lose a game and have played with the "Card Steal" rule, your opponent may choose to take any of the five cards you used for that game.
Sometimes you may just want to play games for fun, without wagering any cards. You can turn off the "Card Steal" rule and none of your cards will be taken if you lose. Both players have to agree to turning the rule off before a game begins.
All KS exclusive cards will be protected by default from card steal unless you choose to "unlock" them for use with that rule or trading with others. We understand that these cards will be very special/precious and not everyone will want to wager them, but we still want to give you full control should you ever wish to do so. Currently, this is a feature only available to KS backers.
What kind of restrictions will there be in place to prevent very high levels from bullying lower level players?
We have mechanisms which match players according to their skill level. Some of the advanced rules are only available when you reach a particular rank.
But we don't restrict players from choosing their own games. If a beginner wishes to challenge a higher skilled player, they'll only be able to duel based on the rules which the beginner has access to, not the other way round.
The higher ranked player can also choose to accept or decline.
Yes, cards gained in story mode follow the standard card mechanics and are capable of being won by other players if you use the Card Steal rule and lose, so try not to lose!
Players who have less than five cards in their deck will not be able to duel. To duel in card battles, you must have a minimum of five cards.
Of course! That’s the nature of Eminence: Xander's Tales.
Players can create Duel decks from their total card pool for fast choosing. Card restrictions per deck are determined by the rule modifiers chosen.
E.g. for all Normal, Combo and Some Eminence rules:
Before a duel, you can either select 5 cards directly from your pool or select a pre-built deck to use. You can place any level of cards in each deck to cater for the strategies you need.
E.g. For Story Mode and the Gem rule:
You can customise your decks to hold up to 40 cards to use.
So in summary:
Decks of up to 40 cards apply to Story Mode and the Gem rule. Decks of 5 cards apply to PvP duels and all other rules.
Yes, we plan to allow players to create up to 4 - 5 characters per account (1 per Division). We may increase this number in further patches.
We're looking into different ways of how to tackle this issue. Our goal is to ensure players have the best experience possible. As it is hard to gauge whether some players do this intentionally (some players may lose connectivity), we have come up with several approaches which which will take the best action depending on the situation. More information will be shared once we've ironed out a solid solution.
We welcome designers who are interested in contributing artwork to Eminence. If you’re a top notch designer and feel that you could work with Eminence's unique art style then give us a shout at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As much as we’d love to, it’s too early for us to start sharing information but as a backer; you will be the first to know of news relating to Eminence: Chains of Delzerus. All we can say for now is that it will be a full blown RPG title with a twist.
