About this project
La Cosa Nostra is a 3-5 player mafia card game where players try to grab the most money, double-crossing the other mob bosses in the process. The game takes about an hour and a half to play. The main mechanics are negotiation, hand management and dice rolling.
Do you want to be the head of the biggest, baddest mob family in the Big Apple? Then you have to be willing to backstab anyone to do it. Enlist the most cut-throat criminals to do your dirty work for you. Assign tasks to the gangsters in your famiglia using the job cards in your hand, or send them into town to acquire allies and buy up businesses. Meanwhile, form alliances and negotiate with other capos to get ahead. But never trust your 'friends' because they'd screw you over in a heartbeat for the next opportunity to score some dough. Explore the variety of moneymaking options available to you: loose women, illegal substances, gambling and ofcourse, waste management. The player who has collected the most money after four rounds is the kingpin, the big kahuna, the Don Corleone, the winner of the game.
If the thought of backstabbing family and friends to become the richest guy at the table appeals to you, back us and become a proud owner of La Cosa Nostra. Now, are you ready to 'get connected'?
Christmas is coming and we want to offer you the option to gift this game to a friend. We created a special print out christmas card + gift certificate for you to send to a friend. The game will be delivered in February when we ship out the backer games.
The game has English text on all of the cards. Rules will be included in English, French, German and Dutch. You can review the rules by clicking the banner below.

A written Review is done by our friend Peer Lagerpusch, you can check it out here:
Wiktor Szafranowicz made an interview with the designer of the game:
„If you're not concerned (and even happy) with vastness of negative interaction and specific topic (organized crime, drugs, prostitution, corruption), LCN is really great game. To be honest it is probably the meaniest game I've ever played... what makes me love it even more! (…)
So if you like mean games, mechanics corresponding with topic, non-trivial addictive gameplay and consistent, climatic graphics... I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse: go to Kickstarter and back LCN."
Review by Kamil Lazarowicz
"If you tend to take the game a little too seriously and allow the rivalry to follow you out of the game world, then you should stay away from La Cosa Nostra. To all others, I highly recommend this game. Before you can say ‘knife’ the game puts you under its spell and will not let you go. La Cosa Nostra is one of my highlights from 2014."
Review by Peer Lagerpusch
"Meanness, the game. Very well executed and highly evocative mafioso wars. Quite a simple game to teach, and wonderfully illustrated."
BGG comment from coralsaw
"This is a real gem!...if you are looking for a Mafia game, dont look any longer, buy it! I think a english edition is in the pipe. La Cosa Nostra is an offer you cant refuse!"
BGG comment from xbjoernx
"Everyone should have this."
BGG comment from Makulatur
"Only few games out there catch the theme so perfectly as La Cosa Nostra. You really feel as if you were in the shoes of Tony Soprano or Don Vito Corleone. The game flows smooth and the player interaction is one of its core elements."
BGG comment from DonDogo
"Like it a lot! This is player interaction pure. (…) Played it yesterday, with five people, almost FOUR hours! And no minute was boring! So much fun. Thanks for that game!"
BGG comment from pilarius
"This is a real good Mafia themed game. The interaction between the players is very high and you can never trust anyone. A must have for every boardgame collection. I realy hope for an expansion in the future. This game deserves it."
BGG comment from Tyrannforce
If we reach certain levels of funding the following additions/upgrades to the game will be unlocked. New stretch goals will be revealed, as the campaign progresses.
It's up to you how you want to support us. Starting at €25,- where you will receive 1 game of La Cosa Nostra. You can also gather people in your area and do a group pledge of 6 games to reduce shipping costs. You can find the different levels here, you can select your pledge on the top right side of the kickstarter page.
Watch the making-of video, showing the creation of a "You as a Gangster in the game" artwork:
If you want to add more than just one of the other games please refer to the table below.
How does this work, let's say I live in the USA and I pledged the London Mafia boss level (La Cosa Nostra + Key to the City - London). I want to add Vanuatu(€39) and a moneyclip set(€7) to the pledge. To do this I will have to manually add €46,- to my pledge. At the end of the campaign when the surveys go out I will have to add these items then.
The estimated delivery of the games will be February 2017.
For shipping we are currently working with fullfilment partners based in Europe and North America. Please note that these rewards are shipped from within Europe and the United States, so no extra customs costs will be charged there.
For calculating the shipping costs to your country please check the table below. (these prices are not valid for shipping outside of this campaign). These costs are implemented in each pledge level.
Both Arno Quispel and myself (Paul Mulders), the team at Quined Games, really like games with some direct confrontation between players, and we wanted to see more of that in our collections. You can see that in some of the other games we've published, like American Rails, Carson City and Vanuatu. With this game, we're taking that interaction aspect to a whole new level. We fell in love with the game when we first played it, it's all about making deals, double-crossing and protecting yourself against the shady moves by your fellow players.
We contacted the designer, Johannes Sich, last year about doing the art for another release (Haspelknecht) and we met at Spiel 2015 in Essen. Together we decided that this game, after a very succesful German debut, deserved an international version. We don't have the funds to release this game out of pocket, so to make it a reality we decided on a Kickstarter release.
We think the art of this game, made by Johannes himself, is really excellent and really gives it that underworldly feel. Johannes & Daniel Goll also put tremendous effort in creating the gameplay. They even designed some extra promo cards especially for this campaign. If you want to help us bring this game to a wider audience, which it really deserves, back it and become a proud owner of La Cosa Nostra.
Risks and challenges
Quined Games has been in the board game business for more than ten years now. Arno has years of experience within the industry, which gives him first hand insight in the do's and don'ts. We are giving our 100 % to make it the best Kickstarter Campaign we've ever ran.
Our last Kickstarter Campaigns were handled with care and we delivered the products as we promised. Or we are still taking care of your order, like the shipping of Vanuatu. This campaign WILL deliver when we reach our goal.
I myself (Paul) will keep close contact with the fans from the start of this campaign (and have been lobbying for this game since long before). I have learned from all the little mistakes from the last campaigns along the way. This time I am even more prepared.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
