We're so grateful for your support! At this moment, our intentions and focus are very much on making Mesquite Tarot the best it can be. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves and lose perspective on what a special opportunity it is to bring this creation to you. We are so grateful that you’ve allowed us to make this a reality-- thank you!

That being said, the making of Mesquite has awakened what we believe to be a rare and special collaborative relationship. Our working partnership is one that values and emphasizes curiosity and compassion. We’ve spent many hours cementing our intentions and are excited to continue creating.

$10,000:

Publication of 500 Mesquite Sets

Production of tarot-related goodies available for purchase.

Including but not limited to:

-> Mesquite Tarot deck box to keep your cards cozy

-> Printed tarot cloth

Like many of you, we like to keep our cards in a special space— we’ve been dreaming of creating beautifully crafted boxes for deck storage. We also love the idea of making a reading cloth that will give space perfectly fit for your mesquite spreads. If we make this funding goal, we’ll have the extra push to bring these and other accessories your way. As we progress further in the design process, we’ll be reaching out for your vote on which designs you want to see made into reality.

$13,000:

All of the above as well as:

Production of a Mesquite Tarot Journal— a lovely way to track daily card pulls and develop a deeper understanding of the cards and the way they relate to your life. Early in our personal tarot practices we began drawing a card each morning, pondering it as we sipped coffee and woke to the world. We kept (and still keep) journals with pages for each card in the tarot. The impressions we wrote for each card began to evolve into a story, and our understanding of the tarot deepened. With this more complete connection with the cards also came a growing understanding of ourselves. We want to share this process as part of the Mesquite discourse and provide an object that enables exploratory practice.

$16,000:

In addition to all of the above, this funding will provide resources for the formation of an umbrella LLC under which we plan to collaborate on other projects that advance awareness, foster understanding, and provide avenues for story and connection.

This funding goal includes seed money to begin our next creation! We’re very excited to share another endeavor— one that is both a continuation of and complementary tool to the Mesquite Deck & Guidebook:

A translation of symbols— a publication combining images and words to provide understanding of archetypes and symbols. Like Mesquite, this will be presented in a minimal and approachable style, one that gives space to access and reference semiotics in a fluid, clean, and un-intimidating way. Our interest in the world of symbols and the balance we’ve found in communicating through images and language will allow us to greet this project with a freshness and originality that celebrates the mystery of the human experience.

This funding goal will also give us the resources to create a website and shop where we can share:

  • events, workshops & community collaborations
  • publications tools for meditation and connection

Beyond the fulfillment of these goals, our partnership also seeks to integrate concepts of story, connection, and movement in inventive and expansive ways. We’re excited to begin an inquiry into the many overlapping incarnations of these ideas. We hope you can also see a glimpse of the possibility that lies ahead and will help us bring it into reality!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement at this unfolding adventure. Thank you for joining us on the journey!

Mesquite Tarot offers a fresh and accessible continuation of the tarot tradition. The Mesquite deck and guidebook build a connective, intuitive, and soft space to begin or deepen your tarot practice.

The images we're working with are clean, minimal, meaningful. They contain worlds of symbolism but don't overwhelm. Our interpretations encourage understanding of different aspects of each card without pushing them into binaries. They invite practitioners to check in with themselves to see where they might fall on a spectrum of meaning, whether the card appears reversed or upright.

As a contemporary deck, we have designed our images and descriptions to cultivate inclusivity and communicate connection beyond gender and race.

Each standard set will include:

  • 78 2.25" x 3.5" smooth gloss cards printed on 350 GSM card stock-- 22 Major Arcana, 56 Minor Arcana
  • 4" x 7" softbound guidebook with card image, keywords, interpretation, and spectrum diagram for each of the 78 cards. The guidebook will also include sample spreads and supplementary material.
  • Cloth pouch to hold your Mesquite cards

Our name honors our roots here in Austin, Texas and the community we call home. Honey Mesquite, the variety of tree we see in abundance, has one of the deepest root systems of any plant, taproots regularly reaching over 50 feet deep. It is strong and soft, it draws survival up from groundwater submerged far below the surface. Mesquite blossoms and pods can be ground into flour, the leaves and bark can make nourishing salves, the tree in all its parts holds healing properties.

Under the dappled shade and soft light of the mesquite we planted the beginnings of this project and we hope that with your help, we can watch it blossom fully.

Tarot is a practice of seeking clarity, of setting aside time for introspection and reflection. As in other meditative practices, it can give us perspective on the big things and the little things. It carves space to zoom out and gather insight that can assist us in making decisions that are rationally, emotionally, and spiritually intelligent.

Tarot sometimes has a reputation for being about divination or future-telling. To us it’s more about using the power of symbols to bring ourselves into a clearer state of conscious awareness. The 78 cards in a deck represent the range of human experience, archetypes, personalities. They allow us to project our self and our experience onto ideas that have a universal quality, a history that crosses culture and time.

If we can better understand our own motivations, the light and dark within each of us, we can let go of fear. We can better understand others and begin to create healing in the larger world. Right now feels like an important time to do that.

Though we are by no means the most learned tarot scholars, tarot has provided us a path for reflection and growth that we are excited to share. We are still students of tarot, and we will continue to be. It’s our hope that we can bring another perspective to this practice and continue in a collective conversation that fosters clarity and compassion.

We've put a lot of our time and resources into the project already and we're ready to push forward to the final stage. The funding goals we've listed are for a first run of 300 Mesquite sets.

Our costs are pretty straightforward:

  • Printing costs for the cards
  • Publication of the guidebook
  • Kickstarter fees
  • Gifts and accessory costs
  • Misc. supplies (i.e. computer software, office supplies, research material)

We want to see this creation as a reality and we hope you do as well! If we exceed our goal, we intend to publish additional sets and extend distribution. Should we be so lucky as to receive further funding, our aim is to use this project as a base to begin more expansive creative endeavors.

If you'd like to own the Mesquite Deck & Guidebook, now is a great time to reserve your softbound first edition. We're working hard to make sure these are high quality objects that will last a lifetime of reading.

Limited First Edition: Our limited first edition features an artfully bound book. Each guidebook is stitched by hand using sustainable unbleached paper, hand-waxed linen, and a classic binding technique called the coptic stitch. We hope this will be a treasured object adorning your bookshelf or altar.

The Major Mesquite: Only one available! The ultimate one of a kind collection. Includes:

  • Limited first edition hand-bound guidebook with sustainable unbleached paper and waxed linen.
  • Mesquite Tarot Cards
  • Blank Mesquite tarot journal as seen in our video. Hand-stitched. Great for logging your daily draws!
  • Also includes a dreamy vintage biology book, hollowed out to hide your treasures or store your tarot cards. Hand carved by Aleisha.
  • Hand-sewn special edition silk card pouch. We're only making one of these! Rather than the cotton pictured below, this pouch will be silk and will have a unique design.
  • The set will be accompanied by a personalized letter and art print thanking you for your support of Mesquite!
  • Mesquite tarot cards

Sanctuary Snake Illustration: The snake is a symbol of transformation and regeneration and is an image that appears consistently throughout the Mesquite Tarot deck. This original ink drawing measures 11" x 17" and is matted in a 16" x 20" frame. This piece exists only in this original form and is completely one of a kind.

60 Minute Therapeutic Massage with Cupping:  Celeste Egedy of Golden Ground Massage works with the highest intention of healing to relax and nurture. Massage and cupping therapy directly affect the nervous system and positively impact stress levels. The massage will be accompanied by yoga and other self-care techniques that can be continued at home for maximum benefit and integration.

The World art print: 11x17" giclee print of Key 21, The World. Printed on fine art paper with 1/2" borders.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support and affirmation we've received on this project so far and are very encouraged that we can meet our funding goal. Risks and challenges

We are in the process of creating all 78 illustrations and interpretations and are on track to finish before July. With this timeline, we will be able to finish printing and publication and have each set ready in mid-August. Maintaining momentum on this project has been both challenging and fruitful so far and we expect even more energy and drive in the coming months.
At this point, our only real risk is in not receiving funding.
We've done research into the companies we will be working with for production and publication and are confident in the quality and sustainability of what we're producing.
Because we are limiting our hand-bound editions to 22, this labor-intensive process will be manageable. We have set aside time and space within each of our professional lives to be available to fully commit to all aspects of this undertaking and we take your support very seriously. If there are any delays in production, we will personally reach out to each of our backers.
