About this project
Going On: A Book About Life is based on a series of "illuminated journals" I
kept during the year following my son's death. I have taken a selection of pages
and written accompanying text about that year, my extraordinary son, and life
before and after his drowning death at the age of twenty. I would like to
publish my book in the hope that it can help others as they face life's
challenges. Mostly, I want to say, "you may not think you can go on, you may not
want to go on, hang in there. You will find a way, your way forward."
Below you will see one of my heart drawings, followed by some sample Journal Pages. Note: These are the original pages; the book will have explanatory text for each page as some of the page text is difficult to follow. There will also be an accompanying text about the experience of writing the journals and filling in some details that could not be included due to space constraints.
I wrote 11 journals in that first year and each journal has 50 pages, so, clearly, I could not include all of the pages. In addition, I omitted pages that referred to other people except in a few cases where I had permission of the person mentioned.
