About this project
LIBERTY is a smart, funny and heartwarming musical about The Statue, but also is a tribute to our Immigrant, African-American and Native American heritage. And what better place to launch the show than in NYC, the nation's cradle of immigration, visited by 50 million tourists a year -- and where more than 8 million people live, work and play in the shadow of this enduring symbol of freedom?
Our production goal is to open by October 28th, 2013 (The Statue of Liberty's 127th Birthday) and run for at least one year before taking the show on the road. Our location will be in or near Historic Battery Park - dependent upon availability at the time our funding goal has been met. Recording of the cast CD will take place after we open, and the delivery of MP3's and CD's have been estimated for January 2014 to take this production time into consideration.
We look forward to welcoming our international and domestic tourists, as well as NYC residents who do not speak English fluently. LIBERTY will provide real-time translations of the show, in as many as 10 different languages, on portable hand-held units.
Few people know that Liberty was almost deported after the government vetoed the funding for her pedestal. The working people of late 19th Century America participated in the first nationwide Crowd-Funding Campaign to secure Liberty's perch in New York Harbor. It's only fitting that we use KickStarter to bring her story to everyone again! With your help, we'll produce the show "tour-ready," so that we can open in New York, and book our North American Tour without having to raise additional funds.
And the best part, is that we'll take you with us! Depending on the funding level you choose, your name, your photo or a personal video profile will be a part of the show - both in New York and on tour.
Liberty's Story is Our Story! Pitch in and help spread the word as we bring her journey to life - From Pedestal to Stage!

Risks and challenges
Our production team members, who have worked on Broadway, off-Broadway and in touring companies around the the world, will design the show for a variety of locations. The flexibility of a "tour-ready" show will allow us to run in existing theaters, raw spaces, portable venues and amphitheaters. The versatility of the design and the accessibility of the content of the show makes LIBERTY a portable, family-friendly musical event!
Producing live theater is very costly in New York. You may have noticed our very ambitious budget goal of $1 Million! This is exactly what we need to design, build, rehearse, and market the show "tour ready".
To ensure that all of the work we've done, and all that we still have to do can find and build an audience, we've laid the groundwork for support in the NYC Tourism Industry by making friends with the companies that serve our visitors. To produce a show in New York in compliance with the rules set forth by Actor's Equity, SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers), and IATSE (The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) Unions, secure a safe and accessible venue, cover rehearsal costs, insurance, and marketing, is expensive. Many shows that crowd-fund are raising money for a short festival or showcase production. Few of the costs listed above apply to festival and showcase productions.
Do you have a relationship with the National Park Service & The Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation?
We are very proud to be friends with the National Park Service (Liberty Island is a National Park), and The Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation. We were featured performers at both the Re-Opening of The Crown on July 4th, 2009 and The 125th Anniversary of the Statue on October 28th, 2011. It is our mission to continue to enhance the experience of visitors through musical theater, though it is not possible for either organization to support or co-produce our production. They are very busy keeping The Statue safe and accessible.
