THE MAKING OF THE ALBUM:
For the last 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of leading worship in local churches and on weekend retreats. I love the variety of people and music that you experience in these settings. More often than not, I play with different musicians each time, which has taught me a lot about flexibility, and has given me the chance to lead the same songs with completely different instrumentation. Sometimes I play with a full band and other times with only a cellist and a trumpet player. Because of this, we get to experiment with building the sound from the ground up – beginning with my voice and guitar as the foundation.
Making this album has been like that – a truly collaborative experience in which the arranging of each song has been a highlight for me. It's given me the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented guys who began as strangers, but have now become friends. Andy Zipf (Producer) and Matt Williams (Co-Producer & Engineer) have graciously lent their talents to play guitar, bass, percussion, and to sing on the album, for which I am deeply grateful.
The songs on this album are a mix of originals and those you might have heard before. All of them contain the common thread of how we find the Lord as we walk through the highs and lows of our life this side of heaven. I'm a visual person, so I love how the images of scripture teach us about who God is and how he transforms us: light and darkness, the potter molding us like clay, washing away our sins, the refuge found under His wings, the valley of the shadow, and the joy of the mountaintop. I hope these songs will help you to know God better and to know his love for you in the midst of your own valleys.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS:
If you’re new to Kickstarter, here is a little bit about how it works.
Kickstarter is a great tool for independent artists like me in the early stages of their recording careers, and it provides a trustworthy interface that directly connects you to the project.
One of the challenges is that Kickstarter is an all or nothing platform. We have 35 days to raise $11,000, which will cover most of the cost of making the album. If we don’t reach the goal, your card won’t be charged.
Once we reach $11,000, any additional contributions will go towards covering the full cost of making and promoting the album. Also, we plan to give 10% of the overage to International Justice Mission (IJM) – an incredible organization that protects the poor from violence in the developing world. You can find out more about them here: www.ijm.org.
Each level of giving has rewards that go with it. They are just a small way to thank you personally for your generous love and support. I would love to see you at a house concert soon!
WHAT IT COSTS:
We began the process of recording the album in February, funded by seed money that was generously given to get things started. I’m hoping to raise $11,000 to cover most of the cost of producing and releasing the album.
Overview of expenses:
$7700 for recording, mixing, mastering and duplication + $1000 for album artwork & media + $760 for song licenses + $750 for shipping costs + 8%-10% for Kickstarter fees
I've played and sung with so many of you, from North Carolina to Texas to New England and back to Virginia. The privilege is all mine. I couldn’t do this without your support and help, so I want to thank you from the beginning!
