About this project
We love wargaming, and we know what a huge impact the terrain can have on the excitement, energy, and feel of the gaming experience. We've been building and selling terrain for over a year now, and we're grateful to have received enthusiastic reviews from our customers and a positive welcome from the gaming community at large. We handcraft every item from start to finish and take pride in the level of detail and commitment we put into every terrain piece. We're ready to take things to the next level -- that includes casting some of our sculpts into reusable builds, upgrading our power tools, and fixing up our workshop (ie, we need some air purifiers & ventilation equipment so we don't damage our lungs from all the painting we do!).
Our project is to create 7 different wargaming tables in a standard 4'x6' size, in all the environments you love. These will most likely include 1-2 urban tables, a swamp table, a jungle table, a desert table, a Martian/alien table, and a volcanic ashland table -- though they are subject to change in environment. We also hope that most of the terrain on our tables will be molds of our hand-sculpted originals. Almost all of our customers urge us to offer certain types of terrain -- like urban buildings and waste -- but these items aren't economically & efficiently feasible without the ability to sculpt and cast what we make.
Here are some of our items that can benefit from mold-making/casting, and will undergo a complete core redesign. Right now, we sculpt ALL OF THESE BY HAND:
Here some of our base-mounted items that will be sturdier, more consistent, and more cost-efficient with the help of some power tools and cast sculpts:
And here are our extremely popular chair pieces, and a Muddy Pig piece we did, just for fun:
We will be using casts of our original, hand-carved builds to create high-quality, permanent terrain pieces for our customers. For our terrain that is base-mounted, new power tools will allow us to quickly and accurately cut those bases into more organic shapes. Right now, we cut and sand them all by hand -- can you believe that?! This results in a very long product handling time for our customers, something we want to minimize with mold-making and advanced equipment. We want to strike that perfect balance of custom and handmade, not industrialized nor mass produced -- yet also efficient and fairly priced.
Thanks for taking the time to read about our vision. We hope you'll consider supporting us -- either via this Kickstarter, or by visiting our website and buying yourself some seriously b.a. terrain :) http://www.terrainpig.com -- you can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube!! #TerrainPig
PS -- If we exceed our funding goal, we pledge at LEAST 10% of the overages to OTHER KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGNS! Pay it forward, and LIVE YOUR DREAMS!!!!!
Please note that the "Thank Yous & Rewards" DO NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL PRICES of those items -- we're simply using our terrain as Thank Yous for our backers of different donation ranges!
Risks and challenges
We both have day jobs -- what a bummer! With that, and also needing to sleep every once in a while, it is easy for us to fall behind in building our terrain. Hopefully, having casts of our models and power tools will eliminate prep time needed in building our terrain. We always communicate honestly and quickly with our customers, and luckily, we are usually met with patience, understanding, and an appreciation of the artistic process we put into every terrain piece we send out.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
