I thought I'd post a few things that are new here at the top so you don't need to go looking for things below.
First, we've gone through several stretch goals by hitting numbers in Facebook, Instagram, and pledge goals. Our current stretch goals are:
Facebook: 775 Page Folowers for a free Advantage Token. We are currently at 751
Instagram: 200 Followers for a free Invisibility Potion Token. We are currently at 178
Twitter: 100 Followers for Greater Healing Potion Token. We are currently at 53
Pledges: $5,000 in pledges for Curly Cherry unlock. We are currently at about $4,700
Comments: 100 Comments for a Healing Potion Token. We currently are at about 68.
Easiest things to get to right now are Comments and Twitter. I would guess that the vast majority of backers aren't currently following me on Twitter, so go ahead a follow me. Lets get that number up over 100. Likewise with Comments. Go make a comment. Introduce yourself, ask a question, let us know something about what you plan on using your reward for. Just add something that adds to the conversation and we can break through that goal in no time.
One week to go!
There is only a week to go, so take a few seconds to spread the word. Remember to look below for info on how to win a free case. We've had a couple good shares. Remember to #HrothgarsHoard so it is easy to search for, or at the least post the link info in the comments so we can track it.
Hrothgar is back with a premium solution for every game master and player alike. The DM Solution is a combination DM Screen, Dice Tower, Rolling Tray, white board, and storage solution. It is available in various domestic and exotic hardwoods, uses traditional jointery that is both beautiful and strong and gives you options of engravings and 3d sculptures. This will allow you to create a tailored Game Mastering system completely unique to you and your party.
The DM's Solution is a hinged box that is approximately 10" x 9" x 2.5". It is made from solid hardwood using traditional jointery. It is perfectly sized to hold a mouse pad. You can choose from a variety of woods including Cedar, Cherry, Maple, Walnut, Bloodwood, Padauk, Wenge, and Zebrawood. Other woods may be unlocked as the project progresses. The top opens up using steel stop-hinges allowing it to act as a DM screen. The exterior of the top can be plain, engraved with a laser design from one of our partnering artists, or 3d carved from a variety of sculptures. On the inside of the lid is a whiteboard which will allow you to keep notes on your adventure.
A dice tower in matching wood is included with the DM's solution. The dice tower is uniquely designed so that the arms of the randomization chamber are part of the structure of the tower itself. You will not have to worry about losing a removable part when you break the Solution down for transport. On the bottom of the tower are a pair of rare-earth magnets that match up on either side of the tray so you can move the tower to an area most comfortable for you. These magnets help stabilize the tower so that it stays upright when needed, and can be quickly and easily removed when not.
Antique brass plated feet raise the system off the table is standard at no extra cost. Also included at no extra cost is a mouse pad from one of our partnering artists that fits inside the tray. These mouse pads allow you to use metal or gemstone dice without worrying about harming the table surface (or the dice themselves). We have several mouse pads you can choose from thanks to cooperation from Charles Urbach and Grace Allyse, two outstanding artists who have agreed to work with us on this project.
Hrothgar's Hoard released a prototype of the DM's Solution at Gary Con XI in 2019. Ten of these were used by the Adventurer's League staff to great acclaim. A very limited number of revised units were available for sale at Origins which sold out almost immediately.
We have also sent several systems out to reviewers. Take a look at their pages below:
I'm a backer! So beautiful....get yours today...all sorts of customizations possible...I liked the Wenge from Africa! Support your local artists and craftsmen so there can be things of quality in the world! - Stefan Pokorny, Dwarven Forge
"This piece is clearly well made and is gorgeously decorated. It has little claw feet to keep it propped up off the gaming surface, a feature which I personally adore....As far as functionality, I’ve used it in game and I like how it performs. You feel like you’ve got some privacy for your area of the gaming table to keep notes and roll your dice. The very first time I rolled using the tower I got a natural 20!!!" - @mydicevice
"When receiving a Hrothgar’s Hoard product, one thing I can always count on is that the craftsmanship behind the product will be excellent. The DM Solution is no exception to that rule.... I would highly suggest The DM Solution for DMs who have to frequently travel, or who have relatively low table space.... It makes for a great gaming experience, and provides DM’s with the perfect solution for keeping their materials organized." - The Meeple Street , @mackothemeeple
"My favorite part of the package is the dice tower. I think that using magnets to hold it steady in the tray is a pretty ingenious way to do it, and I took it for a test run with my dice. I can tell you that it works well. The tower never felt like it would fall off the tray. All in all, if you're in the market for a dice storage solution, this is a pretty solid buy." - @NewbieDM
"I am utterly in love with the DM set that was sent our way. When I opened the box I literally gasped. The woodwork, metalwork, and engraving are truly something special. The dragon carving just fills my little nerd heart with so much joy. I’ve never had a dice box before, and I feel spoiled rotten that this is my first one... It’s truly a DM's dream come true, simply from a utility standpoint, and the fact that it’s utterly beautiful as well just makes this kit an absolute must-have." - Max, DM of Adventures in Questing
"The kit is big enough to hold everything advertised, making it not terribly big, but not too small, either. If you’re working with a rules light game, you can carry just about everything in here!" - @LibrariaNPC
Bloodwood is a hardwood from tropical South America. It is an extremely dense wood, having a Janka hardness rating of 2,900 lbf. It is a bright red color which darkens over time. Magically, bloodwood is well balanced in masculine and feminine traits. It was well known to amplify elemental energies and is useful for a wide variety of work.
Cherry is an American hardwood common in the United States. Harvested in Appalachia Ohio and West Virginia, this wood reddish-brown in color and has a hardness of 950 on the Janka scale. Its energy is very present and abundant and helps promote clarity and decision making.
Cedar is the softest wood offered by Hrothgar's Hoard. It has a reddish-brown color marbled with light streaks. Knots are common in cedar wood. Cedar wood is used for cleansing negative atmospheres and the summoning of helpful spirits.
Maple is lighter in color than other woods being mostly white or light brown. It is relatively hard with a Janka rating of 950 lbf. It is a spiritual wood, but can have erratic nature, but never strays too far from center making it a useful wood for apprentices.
Padauk is an African Hardwood found in tropical and western Africa with a pale pinkish orange to a deep brownish red and has a Janka Hardness of 1,970 lbf. It is a masculine wood with dynamic, ever changing energy. It can be used in healing, energy, ambition, success and divination.
Walnut is an American hardwood favored for its rich, dark color. The heartwood is a deep, dark brown while the sapwood is a pale yellow-grey to nearly white (we try to use as much heartwoood as possible in our products.) It is relatively hard with a Janka harness of 1,010. Walnut has both masculine and feminine qualities and works well with many personalities. It is useful in both Earth and Water properties.
Wenge is a nearly black wood from central Africa that has a similar grain appearance as Oak (but with black and brown streaks). It is very dense, having a Janka Hardness of 1,930 and can be very difficult to work. It is a masculine wood, favoring fire and air elements, and is good for dispersing dark energies.
Zebrawood is a West African hardwood with alternating stripes of light and dark grains giving it a "zebra-like" pattern. It is fairly dense with a Janka hardness of 1,830. It is a feminine wood and is excellent for any lunar work, divination, or promoting good fortune.
Maybe you don't need everything that a DM Solution can do. That's OK. You can get a dice tray that is perfect for any player or for the whole table. Dice trays are still sized to fit a mouse pad and you will get one of our great mouse pads with it at no additional charge. They are available in any wood that has been unlocked. They also include antique brass plated feet (or if you prefer, no feet). These trays are beautiful and functional. Their slimline height (only about 1.5") lets you see the dice easily and the mouse pad cushions the roll so you can use gemstone or metal dice in them without worry.
This project is all about simplicity in pricing. Hrothgar's Hoard isn't going to nickle and dime you by having different prices for every wood type. Domestic woods are $39. Exotic woods are $59. It is just that simple.
Another option available is an accessory case designed to fit inside the DM Solution. The accessory case holds two sets of dice, one miniature and includes a section for markers, pencils or other accessories. This case can be added for only $39 in domestic woods and $54 in exotic woods. This accessory is great for either the DM or the player!
The case measures 5" x 7.5" and fits inside the DM Solution along side the Dice Tower. It is made from matching hardwood and compliments the DM Solution with its antique brass plated hinges and clasp. It is equally great for either the DM or Player and is offered as an accessory in the Adventurer's Pack pledge level.
Artwork is available to be engraved on the top of these accessories. Choose from any of the designs below for an additional $10. (Final design on some of these is pending).
Beyond wood choice, there are several ways to customize your DM Solution. Once again for this project we are partnering with Charles Urbach and Diesel LaForce to use some of their artwork on their cases. A new artist, Grace Allyse, has also agreed to do some special designs on some of the cases. Additionally, you will have a selection of 3d sculptures to choose from. These engravings and sculptures can be added to your order for a nominal fee.
Engraving options are available for the top of your DM Solution. You can get them regular (as shown) or inverted so that your players can see the image right-side-up when the top is acting as a DM Screen. The cost of these engravings is $25. NOTE: The Urbach and Diesel drawings are still in the concept stage. The design for these has not been finalized, but both artists will have updated drawings for the project soon.
Do you want your Solution to really pop? Hrothgar's Hoard is now offering 3d Models for the top of your case. These models will be carved out of the box's top using a cnc router. It adds an additional $45 to the cost of the case, but oh what a difference it will make!
Every dice tray and DM Solution is sized to accept a mouse pad. Charles Urbach and Grace Allyse have made several of their artwork images available to Hrothgar's Hoard to use on this project. If you pledge at any level that includes a dice tray or a Solution, you get to choose 1 mouse pad for free. Additional pads can be purchased for $15 each. Below are the images you can choose from.
While all of the images above show antique brass feet on the Dice Tray and DM Solution, it should be clear that you have options available to you. There is no price difference between the choices; it is simply an aesthetic choice on your end. In the survey, you will be given the following choices:
No Feet: This option is great for the player or DM who is taking their gear on the road. It is more compact (taking up less room in your pack) and you never have to worry about the legs breaking off because something in your pack got caught on them.
Brass Corners: Normally used on the tops of cases, brass corners are also great for the player or DM on the road. Additionally, they help protect the corners from damage and raise the tray slightly off the table. If you choose brass corners, you will also get a brass clasp on the front of the case.
Antique Brass Feet: These decorative feet raise the case or tray up off of the table. Sudden spills at the table? No worries...the the feet will keep the tray off the table and avoid any liquid. It is the classiest option, but not necessarily the most practical since it will take up more space in your pack.
We want to reward you for helping us spread the word for this project, so we are going to give away two Accessory Cases (in the wood matching your pledge) to two backers. All you have to do is be one of the two best people at getting the word out.
Facebook - Make a post about this project and include a link to the KS page. Whoever gets the most engagements with their post, gets a free Accessory Case in the wood matching their pledge! Engagements include Shares and Comments; your own shares and comments do not count, only shares and comments from others. You must tag Hrothgar's Hoard so we can track this.
Twitter - Whoever's tweet about the project gets the most retweets, also gets a free Accessory Case in the wood matching their pledge. Tweet must include a link to the KS page. Be sure to @HrothgarsHoard and #HrothgarsHoard so we can track this.
Feel free to also post your stats to the project comments board (the more activity in there, the better!)
What would be a Kickstarter project without stretch goals? We have a host of woods that we can offer as well as some more 3d carvings, free give-aways and perhaps even some more artwork from Diesel and Charles.
Early in the project, we are going to get some polls going so we can put things up that are tailored to YOU, our backers. Be sure to look for those and participate. But to get things started, here are a few goals that we can knock out in the first couple days (or maybe hours?)

Hrothgar's Hoard is a small family business in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, just outside of Athens, Ohio. Hrothgar (aka John) does the bulk of the work himself, from design to manufacturing. Osric (aka Dad) handles most of the finishing work, while Duessa (aka Beth) and our homeless dryads "Leaf" and "Stopcallingmeadryad" help out at shows. Kristen is our newest addition, who takes care of online marketing, social-media, and other computery-type things.
The business name comes from a D&D character played in the 1990s by John. He was named after the king in Beowolf, not from some Skyrim game (read a book, kids).
The business concept came after we moved to Appalachian Ohio. While going through some of my old D&D items, I came across a plastic miniature case that I bought at Gen Con back in the mid-80s. It had held up pretty well over the years, but looked rather...umm....*bleh*. I thought to myself, "Self, you can make something like that only better." So, I launched my first Kickstarter project with the idea of making some cases for miniatures made out of local hardwood. That project did well enough that I decided to open a business making game accessories.
Being in the Appalachian foothills, lumber is plentiful. I developed a relationship with the owner of a sawmill and dry-kiln in the area who responsibly harvests locally grown wood. I use this wood in over 75% of domestic wood products.
There is a large Amish community a little to the North that imports many species of exotic wood. It is from that Amish business that we get all our exotic woods and their expansive knowledge of woodworking in general (and believe it or not, exotic woods in particular) has made me a better craftsman.
We do our best to promote and buy from local businesses like our own, and Hrothgar is a member of the local art guild and a board member of our local pop-culture convention, Ratha Con.
Hrothgar's Hoard has become a mainstay in several conventions in the Mid-West. We regularly attend Gen Con, Origins, Gary Con, Ratha Con, GameHole, and several other cons in the region. These conventions have allowed us to form relationships with artists and other craftsmen allowing collaboration in the industry. We are very thankful to all who support small businesses, artists and craftsmen.
Risks and challenges
I've lost count of the number of KS projects I've run or assisted with. Easily a dozen, probably several more. I've had my share of unforeseen emergencies, from equipment failure to waiting for parts. I'd like to think that I've learned quite a bit over the years and am highly confident in completing this project on time. Of the 12+ projects I've worked on, only a couple have been late and even those were not by more than a month or two.
I know my tools, I know how many I can make in a given amount of time and can schedule accordingly. If the project does particularly well, I will open new shipping wave categories so that I can make sure the cases get made and shipped in a reasonable time.
You can pledge assured that you are backing someone with a track record and who will get your reward out to you as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
