Update #14

One door closed, another two still open.

Comment

So after umpteen more delays, the original factory came back last week and said, "Gee, we're so sorry to have wasted all your time over the last year and a half, only to tell you that now we will not be able to make the short sample run that we agreed to and you already paid for. So, you can either bump up your order by 7x to meet the new MOQ (minimum order quantity) or we can just give you a partial refund of what you paid (a little less than 1/3). Just the figure costs, not the mold cost, since we already made that."

Not in those exact words, but that is the gist of it.

That pretty much kills any future dealings with that factory. The only thing left to do with them is to try and get our money and mold, which doesn't really look promising. I could get all pissy about it, but you know, shit happens. Another bump in this very long road.

So, with that avenue closed, we will continue to focus on the other two options we have been pursuing (both are still progressing, but slowly). And once we get one or both finalized and can make these figures via injection molding, we will give you an update. Those of you who I have promised freebie gold lions to, WHEN (not if) we get these going, you will still receive your lion.

As always, you can catch the latest updates to this venture here:

Until then, here is a pic of the 60mm scorpion figure we had printed when we did the 80mm lion (for the above mentioned factory) and 60mm Rhino. He is easily my favorite of the group so far. Hopefully we can see him in PVC sometime this year (knock on steel).

Update #13

Gold Lion update!

So, back in the beginning of May, we got some pictures of the sample of the Gold Lion figure. You may or may not have seen them. Needless to say, the sculpting was really close to the original 3D figure, but the head and arms were badly out of proportion. Had they been done right, you would be getting a mailing address request from me right about now. However they weren't. >-<

So, we ended up having the Lion printed at 80mm to send to them as a reference. It arrived today along with a couple others. The Rhino at 60mm and a totally new figure (not shown). They are going to a friend down south this weekend, who is going to make some silicon molds and repro them. We'll use those to make not only an articulated prototype for the Lion to send to the original (80mm) factory in China, but also articulated protos of the Rhino and his buddy to send to the current factory we are working with. And we will go from there.

At some point (once we get the final gold lion figures from China), if Kickstarter allows it for cancelled projects, I will send out a survey to get shipping addresses from all of you who are due a freebie gold lion. If I can't send the survey, I'll just post an update asking you to email me your info and ship that way.

I'll also be posting an update again, if the pricing with the new factory works out and we can bring you the figures at the same price as before. If it doesn't work out, we will just keep on working with the other options that we have going. There have been a few concerns voiced about not being able to get the same pricing on these figures when they do come out, and let me just say that I feel it is kind of pointless to come to market with these UNLESS we can give you that price point.

So yeah, just an update as to where we are at with the line, where the original factory is at with your gold lions and a general heads up.

I'll post another update here via Kickstarter when we are ready to ship out the gold lions and when the regular figures are ready. Until then, I'll be posting more ROTB info as it comes up over at my board:

BTW, I've attached pics of the original sample (ok, you can stop laughing now.) and some close ups and size comparison shots of the new 3d prints of the 80mm Lion and 60mm Rhino.

Thanks guys!!!

Update #12

Explanation...

Hi guys,

Here is what happened.

I found out this morning that the factory came back late last night and said they can only do the figures at the 80mm scale which is 1/3 larger than the 60mm they promised. According to them, 60mm is just too small for them to handle. There was simply not enough time to notify everyone and give them the option of cancelling their pledge. Had this news come a week ago, an update would have gone out letting people know and the Kickstarter would have lived or died based on the 80mm size change. So really, the only option was to cancel.

That being said. The gold lion has already been paid for and is being made at 80mm instead. It will be available for free to everyone who pledged at the $45 or higher level (as promised).

The upside of this whole situation is that there are a couple other avenues that will allow the figures to be made at 60mm and sooner. Just not at this manufacturer.

I just found out about this deal breaker early this morning, P! found out late last night. So rather than take your money and hope for the best, we cancelled. There really was no other option.I hope this provides some clarification for those of you who are rightfully upset and confused. For those of you who are still pissed after reading this, all I can say is I am sorry that we hit this bump, but cancelling the Kickstarter was absolutely the right thing to do, based on the last minute info from the factory.

I will gladly take egg on my face over this hiccup, when the alternative was letting the project fund and taking a gamble with your money.

I'm sorry guys, but there really was no other way.

Update #11

A new direction....

From Plastic Imagination:

A fantastic opportunity has presented itself that Plastic !magination simply could not refuse regarding the Rise of The Beasts line. This opportunity allows them to bring the line to market without asking the fans to make a pledge in advance and allows them far greater flexibility regarding the frequency of new characters being released. They are ecstatic about this opportunity and believe the fans will be as well.

From me:

The first figures will be here in June (the first of which will be the Golden Lion) and the rest soon after.

For those of you who have pledged at the $1100 or $1500 levels, you will still have the same opportunity down the road, after the initial product order is in and you have a chance to see the product in person.

Thank you all for your support for this Kickstarter! We will be updating you here and via the thread at LittleRubberGuys.com, thanks!

Update #10

This one is far from finished, but so incredibly awesome that I had to share....

He will likely be slated for Series 3 when he is complete.
