About

Swim, Body, Culture

This will be the follow up to Geoffrey Chuah's. His first book, titled Surface to Soul, was released in September 2014 as a self-published book (still available online at LuLu.com)

Surface to Soul centred around the female form in Australia's leading swimwear brands. His second book, which will be named Body, Swim, Culture, will be launched on a more global scale, among others by incorporating Australian as well as international swimwear brands. Moreover, the book will be shot overseas as well as in Australia. Unlike Surface to the Soul, which included ten stories, this book will feature eight different stories, yet it will contain more of the photographic material from the shoots.

The theme of the book will build on Surface to Soul, embracing the female form, yet the settings will move beyond the beach landscape and into more urban surroundings. The book will have two parts to it, which will be joined together by an essay, i.e. "The Female Form and Its Effects on Social Behaviour."

All the shoots will be connected to my online magazine LaMode, which will help to build an audience for the book. The readers of the magazine can follow the shoots and see how the book progresses. The editorials from LaMode will have 3-4 shots from each story and some behind the scenes material as well. The final edit will be different to the one in LaMode.

Locations

Most of the beach locations will be in Australia. Some of the beaches I have in mind are North Narrabeen, Jervis Bay (rated one of the top 10 beach's in the world) and Palm Beach.

Brands

As I will be shooting here in Australia and aboard. I am aiming to have not only Australian brands to work with but also overseas brands as well.

The Written Word

The book will have an introduction, foreword, essay and biography on the photographer, writer and the graphic designer, and a few words from Geoffrey himself.

The Reason For Creating "Swim Body Culture"

The drive behind wanting to create this book is the strong belief of self-expression. Being a photographer who gets commissioned to shoot for clients and working to their brief, I believe working on a personal project like "Swim Body Culture", gives me the room to breath life into my own creative project and allow the world to see my vision come to a physical existence......in this case a book. In an age in which digital enhancements are a common place, I want to explore the rawness and elegance of the female form in a place which I think captivates its beauty best, that is, the beach and some of the other amazing locations I will be shooting on that will make up the two sections of this book.

Thank you for reading over my Kick Starter campaign. If you have any questions or quires about the project please drop me a message and I will get back to you ASAP with the answer. And last but not least I would love it if you could pledge towards my project in some shape or form as it would mean the world to me and all the people who will be working on this book.

Risks and challenges

As most of the shoots will be on location, there may be a few set backs due to the weather conditions and people cancelling on me last minute. With fewer shoots this time, around eight, the chances of that happening are going to be very slim. Apart from the weather, which I unfortunately cannot control, there is minor chance of additions complications (all the shoots should be done before late October). After this, it is mere editing of the photographic material, writing and layout of the book.

In other words, once the graphic designer is briefed with the requirements of the layout, the post-production process should not take too long to finish. All going well, everyone will receive a copy of the new book by the end of January or early February.
