Goodr is an app that has the power to create real change for people who are food insecure and save businesses money, all by helping reduce food waste.
Most of us have seen perfectly good food thrown away at a restaurant, bakery, or dinner party and wished there was a way to get it to people in need. The Goodr food recovery process captures that food and transports it while it is still edible to help address the issue of food insecurity and save our environment by overall waste. According to a report by Rethink Food Waste Through Economics and Data (ReFED), $218 billion is spent growing, processing, transporting, and disposing of food that is never eaten in the United States alone. Every year in the U.S. 33 million tons of GOOD food is wasted, yet in America 1 out of 7 people are hungry. Each month food insecure families have to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities.
This is a problem. No one should have to decide if food is a necessity in their home. Goodr is the solution.
Goodr is a real time food rescue app using shared economy that allows, it’s users including but not limited to: Hotels, Restaurants, Schools and Event Planners to redirect surplus food to soup kitchens, shelters, nonprofits and churches with the use of an app that uses shared economy. The app has an algorithm that matches our donors to drivers and partner agencies in near by locations, this ensures our food is delivered in a timely manner and allows the donor to affect change to the community around them.
We also calculate reports informing the donor of their impact in pounds donated and meals provided for tax deductions. With all the resources that are out from food banks to pantries and the ongoing efforts we see in our grocery stores and on TV. The fact remains that food is still being wasted by mass tons and millions still suffer from Hunger.
Goodr has the potential to be the next big thing in social impact for food security and waste reduction.
At Goodr we believe that no family should ever have to decide if food is a necessity in their household. Too often people are making the critical decision between paying for bills and paying for food. Through our service not only do we seek to eliminate hunger and reduce food waste but we want to provide jobs and economic security for the underserved. To this end we are looking to employ people who have a vehicle regardless of the year of the vehicle as other shared ride services do. We believe this will widen the pool of applicants and allow us to hire those who otherwise may not be a fit for traditional companies.
What happens after Kickstarter?
With the money we raise, we have the ability to scale up operations at Goodr and quickly push out the app to donors including: schools, restaurants, hotels and event spaces. With your help, we can ensure big businesses like these who often waste millions of pounds of food, have an immediate option to redirect that food before it hits the trash can.
We hope to go live with the launch of Goodr around mid-July, and offer Goodr users 24/7 donation pick-up, because Hunger Never Sleeps and neither will we.
We will also go live with an updated website which features online scheduling of pick-ups for our donors and a reporting database that all users can use. Plus we plan to build exciting new features into the app that are already in development. This is a constantly evolving fight for hunger and waste!
App Production: We've found an amazing developer - Mobile App Heroes! Fees for app production and updates after launch are $36,000.
Rewards and Shipping: We have some amazing rewards to thank you for your pledges! We've factored in shipping and production costs of our rewards.
Kickstarters Fees: We've also factored in Kickstarter's 5% fee and 3-5% processing fee per pledge.
In total we need to raise $50,000 in addition to our Kickstarter, we're reaching out to local foundations for grant support, entering pitch competitions and applying for fellowships. Yet as you know, nothing is promised so we hope to get this campaign fully backed and go further. A huge component of Goodr's success is the creation of our first “Goodr Food Hub.” Our food hubs allow us to rescue food around the clock, the 24/7 hubs allow us to immediately store food in a cooler or deep freezer and repackage that food to be resourced to our partners in a timely manner. Plus it gets better, our hub will also serve as a 7 Day a week Food Kitchen where members of the Atlanta community will be able to receive a free meal if their families are experiencing hunger. While we will start in Atlanta, we plan to take this model across the country. All funds raised above this goal will put us one step closer to opening the doors to our first hub.
