About

  • Director’s statement:

For several years I have been a huge fan of Stephen King’s work. It was always his thrillers more so than his horror stories that peaked my interest.

Currently I am writing a feature film script which, similar to “Rest Stop”, tells a story about a split personality and his alter ego. This was the main reason why I wanted to obtain the filming rights to Stephen King’s short story “Rest Stop”.

A lot of eager persistence and a little bit of luck later I received the exciting news from Stephen King’s office: We are all set and ready to go!

Right away I knew that I wanted to unite artists from different backgrounds for this wonderful project. This conglomerate will help to give this film an international edge and to elevate it to higher spheres. The goal is to give artists from all over the world the unique chance to part of this amazing enterprise.

First I contacted screenwriter Tab Murphy and asked him if he would be interested in adapting Stephen King’s short story to screenplay.

Tab Murphy has received an Academy Award nomination and a Writer’s Guild Award nomination for his work on ‘Gorillas in the Mist’, starring Sigourney Weaver. He was also nominated for Annie Awards for his work on Disney’s ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’, ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Brother Bear’.

Subsequently I was able to bring music composer Gerrit Wunder on board.

Gerrit Wunder is an Austrian award-winning composer based in Los Angeles. He is the composer of over 40 films (features, documentaries and TV), commercials, trailers, studio logos and virtual reality projects.

Next British/German director of photography Kim Howland joined our team.

Kim Howland is an Academy Award winner (best short film) and won several other awards during his career among them the “Award of Excellence” for Best Cinematography at the Los Angeles Movie Awards.

I want to point out that this will be a short film & that as such it will not be realized for commercial purposes.

The  driving force behind this adventure is to unite different artists of  all ages and nationalities so we can work on this amazing &  challenging project together.

Principal photography is scheduled for October 2019.

We would love to welcome YOU as partner on this exciting adventure and we want to thank YOU for your trust and support!

TV-interview with director Alexander Bruckner about his upcoming project “Rest Stop” (working title).

  • Log-line:

Two friends are faced with a life or death crisis at a deserted rest stop in the middle of the night.  The decisions they make will change their relationship – and their lives – forever.

  • Synopsis:

THE PASSENGER – a short film by Alexander Bruckner

Based on a short story by Stephen King (‘Rest Stop’), The Passenger is a psychological thriller about two very different friends who make a fateful late-night stop at a rest area on a deserted stretch of desert highway, while in the middle of an argument.  An already tense situation threatens to explode when the two men overhear a woman being beaten in the adjoining restroom.  The decisions they make in that moment will change their relationship forever, sealing the fate of one, violently defining the other.  As the story rushes headlong to its shocking conclusion, we realize that nothing is as it seems…

Regarding ‘The Passenger’, Tab Murphy had this to say:

‘Alexander is a friend and when he approached me about adapting a Stephen King short story, I was thrilled. I have always been a Stephen King fan, not only of his books but of the many films adapted from his works. In tackling ‘Rest Stop’, I wanted to do justice not only to King’s short story, but give Alexander a script he could sink his teeth into as a director, while servicing my own sense of the macabre.’

Regarding ‘The Passenger’, Gerrit Wunder had this to say:

“Having Richard Bellis, the score composer of the original “IT” as my main mentor and being a lifelong fan of Stephen King, I am naturally very excited about everything involving his name.
