Mark Twain once said "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you found out why."
I am the youngest of 7 children. A New Jersey native with Jamaican roots. A Georgia resident. And a student at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Music has become so much more than what I do, It is who I am.
When I was 11 years old, I was forced to sing my first solo not knowing the impact that moment would have on my future. That one Christmas Sunday service in 2007 turned into a livelihood of leading Gods people in worship and I've loved every step of the journey.
At age 14, my home church was going through a corporate time of fasting and a man that once served on the Worship Arts team walked up to me and said "David" as he started his dialogue, "Have you ever thought about writing songs?" With a smirk on my face I said "No." The conversation ended with him challenging me by saying "If you pray for God to give you a song, believe that he'll give you the words you need to write it." Not only has God given me words to write and songs to sing, but He has also given me a passion and desire to see peoples lives changed through these lyrics. To see people encounter the presence of God and be impacted makes it all worthwhile.
There is nothing more important to me than worship. Because I encountered God in such a real way at a young age, the desire to be in His presence consumes me. He is faithful to His James 4:8 promise when He says "If you draw near to me, I will draw near to you" and I want to help people experience that. This is my purpose for pursuing this project.
I believe that worship is a response. It should be a response to not only what the Lord has done in the lives of those who love Him, but simply a response to the fact that He is worthy of everything we have to offer. When we sing our praises unto the Lord, we are reminded of the greatness He encompasses. Praise and worship makes our faith stronger which urges God to move on our behalf.
Music in its truest form was meant to glorify God and when we choose to "Sing a new song to the Lord" as Psalms 96:1 invites, our poured out affection for Him spills over and touches the hearts of our brothers and sisters. This is the beauty of music in corporate worship. Its brings us closer to God and to each other.
What It'll Take
Unfortunately, the things worth pursuing come with a price. Fortunately, we can pursue this together!
The cost of this EP in its entirety is as follows:
- Copyrighting - $175
- TuneCore Fees - $105
- Kickstarter Fees - $135
- CD Baby Production - $585
- Mixing & Mastering (Recording) - $1800
Total : $2,800.00
(Keep in mind the way Kickstarter works is you either raise it all or you get nothing.)
Ways You Can Help:
- Donations (every bit helps)
- Spread the word! (Social media)
I never thought that I would be pursuing a project like this and now that I am, I want to make sure that in every way the steps I take towards achieving this goal are honoring to the Lord. Besides your generous donation, I ask for continued prayer to remain on the path the Lord has put before me.
Risks and challenges
At the end of the day, if the funds are not raised, at least I will be able to say that I took a step out in faith and pursued my dreams. IF the risks are too great, I refuse to let my fears and uncertainty get in the way of me bringing my best gifts before God. I believe that this EP is much grater than my own ambitions and dreams because the Lord could easily use it to bring about anothers salvation. If the project is not meant to come to fruition right now, I'll keep trying until success is met. One step at a time.
