Leveling Up and Zords!
Hey Ranger Nation!
Today let’s talk about Zords! Zords are the Rangers iconic giant robot vehicles that they use when the forces of evil grow too powerful to face. In Heroes of the Grid, Zords serve as powerful upgrades the Rangers can unlock as they progress through their enemies in response to the escalating danger.
Each time an enemy foot soldier is defeated it is removed from that location tile and placed on a space of the Level Up track!
When the last space of the Level Up track is filled, the Rangers LEVEL UP! Moving the level tracker forward one space and allowing them to draw the top card of the Zord Deck.
In addition, each time the Rangers defeat a Monster opponent, they immediately Level up, leveling up by defeating a monster also does not clear the level up track.
Each Zord has a unique ability that the Rangers can now access, generally usable once per round. These cards provide additional abilities and action-efficiency to the Rangers, granting them things like bonus movement or additional energy in battle.
Not only that but the last card in the Zord deck is the Megazord card. After unlocking 5 Zords during a game, the Rangers next level up unlocks the final MEGAZORD card! The Dino-Megazord is an incredibly powerful weapon and will help the Rangers secure that final victory against their opponent. Unlike other Zords, the Megazord’s ability is always active, however it is also positional, and its ability only applies to the location it currently occupies.
The base game comes with a big Megazord token to represent the Megazord’s position, but you can also get the add-on for a MASSIVE Megazord figure! Let’s take a dive into the individual Zords and their powers:

The powerful Mastodon Dinozord is a useful Zord for keeping the enemy forces in-check. At the end of each round the Rangers can immediately defeat 2 Foot Soldiers figures in any location. Those figures are immediately sent to the Level Up tracker and it doesn’t even require a Ranger to be present in that location! Use the Mastodon to keep locations from becoming panicked or as a final sweeper to finish off the last few Foot Soldiers in a location after a battle!
This Zord has one of the most straightforward actions, using the agile Pterodactyl Dinozord Rangers can use a single action to move two Rangers around the battlefield. This is useful for getting Rangers to where they’re most needed, or for transporting Rangers quickly back to the Command Center so that they can recover from a particularly harsh battle. Movement is an incredibly valuable resource during the game and the Pterodactyl effectively grants the Rangers significantly increased efficiency during the game!
The Triceratops Dinozord grants the Rangers durability and staying power in a fight. It allows up to 2 Rangers to each recover 2 cards from their discard piles. Unlike the normal Recovery action this ability is not limited by a card’s shield values, but instead allows Rangers to return their strongest cards to their deck without having to spend an action recovering or returning to the Command Center!
The Sabertooth Tiger is another Dinozord that offers increased action-efficiency, allowing a Ranger to pounce into a zone and immediately initiate a battle for a single action! Normally, moving and battling are two separate actions, which, in an ordinary game is just about all of a Ranger’s actions in a given round. However, with the Sabertooth Tiger, a Ranger can leap into the fray and still be able to perform actions after the battle, either to recover, move to another location, or even battle again!
Jason’s Tyrannosaurus is a powerful Dinozord who focuses heavily on direct combat. Using the Tyrannosaurus’ Zord Action a Ranger can initiate a battle and gain 2 additional energy at the start of that fight. Double the normal amount of energy gained by starting a battle. This allows a Ranger to immediately open a fight with their most powerful combat cards.
The Dino-Megazord is an unstoppably powerful weapon in the Ranger’s arsenal and their final line of defense against Rita Repulsa’s most powerful creations. The Megazord is placed on the board as a special marker which dramatically increases the Rangers’ combat abilities in that location. The Megazord is the ultimate force multiplier in combat, giving the Rangers the final push they’ll need to defeat the enemy Master!
