About this project
The Infinity Seat is the first bicycle saddle designed to minimize contact pressure and redistribute body weight for increased performance and comfort. Join the Endless Ride at http://infinityseat.us/
• Incredibly comfortable
• 205 grams - significantly lighter than most seats on the market
• No break-in period
• Fits everyone
• Innovative design
We love cycling, but we have always had an uneasy relationship with bicycle seats – we need them, but they have always been uncomfortable and have diminished long riding performance.
We searched for patents that went as far back as the late 1800's and noticed that, barring a few creative departures, the bicycle seat has remained basically the same uncomfortable design. Something had to be done and we realized that we were literally sitting on a huge innovation.
The classic bicycle seat centers all of the rider’s weight onto the sit bones (Ischial Tuberosity) and pubic bones causing pinching and discomfort, decreasing performance and endurance. The Infinity Seat alleviates that contact with unique cutaways that distribute the rider’s weight into the pressure absorbing muscle masses of the buttocks. Simply put, you become your own shock absorber.
That means significantly more comfort, and thus more endurance and performance, whether you’re riding 1 mile or 120. And did we mention it looks cool.
Because the Infinity Seat is designed to accommodate the rider’s skeletal structure, it fits indiscriminate of muscle mass and body type - That means it fits everyone.
The seat began from clay body imprints, to carved wood concept pieces, to CAD design and 3-D printed models, through various materials and sizes.
Our cycling team took it to the road and field tested the designs, steering development, component by component, millimeter by millimeter finally evolving to the Infinity Seat.
After our road tester Shon Halasi (US men's national champion) tested the Infinity Seat, he did not want to give the seat back. We took that as a good sign.
With the prototype in hand we traveled to Cyclologic, an advanced bicycle testing lab, in Scottsdale, Arizona. After extensive testing against some of the top seats on the market, the Infinity Seat showed a significant decrease in friction temperature as well as multiple pressure parameters.
Simply put, we won!
The Infinity Seat has advanced and responsive padding over a base of a proprietary blend of nylon glass and is upholstered with specialty synthetics or stitched leather. The rails are made of light and sturdy carbon steel alloy that attaches to standard seat posts.
The Manufacturing Plan
We have decided to keep all of our initial manufacturing here is Southern California so that we can more tightly control specs and quality while supporting local businesses.
Our tooling company is crafting the injection molds now. The bases should be in production in the next couple of weeks – we'll keep you posted on that.
A rail specialist is building a jig for forming the rails.
Padding and upholstery specialists are lined up and waiting to pad and wrap the seats. We are sourcing additional leather textures and colors now – keep you posted on that too.
We will be set up to produce a special run of seats to be delivered in time for the holidays.
We think that the Infinity Seat can drastically change the biking experience everywhere – Road, Triathlon, Touring, Cruisers, Kids and even Spin.
Can a simple bicycle seat start a revolution? We think so.
Thanks again for your support, stay tuned for updates, and see you on the Endless Ride.
Risks and challenges
This project is already is under way. The patent is pending. We have already contributed over 75% of the funds to create the Infinity Seat, and we believe in the project so much that we invested our savings to make this a reality.
That means that the tooling is already being cut, the seat rails are ready to be cut and shaped, and the padding and cover material is sitting in the warehouse.
We have already done all of the beta testing. There is no more adjustments, add-ons, or tweaking to be done. The Infinity Seat is ready to roll off the line, and onto bikes around the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
First of all thanks to everyone for your awesome support. Within 24 hrs we were at 47% of our goal. I would like to address some of the questions asked.
Titanium Rails: When testing the seat, we had to take into account all riders and weather conditions around the world. For our first seat we wanted it to be comfortable, reliable, light weight and at a reasonable price point. Titanium Rails could possible be a stretch goal, or a change out, during warmer weather.
Padded Short or not: I personally ride in my Armor Wear. When coming out of the water I don't want to ride with a wet diaper. Our National Champ rider Shon Halasi rides with padded shorts. He just rode 90 miles 2 weekends ago with an bare base Infinity Seat( no seat padding). It was the first time he did not have any knee pain the next day as well.
Leather Products and Durability: These don't play nicely together after awhile they get hard and crack. With our Infinity Seat 4-Way Marine Stretch material this Recoil allows you to move, and flex with the seat, but not get stretched out or hard. It is durable in all types of weather as well as minerals, (such as salt).
Different Size Riders: We have a 13 years old girl, 5'1" and a 95 lbs. who just completed her first Sprint Triathlon. On the opposite side of the spectrum we have a 38 year old man 6'7" and 275 lbs. After not riding for years, he is back on his bike enjoying the beach. So if you fall somewhere in between these 2 people you will be fine.
Carbon Rails: These can be a challenge due do inflexibility:
Thanks again, everyone for your amazing support. We are working on the updates for this weekend.
Thanks to Adam, All seats will come with Rewards 1,2, and 3.
I only had the prototype in Red and the base in black. We are wrapping the next prototype in white and black. We will try to have that up next week in white thanks for your interest, and support
Just got back from the upholsterer he is getting samples of the white and black Material and doing his best to have them wrapped by this weekend. so we can post pics by the weekend. This is the great of keeping everything local. we can have immediate response thanks everyone. we are at 50% in 30 hrs :)
Hello everyone. Thanks for all your support and excitement to stop bike seat Pain. We tried to do a 2 for 1 pledge, but Kickstarters new policy change did not allow it. So, this is why we came up with the price for the first 250 seats. We're so excited with the response to the seat, that it funded in less than 54 hours. Congrats to all! Keep sharing with friends and family. Get ready for a happy and comfortable "Endless Ride"
The day the Kickstarter campaign ends we will send out a questionnaire asking you your preferences and getting your mailing information.
