A young couple considers parenthood in this surreal ghetto-melodrama.
Project Status: Now that Discord has been funded through Kickstarter, we'll be moving into a stage of mixed production and post production. All of the film we've been sitting on will now be transferred, and some new film will be bought, shot, processed and transferred. The spider sequences will be filmed, edited an plugged into our timeline. And then the whole thing will undergo a professional mastering process, visuals and audio. We're hoping to have a complete film by September. Thank you to all our backers, and if you visit this page when it is inactive, feel free to visit secretmanatee.com or email me, Ian Geronimo, at email@example.com if you'd like to contribute to the project.
Synopsis: The disappearance of a neighborhood child initiates a series of troubling events for Irvin and Marietta, a struggling couple who are trying to decide if they should have a child of their own. As pressure mounts, Irvin begins to notice some strange things around his hood, perhaps the strangest of all a spider that continues to visit his apartment.
About Kickstarter: Only projects that reach their pledge goal -- or successfully funded projects -- collect money; for those that don't meet their goal, the pledges are canceled. In our case, if we don't raise 8150 before our 28 day deadline runs up, we don't get nada.
The majority of Discord's post-production budget has been and will continue to be dictated by the fact that the movie was shot on film. At present, we have 1200 ft (or 40 minutes) of processed film just sitting, waiting to be transferred. We've transferred about 4000 ft, using Ian's paychecks, family contributions and Ian's student loans (the main source of funding). We anticipate needing another 2000 ft of film to finish the movie, which will then be processed and transferred. Below is as simplified a version of my budget as we could manage:
1. $400 for more film (through Fuji)
2. $430 for film processing (through AlphaCine)
3. $2600 for remaining film to be transferred to digital (through AlphaCine)
4. $1300 for professional sound design (through Digital One)
5. $440 for film scoring
6. $500 for color correction (through freelance video guru Justin Alpern)
7. $500 for distribution (Festival Entry Fees, DVD production)
8. $1150 for Kick Starter Rewards (Screen printing for posters, hoodies, mugs. Production costs for Reward films )
9. $830 for built-in Kick Starter fees (10 percent)
= $8150 for remaining Discord costs
Something to Consider: Several of the above costs (4 and 6) are significantly lower than would otherwise be the case if it weren't for the enthusiasm and graciousness of several key, west coast post production specialists.
A Word to Supporters: This film is basically a thesis project for a film school I didn't attend. I'll need every dollar of this campaign and more to get Discord seen. I want to thank you all in advance, whether or not I meet my funding goal, and remind you to come check for updates on the Discord Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/Discordthemovie or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
