About this project
After writing my first two juvenile fiction novels, I decided to return to a story that has been in the works for nearly fifteen years of my life: Underwing, a story of friends, enemies, and self-discovery.
What's the premise of this book?
Underwing is a fantasy story told from the perspective of a child snake: Jeiokha, a mysterious individual with skills and powers which he nor the other children of Vawku understand. As a snake, Jeiokha is both praised for his uniqueness in Vawku and warned that his existence will be lonesome--hence to be prepared for life-long rejection. Things take a turn for the worse when the sacred forest of Vawku learns that an unworldly beast is prowling in their midst, seeking the last of his bane to destroy. Jeiokha's world of rejection and ignorance becomes one of survival and sacrifice.
Why did I write this book?
Many aspects of the story are loosely based off my experiences as a child growing up with Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism, and how I experienced rejection from many of my peers, but also had the support of loyal friends and mentors who took me under their wing. The story's basic premise, though filled with suspense, fantasy, and action, can be applied to many children and young adolescents who are embarking on an adventure of self-discovery and self-empowerment.
Originally, I started writing Underwing at age ten to heal myself from bitter feelings of injustice toward snakes--as they were always portrayed as villains in the stories I heard. As I grew up, the story grew up with me and became something not only for myself, but something I hope will offer excitement and insight for many readers.
What rewards will there be for funding?
$5 or more: High quality Underwing bookmark.
$10 or more: Five Underwing Bookmarks
$25 or more: Five bookmarks and autographed copy of Underwing.
$45 of more: Five Bookmarks and two autographed copies of Underwing.
$65 or more: Five bookmarks and three autographed copies of Underwing.
What will the funds be used for?
As an author, I can tell a story, but Underwing is in need of professional editing and printing for the first run. Your donation to help in this regard is hugely appreciated, and to show my gratitude, I'm offering tokens of my appreciation from bookmarks to autographed copies of Underwing once it is published and printed.
What will any excess funds be used for?
Excess funds will be used to increase the first run's number of prints so copies of Underwing can be more readily available.
Your support is respected and appreciated graciously.
This is a story that is not only a tremendous part of my life and legacy, but will no doubt serve as a unique source of adventure, imagination, and inspiration to young readers and the young at heart.
