About this project

We researched the most effective, fun, and fast way to learn a language on your mobile device! We are 90% there and just need these final Kickstarter dollars to launch the world's most fun and easy way to learn foreign languages (including Spanish and Esperanto!).

Imagine flying on different planets, avoiding meteorite crashes, listening to Mozart and hitting words with your spaceship. And all that without making any effort to memorize anything! And imagine that at the end of your journey on Pluto you already know 1,000 foreign words!

CHECK OUT THE FREE DEMO!

Note: The demo version is working on most devices - Iphone 5+ and all Android versions, except some really old ones. If you happen to have an old device, shoot us a message - we still have something for you!

Special thanks to Chuck Smith, who just helped us add an Esperanto version!

Play the demo version and learn to read a text with 50 unique words in less than an hour in Bulgarian, English, Esperanto, French, German, Russian and Spanish! In the final version with 1,000 words the available languages will be Bulgarian, Esperanto, English, Spanish and few more, determined by you - as all backers have the right to vote!

A few decades ago, in a small European country called Bulgaria, a remarkable experiment was carried out. The participants, aged between twenty-two and sixty, were supposed to memorize 1,000 French words in a single learning session, using a newly created learning method - Suggestopedia. They attended the lesson and on the next day took a test to see how many words they have remembered. The results were astonishing...

The average score was 98.08%, or 980 successfully memorized words in just a few hours!

But what is actually Suggestopedia? A unique method for accelerated learning created by Georgi Lozanov, а professor in psychiatry. It is based on unintentional learning and the main technique in this approach is NOT to try to remember anything consciously while learning. Suggestopedia makes your brain store the new words directly in your subconscious memory. In this way, not only are you memorizing them effortlessly, but the formed memories are retained longer.

By contrast, when we study in the conventional way, we first store the information in our conscious short-term memory. After that we need a lot of repetition and practicing to transfer the information permanently to our subconscious long-term memory.

Suggestopedia applies some unusual learning techniques, such as using selected pieces of classical music which have been experimentally proven to enhance memory, infantilization by engaging students in role-plays, games and songs, and crazy-looking texts following a special model. Professor Lozanov claims that when people perceive the studying process as a game immersion, their brain memorizing capacity can increase between 3 to 5 times.

In a publication from 1978 UNESCO describes Suggestopedia as:

Inspired by this methodology, we created the game Space Polyglot which combines modern gamification with some aspects of Suggestopedia, such as using the selected pieces of classical music and fun illogical context.

We all know that grammar is pretty boring. But not with Space Polyglot! While playing the game you intuitively grasp the grammar basics in a natural way, just like babies do.

We have a special surprise for you - the card game Space Polyglot. The deck is made up of crazy creatures, such as a blue mouse, a pregnant alien and a drunk goat. Creatures, some of which were born in the app's crazy learning texts.

Each deck consists of 52 cards with 13 types of creatures (nouns) and 4 adjectives, describing each creature. But the card images are actually 51. How is that possible? Well, the card "invisible goat" is a blank card!

The decks are available in Spanish and English. So even if you are not keen on languages you can still enjoy the game. As the campaign progresses we may add decks with other languages. When making a pledge, please specify in which of the available languages you want your decks.

Now, the reward levels....

This page should be a nice guide for importing tariffs (but we can not guarantee that all the information on it is valid).

Our main goal is to raise 5,000 EUR (~ 5,500$) and complete the current version of the game with all planets. They will teach 1,000 words in five languages - Bulgarian, Esperanto, English, Spanish and one more, which you will determine by voting.

Stretch goals are on the way - stay tuned and prepare to vote for more languages!

Language courses are boring, time we spent on games just flies away. Our mission is to kill those two birds with one stone. To turn fun into something useful while turning the boring learning into pure entertainment.

I myself (Nikolay) am a passionate language learner. I speak five languages at various levels but have spent most of my life struggling with conventional learning.

It was only when I turned to alternative learning methods and listening to polyglots’ advise that I started progressing. Top polyglots claim that the fastest way to become fluent in any language is not to learn it, but to speak it.

OK, but how is it possible to start speaking a language without knowing a single word in it? What if you can learn in no time the top 1,000 words in a language just by playing a game on your phone? That's the idea behind Space Polyglot!

We want to help people who are not inclined to attend courses to start learning a language from scratch, build their vocabulary in a prompt manner just by having fun and be able to start speaking the language right away!

More games, covering other language aspects, are in our plans as well.

Our second mission is to spread the gamification of language learning in schools, as we believe that in our modern tech age our kids should learn in a modern and pleasant way.

Do you share our vision? Please back our project, and help us turn it into reality. Not your cup of tea, but still appreciating our efforts? Share this page, as some of your friends may be keen on it! Thank you!

We want you to be part of this project. For this reason we want all backers to have the right to vote which languages are to be added to the game.

Back and vote for a language!
Back and vote for a language!

Once the campaign is over, the voting process starts and will last for one month. During that time each backer can email us on contact@witnut.com, giving their vote. At the end of the month we will count all votes and will announce the results in a project update as well as on our Facebook page.

We've being working really hard on that project for over a year now. We squeezed all our financial and labor resources to create the free demo of Space Polyglot and our exclusive card deck. We highly acknowledge the help of the more than 100 volunteers and freelancers who have contributed to the project so far.

However, in order to complete the project we need more funds. They are necessary for:

  • Voice over: All the words and phrases in the game are pronounced by native speakers – we do not use text-to-speech technology because the importance of the natural, expressive pronunciation is really huge. This is also part of Suggestopedia's rules for efficient memorizing which we apply in the game. It does cost a lot of money, but is essential for the learning effectiveness and makes Space Polyglot different from other language learning apps.
  • Graphic design: in the demo version of the game some of the words are accompanied by images. As this greatly enhances learning we want to provide as many images as possible. More planets' landscapes need to be developed.
  • Translations: This task is extremely challenging, because all the texts have to be mutually translatable in all languages. For this reason it's not enough to translate them, but they have to be discussed word by word with native language experts.
  • Programming: there is still programming work to be done for the completion of the project.
  • Card printing: we need funds to print the exclusive card decks.

Now the future of Space Polyglot is in your hands!

We need your help to continue our journey in the world of gamified learning and bring the world a small game with huge impact.

Would you like to see Space Polyglot completed?

Please, back our project and get rewarded with our exclusive rewards! Share this page - your friends may be also interested in it!

Thank you!

Risks and challenges

So far we have faced hundreds of challenges, but our passion, positiveness, friend support and strong belief in our idea has helped us to overcome every single one of them.

These are the main future challenges and the strategy we envisage to cope with them.

Translation: It is extremely hard to create a text, even a sequence of words and phrases and translate it into multiple languages so that each language can be taught through any of the others. To cope with this challenge, we have discussed the beta version of the texts with native speakers of diverse languages (from Spanish through Turkish to Chinese). As a result, we have worked out a strategy for structuring the texts so that we can complete that process effortlessly.

Voice over records: the quality of pronunciation is crucial for the learning process. For that reason we have contacted a few professional voice over companies, estimated a budget for the different languages and based on the worst case scenario, have requested stretch goals that will ensure we can cope with the recordings.

Game testing, collecting feedback and optimizing: the toughest part of it of all. We feel obliged to keep working on every detail until we accomplish a very polished product. To overcome the challenge of game testing we need your help as well: you can become an internal tester by making the pledge "WITNUT VIP". We will also appreciate feedback from the demo on contact@witnut.com. Thank you!
