Mini Update: Meet The Team - Craig Gardiner

Hi guys! So today we'd like to introduce you to Craig Gardiner, head of the Animation team.

Could you introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Craig Gardiner and I am Lead Animator on Broken Sword – the Serpent’s Curse.

So what exactly does that entail?
As the lead animator I'm responsible for overseeing all the character animation, and making sure our animations fit within Charles's vision of the new game. I also make sure our animation team produce a consistent look to the animations, so that all the characters look like they belong together.

What do you do when you’re not animating?
I'm still as much of a gamer as I was when I was just a kid, although as I've got older it has become harder to find the time to spend on them :-) I'm also big movie fan, as my ever increasing DVD and Blu-ray collection will attest to.

Apparently you take Halloween very seriously, care to expand?
Yeah I haven't really grown up at all, still just a big kid at heart. Halloween is always a big deal with my friends and myself. One year, I remember, several of us dressed up as Tetris blocks which could all fit together. We find that it's as much fun building/making the costumes as it is wearing them for the actual night out :-)

When did you discover Broken Sword?
When Broken Sword was released I was still gaming on my trusty old Amiga, but I was lucky enough to get a chance to play it on a friend’s PC. I remember how impressed I was with the visual style and cinematic feel.

What is your fondest memory of Broken Sword?
A few years ago I'd had the opportunity to work with Charles on another project, which led to me playing Shadow of the Templars again. I'd forgotten how great it was and, along with the success of the iOS versions, it's certainly got me very excited about the new game. It's awesome to be working on a new Broken Sword game :-)

Anything else you'd like to tell the fans?
I'd like to thank all the fans for their amazing support. It's truly inspiring seeing how passionate you all are about this! I'm really hoping that we can meet that stretch goal too, as I'm really keen to start animating that goat!

Craig, how do you keep your hair so shiny?

Hi Craig, I think that you are a "brother of metal".

    3. Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on

love the updates and getting to know the team, keep it up!

I know not everyone agrees, but I love these team updates. When I got home today and saw that there were two updates for BS5, I picked "Meet Craig" over "New Rewards" to read first. Great to see you're on the team!

    5. Tim Smith on

Yeah, a metalhead on the team! \m/ It's nice that Rev have a nice mix of people with different backgrounds and tastes on the team! :D

    6. S.D. on

@Craig: I knew it!!! \m/ I understand your woes, regarding storage. It seems that the metal subculture values high-quality physical things that we can hold and interact with. I do download when I'm interested but not personally invested in the artist, often by suggestion of a friend or colleague, but in general the physical packaging has a special appeal! Of course, the band had better bring it, too...

Since how long do you work at Rev?

I prefer having a physical disc/box, but the convience of Digital Downloads is really good too, especially as Broadband speeds are constantly improving, not to mention the actual space that all the boxes take up, I think I help ikea in business with all the dvd storage units I've bought over the years :-)

      Hello Craig, great update! :)
Let me guess, you're a metal fan? :D What's your favourite band?

      You rock! :)

Just on the number of updates we're getting - personally I enjoy each and every update, so please don't stop. Bring on the goat :)

      Hehehe, thanks guys!
I have to admit though I have no musical talent at all, so the closest I've came to being in a Rock Band was playing the RockBand game, which although was a lot of fun, I didn't fair well on any level above easy!

    13. Rinu on

Thanks for "Meet The Team" updates. It's nice to get to know people behind this project :).

      @Bram Van Damme

i feel your hurt, Bram - the three clicks it takes to disable email updates really ruined my day. i may have to go lie down and recover.

It is perfectly normal to see updates getting more frequent as the project is getting near the end. ;) No need to whine about this. You can simply turn your notifications off through this page:

      Awesome update, keep them coming!
Also, question for you Craig; digital downloads or limited-edition digipaks?

    17. Bram Van Damme on

Guys, stop spamming these updates. No one wants daily updates for this. It's just too much.

    18. Filip OotG on

Craig all I can say is that we are all hoping to see that (in)famous goat! :D

    19. Gromber Fox on

heavy metal singer? xDDD you rules!!

    20. Nicholas Sylvain on

I was expecting Craig to say that his hobby is playing in a rock band, because that kinda fits with his picture :)

BASS sequel. It's the right thing to do.
