We are putting on a show!
Broken Doll Production is a youth-run theater production company from good ol' Brooklyn. We are made up mostly of young people (ages 14–20) from Bushwick and Bed Stuy (and a few other neighborhoods too). In joining Broken Doll Productions and putting up this show we will have the opportunity to learn skills we otherwise wouldn't learn, like how to build sets, design and sew costumes, balance a production budget, and perform a full-length play! We also want to foster a sense of social justice and action in ourselves and our communities. Through working with Broken Doll Productions, we hope to show other youth that success and community do not have to end merely because the school year ends. In order to make our dreams reality, we need your help. We need to raise money so we have a means of transportation (Metrocards for the subway) to get us to our rehearsal space, proper lunches to keep our minds and bodies going, and amazing production materials so we can produce a professional show. Every dollar of support goes directly to ensuring the burden of of these costs do not fall on the youth or their families.
We created Broken Doll Productions because we want to create something beautiful. We want to show other young people that through theater, they can gain confidence, find their "inner-selves," forge lasting bonds and friendships, create art in many forms, and be a part of something important. We also want to bring the beauty of art and theater to our communities. Residents in the neighborhoods where we grew up don't always have access to theater and other arts activities. We've decided that our neighborhoods are due for a change. Please help us create these positive changes in our lives and in the lives of those in our communities.
