In Project Airlock, the crew of a starship must work together to survive the hazardous journey back to their home planet. However, one member of the crew is secretly a saboteur, plotting to destroy the ship. The other crew members must do their best to keep the ship intact and force the saboteur out of the airlock, but if they choose the wrong person the consequences could be dire.
In this intense game for 3-6 players, the crew must fend off hazards ranging from hull breaches to wormholes, and at the same time try to identify an unknown saboteur. Meanwhile, the saboteur must deplete the ship's oxygen supply while pitting the crew's suspicions against one another.
You can view a complete version of the rules and download a print-and-play version of the game at our website.
In Project Airlock, players take turns secretly playing cards into the command pile, which are then randomly revealed to carry out their effects. Some of these effects are beneficial, while others can damage players and destroy the ship’s oxygen supply. However, several mechanics are at play to obscure the chain of command. Two people play cards each turn, giving both a chance at denying their involvement. A card is added from the deck, contributing an element of randomness. And one card is returned to the command pile unseen, allowing cards played several turns earlier to be revealed later on with no way of tracing them back to the saboteur.
Each member of the spaceship’s crew has a unique role on board the ship, which allows them to activate special character abilities. No two characters are the same, and each ability can benefit either the saboteur or the crew, depending on how it is used.
When the Airlock card is played, each player must vote on which player they believe is the saboteur. If they guess correctly, the saboteur is thrown out of the ship’s airlock and the crew is victorious. However, if the saboteur is deceptive enough he or she can convince the other players to kill a crew member instead.
Project Airlock includes a deck of 51 game cards, as well as six mission cards, six character cards, six oxygen cell cards, and six jumbo reference cards. We are also including one bonus character card to celebrate our Kickstarter: the Alligator.
The Resurgence expansion pack contains 18 new cards, including new characters and abilities, new missions, and powerful new additions to the deck such as Engine Failure and Nullify. It can simply be shuffled into the Project Airlock game deck to add more variety to the base game.
Project Airlock is fully playable (and replayable!) on its own, and we would actually recommend that you play with just the base set at first. However, the Resurgence expansion adds an even deeper level of strategy to the game so that you can continue to play it over and over again.
Here's what some of our playtesters have said about Project Airlock:
"It's a mind game that makes you question your friendships with everyone." - Raymundo Camacho
"As soon as you finish a round, everyone wants to play again." - Sophie Schaffer
"One of the few games that you can play every day, for hundreds of hours, without getting bored." - George Steelman
"It's a blast! ...I would absolutely recommend Airlock to my friends." - Nick Sherman
“You'll never have more fun accusing your friends of lying.” - Diego Alvarez
We're a small LLC made up of board game enthusiasts. Currently we are exclusively pursuing Project Airlock but if our campaign is successful we hope to develop more games in the future.
Risks and challenges
At this point, Project Airlock is in the final stages of development and we have a manufacturer lined up. The only other thing we need is the initial funding to make a print run feasible. We have extensively play-tested and are confident that you will enjoy the final product.
Admittedly, this is the first game we have produced, so there could be hiccups in the manufacturing and distribution processes. However, we are as eager as you to get Project Airlock released as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
