Hello everyone. My name is Justin Newberry, and I (along with artist Gilbert Cuevas) have been working on a graphic novel for the last several years between other projects and all the distractions life has to offer.
The book was originally planned as a six issue miniseries and would have come out around 2007/2008, but we suffered a number of setbacks and decided to just wait until we were in a position to publish the whole book. The interior art is finished and I've been paying a colorist out of pocket to bring the goal to a reasonable level. After the color work is done, all that will be left is to get the book printed and in people's hands...
And you can help! The way Kickstarter works is that you pledge money to the project instead of donating it and if we reach the funding goal by August 15th, they collect all the pledges and then fund the project. Kickstarter doesn't take any money upfront and only charges your account if the goal is reached by the due date. That way, if a project doesn't reach its target, you're not short your pledge money. It's that simple!
With the help of Kickstarter and your pledges, we will have the book printed in the late part of 2011 or early part of 2012. After we have sent out copies to the kind people who pledge to the project on here, we will take the book to several comic book conventions and try to get the books carried in stores through various distributors. No matter the outcome though, we will keep submitting projects to Kickstarter in order to put out more products and give people a chance to interact with us while grabbing our stuff in advance and at a reasonable price.
The bulk of the money raised on here will go towards paying for the initial print run of the book with anything over the initial goal going to the colorist to pay for their time (so the side goal is about $16,000). Anything beyond that will go towards printing more copies of the book and paying for booth space at conventions.
