About this project
The Dome Light 2.0 is an upgraded, brighter, energy efficient follow-up to the highly successful (and oft-Chinese replicated) 2013 model, offered in a wide variety of material and color options.
Like it's predecessor, each Dome Light 2.0 is made in the U.S.A. by a local artisan with more than 30 years of woodworking experience. Also, like it's predecessor, the lamp features the practical and aesthetically pleasing combination of a hard wood oak base, a glass dome, and a vintage-looking nylon cloth cord.
- Choice of Dimmable Vintage-Look LED Bulbs that burn brighter/cooler and are up to 10X more efficient than the original bulbs.
- Choice of high quality nickel (Silver), Brass, porcelain (white), or composite (white or black) socket
- Choice of cord color (Black, White, Red, Pink, Purple, Light Blue, Navy Blue, or Orange)
- Low-VOC base stain color options (Black, White, Gray, Teal, Walnut, or Natural)
- In-line switch is now included as a standard component!
- Dimmer Switches available as a $5 Upgrade.
Over the past two years, you've made dozens of requests through Kickstarter and our Website and we've listened! The new upgrades reflect a commitment to making the highest quality product on the market with a wide variety of options for individualization. We are particularly excited about the new color choice options.
In the past we had resisted making color options like this available for standard orders because we feared that they would retract from the sleekness and quality of the product. However, a few months ago we began experimenting with a new line of Low-VOC colored wood stains that changed that opinion. Unlike paint or other low quality stains, the wood stains we're now using go on incredibly smooth and provide the same elegance of the original in new glossy colors.
When combined with a vintage reproduction LED bulb, the result is a classic-modern lamp that does not get too hot for the touch. Unlike a traditional shaded lamp that quickly falls out of fashion and/or needs to be replaced with new furniture, the simplicity of The Dome Light 2.0 allows it to fit in almost anywhere. It makes a wonderful living room or bedroom light and meshes well with design styles ranging from classic/antique to ultra-modern.
Unlike similar knock-off lamps, which are often made overseas with substandard materials (1" plywood and veneer), The Dome Light 2.0 base is almost two inches thick and made from 100% Refurbished Oak Lumber that was reclaimed by hand from two local sources (both of which are more than 100 years old).
As a result of the vintage oak source, quantities will be limited.

Risks and challenges
With the Original Dome Light project, I actually finished shipping ahead of schedule! My follow-up project "People Lights" had a few-week delay because I sustained a minot injury. Because I use refurbished oak for the bases, I already have the lumber for the bases and all large equipment that will be used in fulfilling the pledge rewards. Accordingly, the only foreseeable risk is that a slight delay may occur due to an unforeseen personal illness/injury or delay in receiving packaging materials or electrical components. There is also an incredibly slight possibility that our reclaimed lumber may be damaged or made unusable by an unforeseeable occurrence (fire, storm, etc.). In that event, the rewards will still be fulfilled, but we may be required to use new FSC certified oak instead of repurposed wood if no suitable vintage replacement can be located.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes, within Kickstarter's "Bulk limit" backers may add additional lamps for $105 each
Yes, because each lamp is custom-made, we research and wire each light to local country voltage and plug standards.
In the future, yes. However, until all Kickstart pledges are fulfilled, this will be a Kickstarter exclusive. However, if your local shop or retailer may be interested in a bulk purchase later, please contact me via email at: email@example.com.
The feedback for our prototype suggested that some people really liked the dimmer. And, others didn't have any use for it. So, instead of including them standard and charging everyone $5 more, I decided to make it optional and sell the standard lamps for a little less.
