"For anyone who has lived, loved and laughed dealing with any form of addictions and isms I strongly suggest you back this smart film about life, love, loss, addiction and second chances! Dead Drunk is a poignant tale of loving an alcoholic and what it takes to get sober." - Franceasca Seiden.
Hi. I'm Dana. Thank you for checking out my Kickstarter project! I hope you enjoy it. I am the writer and director of Dead Drunk. I also play the role of Anna, Harry's fiance in the film. Dead Drunk is a dark comedy about alcoholism.
The story follows Harry Williams, a struggling novelist and alcoholic, who proposes to his girlfriend, Anna. After several embarrassing drunken escapades, Anna confronts Harry about his drinking problem and gives him an ultimatum: get sober or get out. This is Harry's journey to sobriety.
This film is not a public service announcement, I promise! I wrote the script as a comedy to find some humor in the very serious issue of alcoholism. I believe comedy is a powerful and effective way to shed light on important issues. I hope that Dead Drunk will be seen throughout the world and that it will raise interest and awareness in the subject. Who knows, maybe it will even help some people make necessary changes in their own lives. Or... maybe it will just make you laugh. It is a comedy after all.
I wrote Dead Drunk as a feature length film and my goal is to make the best possible film that I can. As I am sure you're aware, making a film is an enormous undertaking. It takes financiers, talent, time, endurance, passion, dedication, patience, skill, long hours, hard work, and a clear vision. It takes actors, agents, producers, attorneys, executives, camera crews, lighting, wardrobe, stylists, accountants, special effects, an entire production crew, editors, sound mixers, technical experts, assistants, locations, computer whizzes, software, hardware, memory, publicity, casting, marketing, and distribution. In short, making a film employs a company with experts in every department. Of course, even if you have all of these factors, the stars must align for a screenplay to turn into a film that people actually want to see. Sooo.... I really need your support! This is the minimum I need to make a low budget film. Yes, 1.5 million is still considered a low budget. Ideally, we raise lots more! But now I'm dreaming...
I decided to shoot a few very quick scenes so you can get an idea of the tone of the film. The above scenes were cast and shot for the kickstarter campaign. I was lucky to work with some very talented actors for this trailer. They brought the characters to life and I am very grateful to them. They also happen to be friends!
I have spent years of my life writing screenplays, working in production, studying acting, and learning from the best. Dead Drunk is a script I am really proud. Mostly because I think it serves a dual purpose: to entertain and enlighten. Those are always my favorite films. I believe the lessons I've learned and the time I've spent honing my craft have not gone to waste. They've led me to this moment in my life -- a time where I am ready and excited to get out from behind the computer and actually turn one of my scripts into a movie. I'm also excited to perform and to direct - these have been dreams of mine for as long as I can remember. I truly love all facets of the entertainment industry.
Like most people, I've gone through tough times and easy times and I've found the best way to handle most situations is to find the humor in life. It's everywhere. In people, in situations, in the most common daily occurrences. Humor heals people and it brings people together. It's similar to music in that way. It unites and it cures - even just for a short while. That is what inspired me to write a comedy about an alcoholic. Alcohol is the biggest drug problem in our country. So maybe we should try a little harder to understand it.
I believe this approach to the subject of alcoholism is unique and effective and I hope it inspires, entertains, and enlightens people around the world.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will support my film!
Risks and challenges
I have many years of screenwriting and production experience and am very aware of all the obstacles that may surface.
1. Attracting the right talent.
2. Getting my attorney to call me back. :)
3. Production delays such as weather and schedule conflicts
4. Technical issues such as sound and lighting.
5. Budgetary constraints. Making a film is expensive.
6. Legal issues - obtaining intellectual property rights for music and product images.
7. Editing obstacles - getting the right cut.
8.Marketing the film: publicity is critical.
9. Getting theatrical distribution.
10. Selling and distributing the film worldwide.
11. Hoping the product is good and well-received.
I have spent over fifteen years working for some of America's most talented writers, producers, and directors. I have worked in production on hit television shows such as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the NBC series, "Ed" and the CBS series, "Now and Again." I have also been an associate producer on an independent film where I was responsible for all the post production and marketing of the project.
I co-created and produced a television pilot for my company Main Sequence Entertainment. I was involved with every aspect of making the pilot from developing the script to casting, performing and editing.
I believe my background and experience, coupled with my vision and passion has prepared me for this exciting undertaking and will help me overcome any obstacles that stand in the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
