Two pairs of strangers must rely on each other as a dark entity stalks them on their search for humanity.
We are a group of post-graduates and undergrads looking to make a dent in a film industry that increasingly tells us it values budget over story.
This idea dates back to early 2012. It came from months of deliberation (existential panic) about what I would do with the skills I gained in the film program at Emerson College. I had been shown many doors but had no inclination about which to take. So, I wrote a movie. A movie about people who won't stop trying to get somewhere, even if they don't know where or what it is. Lucky for me, someone with some incredible producing chops found my script and decided to help me make it happen. In the end, looking at our haggard but smiling cast and crew after a sleepless 6 days of shooting, monsoon-like rains, wasp stings, and some really cramped, soggy car rides, the answer was clear - What else would we have done?
With the goal of the smallest possible budget in mind, we pulled out all the stops to acquire as many donations as possible - and we were met with more generosity than we could have imagined.
Friends and family came together to provide us with food, props, and additional transportation. And to top it off, the owners of our primary location in the wooded Groton, MA, complete strangers to us before this project, allowed us to shoot for free and opened their home to us when the weather went south - which was often. We were caught in torrential downpours exactly 3 out of 3 outdoor production days - check it out in the video above! The entirely volunteer crew and cast were soaked to the bone and being eaten alive by bugs, but we kept rolling. No one complained. No one fought. Everyone just kept making the movie. What we ended up with was a film that looks and sounds better than any of us ever imagined. And the film belongs to all of us. We're done shooting. The editing and scoring (also by volunteers) are being tackled at this moment.
My producer Amanda and I have been working all summer to pay for this film, but it's not enough. We still have to cover the costs of equipment, costumes, props, food, transportation, and once the film is complete, festival submission fees. Our goal will cover all of our production costs. But if we go over? We'll submit to more festivals!
So far, this small project has been made possible by the generosity of over thirty incredible people donating their time and labor. Be a part of it! We are film-makers, actors, computer musicians, finance majors, and neuroscience researchers. And we made a movie.
Thank you for checking out our campaign.
