Alex and I wanted to let you all know that we're moving forward with our plans to create a production company together.
It is largely because of LOOKING and the support/community we found through that project that we muscled up the courage to pursue our dreams in a big way. So thank you, once again...we'll never be able to repay you.
Our first project as a company was a music video for our a cappella group, Fermata Town. Luckily for all you Alex-fans, the song was arranged, choreographed, soloed, and directed by Alex Cantatore. (what a stud).
We are overjoyed to announce that "Looking" has been accepted into the Boston International 12th Annual Film Festival!
"Looking" was one of 100 films chosen out of over 2,600 entires into the "Indie Soul Shorts" category for Narrative Shorts. The Boston International Film Festival is the largest International Film Festival in Massachusetts and one the largest in the United States.
The festival will showcase movies at the Loews Theater/AMC Boston Common, 175 Tremont St. Boston between April 11-21st and "Looking" will premiere on Friday, April 18th at 8pm!
You can purchase tickets online at www.bifilmfestival.com, by calling or visiting the AMC/Loews Theater Box Office (1-888-262-4386), by calling or visiting BIFF directly at their office (101 Tremont Street. Suite 707, Boston 02108; 1-617-482-3900).
If you'd like to take part in the excitement of the whole festival, tickets are also available for the other films, the Opening Night Screening, and the Gala Party.
*If you're having trouble, click the "Set Location" button and enter the zip code "02116", then select AMC Loews Boston Common 19 as the theater. It should take you back to the page with the April 18, 8:00 PM showtime now available.
**Also, don't be alarmed! It looks like you're buying tickets to see a film called Damn Foreigners; that's because you are. This is the feature film that Looking was paired with for the festival session. The ticket gains you access to the entirety of Session 25, which includes both films.
LOOKING is done, and we're so proud of the completed project!
I, for one, am blown away by the talent and dedication this team has shown. From every challenge came an opportunity, and the network of support this film garnered is really a sight to see.
And once again, thank YOU so much for your help throughout this entire journey. From concept to completion you have been the backbone of this film, and Alex and I, as well as the whole LOOKING team, are forever grateful.
We finished just in time for Thanksgiving and were able to celebrate with a few friends and family members as well as send our first festival submission!
Alex and I are in the process of researching and submitting to as many festivals as we can so that this thing is seen! We're also getting your finalized gifts together, so keep your eyes out for more emails from me ;)
Let us know if you have any questions and we'll talk to you again very soon!
How have you been? It's been a little while since we checked in, and it recently came to my attention that some of you may not have received our last update regarding the progress and (more importantly) your gifts ;)
My deepest apologies to those who did not get that email/update! Please know you can call or email at any time should you have questions regarding our fundraiser and film.
With that in mind, we would like to thank every single person who offered feedback of any kind after our first screening earlier this year. Your perspective has helped us to take a new approach to the editing that has resulted in a product that is not only (we think) much more pointed and focused but also a true collaboration between us, the creators, and you, the backers.
In the past six months here's what we've done:
Recut: We restructured the story based on what you told us worked and what could have been clearer. Key elements were moved and altered to provide clarification and improve flow.
Audio: We redesigned the audio from the ground up. This included some more studio sound production (which was a lot of fun - check out pictures attached) and a reimagining of our whole soundscape on the conceptual level.
Score2.0: Our incredible composer Patrick Blaney has donated even more of his time and granular synthesis expertise to make sure the music in the new version of LOOKING keeps you on the edge of your seats...even if you have no idea what granular synthesis is. (Check out the screenshots here of the patch he helped design and the dizzying Max-MSP workflow he uses to make music out of noise, and vice versa.)
Alex, myself, and the rest of the team are very excited to finish this version of Looking and get your rewards to you and we're aiming to deliver in time for the holiday season!
We'll be in touch soon asking for some more specific information from you regarding where to send your gifts, but in the mean time, PLEASE let us know if you have any questions about the process, OR just send us a line letting us know how you're doing. We'd love to hear from you!
