Concept: Gladiators of Eden is a hybrid between turn-based RPG battle style play with casual land cultivation social play elements.
Best Aspect of this Game: The best aspect of Gladiators of Eden is the ability to take your prince to battle against your friends. This socially engaging turn-based battle lets you show off your customized character and gives you bragging rights.
Setting: Gladiators of Eden takes place in a far away world that resembles the lush landscapes of earths tropical rain forests and cliff laden coastlines. Vibrant colors and rough terrain are the main characteristics of this land. Hidden caves hold the secrets locked away by your ancestors generations ago. Decode the scrolls to unlock weapons, magic, and lands long lost to the sea.
Characters: The Prince is the main character and is the son of King Gavin The Great. His father gained fame, glory, and riches during his time as a Gladiator in Eden’s Tournament of Majesty. The royal guard, workers, blacksmiths, and sages all play important parts in supporting the Prince. The Prince's Ancestors each left him secrets of their power hidden in each land. Finally, the Prince will acquire a great friend and powerful weapon in his pet dragon. The dragon is a changling, able to transform into many different forms of intimidating monsters during battle.
BackStory: Eden and its neighboring planets are part of a far away universe called the Sea of Paragon. The years have passed since the rise and fall of many nations and all that is remembered is the history of the tournament. Every generation the youth of all the great nations are sent to long discarded planets outside of Eden. They must survive the elements, cultivate their land, and grow in strength, all in preparation for the tournament. All the while the prince must uncover the secrets of his ancestors that have been locked away in secret scrolls hidden in caves around the planet.
Players Goal: Earn Experience, Earn money, cultivate land, buy weapons, win battles. Gladiators of Eden gameplay is segregated into two distinct categories. The first is a land development build and cultivate game concept that is casual and similar to Dragonvale and Farmville. Essentially the player drags a world map around (Zooming in and out is allowed as well) to select tiled areas. The map will have heavy brush, trees, rocks, and rivers that impede construction of facilities. There will be several hidden caves where secret scrolls can be found. Scrolls must be interpreted to reveal the secrets of magical spells that can be used in combat. Engineering efforts will be conducted in the Lab which will open up new technologies that can be used to outfit the warrior. All of the land cultivation is to support kicking some butt!
The battle system is where all your hard work comes into play. Magic Learned, weapons and armor equipped, and strength gained through experience points all increase the opportunity to be successful. Everyone's experience will be different since attribute points earned for leveling up can be spent to grow in strength, intelligence, or in stamina. There is even a pet dragon that can be found. The play here is turned based battle between two human players. The play style is reminiscent of the original Final Fantasy. The players can be connected via the web (built in through gamecenter) or through local bluetooth connectivity. Matchmaking for random battles will balance the battles to make them fair but everyone comes away with experience points. Friends can always be engaged using push notifications that alert them that you want to play. Whether its a friend 500 miles away or a stranger a few seats over from you in the airport, you will be able to connect and play anytime you want.
Why We Need Your Money: Ah yes, why am I here to ask for your help. Each of us are working contract projects, full-time and part time jobs to pay our bills and squeezing in work on this project in our spare time. Your funds will allow us to put a grand total of 1000 hours of paid time to the programmer, artists, music, marketing, and the youtube video guy. This focused effort will greatly expedite the delivery of Gladiators of Eden. The money also covers a modest but effective marketing budget, and the rewards being offered. Finally, nearly 10% is right off the top for fees associated with the site and funds transfers. But without them I would have no access to great people like you. This is my shot at my dream at making a very cool video game. I have the skills, I now have access to tremendous talent, and all that is left is enough funding to kickstart the whole thing.
If we meet our funding level I will ensure this project is completed and the rewards are sent as quickly as possible. One way or another, I will get this project finished but without this funding I will not be able to pay the team members, who rely on these kinds of jobs to make rent, and it will likely push the completion out at least a year. Plus, with the team members I have enlisted, I will have a synergistic team whom are all excited about this project. Capturing this excitement and throwing ourselves into completing this project now will most definitely result in the best possible game for iPhone and iPad I could ever imagine putting out.
If for any reason you have a doubt about my commitment, need, or capabilities, please just shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I can always use advice and encouragement as well. Wish us luck.
Current Progress: I have developed the entire design document to include all of the weapons, lands, characters, and gameplay elements for the initial release. I have programmed the memory management, map management, and land cultivation code. I need to program the gamecenter capabilities, leveling code, pathfinding code for workers, include all of the weapons and scrolls locations, and then of course polish/beta test. The artwork and music are only in concept form right now. As you can tell from the links to Lucky Bug Studios and Matthew Pablo the game will look and sound really nice. This work can be accomplished in the 4 month period if we can dedicate the hours outlined above.
