Like many ideas before this one, our story began across a gaming table throwing dice, drinking scotch and pushing tin. As could be expected during this kind of event, tales of past epic battles, painting techniques, and new modeling projects filled the air. It was amid that heady braggadocio that a friendship was born and soon after that friendship birthed Cauldron Born Miniatures and here we are. Of course, a new company needs to have something special to offer and we were so pleased to be able to count on our friend Paul Muller to bring these unique ideas to life with dazzling skill and detail. The Powrie (among many others) are birthed from this collaboration.
If you are a fellow ‘metal-head’ then you know you can never have enough miniatures in your collection (kind of like dice for the RPG player). No matter what game you play or whether you just prefer to paint really cool figures, we are always looking for something new and exciting to add to the horde. This is our passion too!
We have partnered with some amazing sculptors like the incomparable Paul Muller, the exceptional Matt Gubser, the amazing Bobby Jackson, the incredible James van Shaik, the bad-ass Tim Prow and the unparalleled Olivier Bouchet as well as talented mold maker Jeff Rodman and painter extraordinaire Rob Wheeler of Pennyfew Painting to create exciting new models for you to paint up and enjoy; models that will rock your table or cabinet and make you proud to own them.
We have set up this Kickstarter to allow us to enter into the final phase of production as we have personally funded the entire rest of the process over the past several years. This means we have designed the miniatures, paid for any art, paid our sculpting partners, had them mastered and cast and waiting to go into final production. We took this route because we wanted you to be confident that when you supported us with your hard earned money, that you knew we were serious about getting you your products. We did this so that when you pledge to get your models you can be assured of a quick turn around knowing the most difficult part fraught with the most delays is already behind us. We did this because we are an unknown and believe we have to earn your trust. What better way to do that than to do that showing you our commitment.
Additionally we have sought the sage advice of fellow Kickstarter creators to insure that what we present is both a solid offering and one devoid of pitfalls and problems; advice that was invaluable.
So we gleefully present our first batch of savages loosely inspired by the legends of the Red Caps. These brutal warriors like to drench their beards and hair in the blood of their enemies.
You can order one, several or the whole warband for bringing maximum mayhem to your collection. All Powrie were sculpted by Paul Muller.
A few things to note about our ADD-ON figures: To purchase any ADD-ON figures all you need do is increase your pledge by the appropriate dollar amount. All prices are listed in US Dollars and shipping within the continental USA is just five ($5.00) dollars no matter how many you buy. We cast all of our miniatures in a lead-free metal alloy except where noted in the optional ADD-ON’s. Those exceptions are in resin.
Like our core offering the Powrie, all ADD-ON figures are provided unpainted and come with a slotted base (unless you opted to pledge for a painted model). The Powrie come with standard 28mm black slotted bases but the ADD-ON options come with a base appropriate to their sizes.
Most of the Powrie are single piece models (except for their Shaman, #7 on the chart). This means that there is no assembly required. Most of the ADD-ON models however are, by virtue of their size or complexity, multi-part models that will require some gluing.
Please note that this wonderful model comes with two alternate left and right hands so you can customize your model as you like. The Right hand options include: (a) a closed fist & (b) a bladed dagger while the Left hand options include: (a) an axe & (b) a hammer. Unlike the Powrie, this beastie is cast in multi-part resin so it won't break your bank or your shelf. Domestic US orders have shipping included in the price.
The Fiend is cast in metal and is a multi-part model so you can pose him as you like. Domestic US orders have shipping included in the price.
The Pit Fighter is a single piece model.
This mesmerizing beauty is cast in metal and is multi-piece (because...well...tentacles) and is perfect for any game or genre. H.P. Lovecraft fans enjoy!
This highly detailed and ferocious model is made in multiple parts and cast in resin.
This highly detailed and ferocious model is made in multiple parts and cast in white metal.
These are multi-part models and come with a standard slotted base, not the base you see here (though it is a very cool idea we encourage you to try).
The Tunnel Fighters are all single cast models that come with a black, slotted base. The bases in the picture above are just something our master painter whipped up cause we like that sort of thing. You can do that too if you wish.
The Ice Giant is a multi-part model cast in icy resin. It comes with extra hand options to customize your model. The Right hand has: (a) a shield or (b) an axe while the Left hand has: (a) a spear or (b) a club.
This versatile model comes with three (that's right, 3) heads so you can make him undead, an experiment or a fiend...as you like. The body is single cast in metal. Note the bowl is perfect size for one of the unused heads to fit into. Just a thought.
Domestic Orders to the USA will ship from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania via USPS flat rate priority boxes. Shipping has been included in your order and no additional charges are forthcoming.
For our International Orders we have partnered with an experienced UK miniatures company, Fenris Games, to handle our UK/EU fulfillment on this Kickstarter. Postage costs will be calculated on completion of your pledge, during the backer survey stage of the campaign, and will be dependent on final weight of your base reward and any add-ons you may have chosen. All parcels will be sent by tracked/signed-for services through Royal Mail - delivery times will vary according to country of final destination. These shipping costs will vary greatly depending on the weight/bulk of any add-ons you choose - we're confidently estimating (Brexit notwithstanding) that this will add between £7-30 per customer for tracked/signed for mail.
You can approximate your shipping costs for international orders using the chart below. This amount will be charged separately:
Up to 100g > EU: + £3 UK ROW: + £6 EU
Up to 250g > EU: + £5 UK ROW: + £7 EU
Up to 750g > EU: + £5 UK ROW: + £10 EU
Up to 1kg > EU: + £5 UK ROW: + £13 EU
Over 1kg > EU: + £10 UK ROW: + £20 EU
Costs include not just Royal Mail's actual postage charges but also enough to cover actual costs of packing materials.
Cauldron Born Miniatures is not liable for any customs or handling fees you may be charged by your country on import of your reward(s).
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter but not our first Rodeo. Thom has been an industry veteran for over two decades and Josh is an avid Kickstarter Supporter and passionate hobbyist. Together we are two passionate modelers and gamers who know what backers expect and how best to provide it. We have seen how successful Kickstarters are run and how they can be mishandled, and we have tried to plan for every snag we can foresee. That said all the real hard work is done. Models are sculpted, paid for and masters made. Production molds are all that is left to do (and in many cases these are also finished). So really the only risk to fulfillment is global catastrophe, but in that event we will have bigger problems to deal with.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
