Department of Spin is a social card game that brings out your creativity, persuasiveness, and spontaneity. In a fictional presidency more absurd than our own, ridiculous headlines threaten to embarrass the White House, and it's up to you to spin the issues and sell scandal as success to the public.
You won't just play cards—you'll argue your positions, tell stories, and invent facts to support your case. Most of all, you and your friends will laugh until your faces hurt.
The cards give you a platform to be as funny, serious, or convincing as you like, and it only gets political if you want it to. The game itself is non-partisan.
You don't need to be an extrovert or master improviser. Some of the most stunning and hilarious spins we've seen came from the quietest people at the table. You'll be amazed at what you and your friends will come up with.
Department of Spin supports 3 or more players. You can learn the game in 1 minute and play as few or many rounds as you like (a round is typically 3 minutes long). Here's an example:
All reward tiers include the benefits of lesser tiers, too!
From Us to You
One evening in early 2017, three friends with terrible handwriting came up with a card game. It looked like this:
Department of Spin was born. Fortunately, in the following months of development and playtesting, it became much better-looking (unlike its creators).
We're avid gamers. We believe that games have the ability to bring us together, inspiring shared creativity, achievement, and exploration. Department of Spin is one of those games, and we've come to Kickstarter in hopes of making our contribution to the gaming community that has done so much for us.
We've had a blast making and playing this game, and hundreds of players have joined in the fun during its development. We've heard amazingly creative spins and roof-rattling laughter, and we want you to join in that experience.
Department of Spin is a finished game, tested and proven to deliver hours of laughter and entertainment. We want to bring that experience into the world with high-quality, professionally printed cards.
We've come to you via Kickstarter because large-scale printing takes large-scale funds, and we spent all our money on board games, pizza, and disgustingly high Bay Area rents.
Your support enables us to make this game available to the masses, and you get to be right there with us at the start. We know that you'll love it, and we're excited to share it with you.
We're grateful to our Kickstarter backers, and there are a few other special people we owe so much to:
- Eric White, the master storyteller, director, videographer, and editor behind our video. Anyone who can make us even remotely acceptable on camera is a miracle worker.
- Purple Planet Music, for giving that video its gravitas. http://www.purple-planet.com
- Kevin Myers, for his illustrative talents. http://www.universek.com/
- Last, but certainly not least, the friends and family who have endured our obsession with this project and our absences from regular life for game demos, cons, and project meetings. Hopefully all the fun playing Department of Spin made up for it!
Risks and challenges
Department of Spin is a complete game, tested with friends and strangers alike at events ranging from local game nights to Gen Con. We've done our homework on printing and shipping to ensure that we can deliver you a quality game at a reasonable price.
To avoid complications and delays, we've kept rewards and stretch goals simple. There is always the possibility of unforeseeable circumstances, but our commitment to you is transparency and regular communication.
We've backed Kickstarter campaigns ourselves, so we know the value of the trust you place in us, and we're grateful for your support. We're excited for the opportunity to bring you a game that we love to play, and that we're sure you'll love, too.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
