About this project
We love ice cream...
We love our ice cream parlor. We love it so much that we want to be open all year with menu options that welcome Bostonians in from the cold North East winters to spend time and enjoy a healthy meal or snack.
We hear from a growing number of customers who are looking for healthy options. Last year, we added vegan ice cream from chef Wheeler del Torro. The response has been great - from vegan an non-vegans alike who appreciate health-conscious flavorful options. Mining chef del Torro's experience, we want to revamp and redesign the menu and cafe to truly welcome our community to enjoy healthy food.
Ice Cream + Soul = New Menu
Nourishing ingredients like sweet potatoes, peanuts, and mangos that are favorites in our ice cream will make a savory presence on our new soul food menu. Soul food - made with the same level of care and attention as our artisan ice cream - will feature dishes inspired by Africa countries from Senegal to Ethiopia, the Caribbean, and the South.
Changes Big and Small
With your help, we can update the menu and adapt the physical space in the cafe. Guests can bring their friends, spouses, kids (and dogs to the outdoor tables!) to enjoy dessert or have lunch, dinner or a healthy snack. We would also have more space to expand our community events like charity takeovers with organizations like Project Bread and City Year, cooking classes, and pop up events with guest chefs like Tim Maslow from Strip T's and Michael Serpa from Neptune Oyster.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks in changing a business, but I am confident that we can overcome them because of my passion and the support of my team.
The menu we are planning is new for Brighton. There is a risk that our customers will resist changes to their neighborhood ice cream parlor. I believe that we can bypass this potential challenge by communicating with our customers, investing them in this change, and showing them that the benefits of a nice, healthy cafe is all for them! Primarily, I would make sure customers know that their favorite ice cream is not going away - the changes to the cafe are all about adding value. I would communicate with customers in person in the store and through social media - showing them each stage of the progress (like I will with our Kickstarter supporters!) and keeping them up to date on changes. Through our in-store presence and social media, I will also communicate to customers about our Kickstarter project so they have a way to become stakeholders. I believe in our customers and the community in Brighton - many have already embraced vegan ice cream who never knew they would!
After the project is funded, we will be able to offer not only a healthy place to eat and relax, but also a space to invite the community to meet and learn.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We are currently booking beginning in March 2013 out to January 2014 to give you plenty of time to make plans to enjoy your reward!
Yes! When you pledge, you can select the reward that you would like, even if it is at a lower price point. For instance, you could select tickets to the chef battle with Biz Markie instead of a cooking class. If you pledge over $100 and would like the prize at that price point and to come party with us at the launch, we will do our best to accommodate you as space allows. Just send me a message!
If you are interested in VIP tickets to the event, they are available for any pledge over $250.
