What is Kevo?
Kevo, taken from the Greek word for vacuum, is a new evolution in the popular method of making parts and products through the use of vacuum forming. Its elegant design, operational simplicity and low cost makes it one of the most attractive tools for rapid creation in the exploding DIY, maker, inventor and hobbyist markets.
In the spirit of the new age of desktop product development, as complications and costs shrink and rapid prototyping grows, Kevo sets out to bring the long established but often overlooked process of vacuum forming to a burgeoning "make now, make fast" audience at any level of skill and need.
What is Vacuum Forming?
Vacuum forming is a simplified version of thermoforming, whereby a sheet of plastic is heated to a forming temperature, stretched onto an object, and forced against the object by a vacuum (suction of air), creating a mold or cavity once cooled. The vacuum forming process can be used to make a wide variety of products in a number of different mediums, such as plastic, rubber, wax and edible substances.
Vacuum forming is particularly useful for replicating items from one mold, such as smaller items needed in larger quantities or tied together. Unlike 3D printing a build for each object, creating numerous items from a vacuum formed mold is very efficient in time and material, and does not require extensive design or tool expertise.
