I made the BeerRambit bottle opener karambit for a few reasons; the main reason being fun! It's fun to spin and flip a karambit and perform tricks like you see in movies or YouTube videos... However it's difficult to do so in public or in a socially acceptable way without looking psychotic spinning a knife around. It's also a very fun and unique way to open bottle caps, a little more flashy if you will. So I made the BeerRambit which has a multitude of roles from utilitarian to defensive. In its raw form it is simple a bottle opener that you can spin around; but it's also a prybar, screw driver, box opener, impact device/ kubaton, and general fidget-item. For a defensive role you have a spiked ring to aid in light jabs, and also while held in the ice pick grip you have the prybar point hanging from your palm. This makes an incredibly good impact point for hammer fist strikes. While they may have impact "points" I make sure each one comes without sharp points, making it easier to just throw in a pocket without any worry of ripping your pants or scratching yourself. I have also included a slot in the ring area to be used as a dangler from your belt loop, or to aid in pocket carry.
These can also come WITHOUT the spiked ring, you can specify once the project goes live. You can also specify whether or not you want a keychain hole drilled in by the prybar to be used as a key dangler/karabiner.
Also; finally we have the copper version in hand!
Risks and challenges
There shouldn't be any challenges, these were a very easy item for me to make by hand. With a large order like this they will be sent to water jet cutting facilities with the CAD design and sent back to me with the general profile cut to shape. I then finish flats, chamfering, holes, pry bar, and stamping by hand and ship them off. It's a much easier process and should offer a quicker turnaround to the pledger.
After the campaign goes through and completes, I will put in the order for raw materials to be sent to water jet. After about 12 business days from the time I order they should be on their way back to me. Then I begin hand finishing all of the pieces to spec. I am very confident in my ability to get these done by the timeline, however as a custom knife maker by trade I am very adamant on giving updates to everyone throughout the build. It makes people more comfortable and it's what I would like if I was pledging.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
