Gypsy Donut Food Truck - Mobile Awesome
Gypsy Donut is taking our award-winning Kickstarter-launched donut store on the road, bringing Gypsy to your doorstep.
Two years ago Kickstarter helped Gypsy Donut & Espresso Bar bring artisan donuts & Stumptown coffee to our beloved village of Nyack, New York.
And now, Gypsy Donut is going to hit the road, with a food truck.
We love our shop in Nyack, and we love Kickstarter for helping us build it. It's cute, it's cozy and it's home. People who come into our shop fall in love with it and we've built a loyal following of regulars that we consider to be our family.
Now it's time for us to reach out and take Gypsy to the next level. We've looked at the options (move our store to a new location, open up in another town) and we've decided to go back to our roots.
When Gypsy was first conceived it was going to be a food truck—that was part of the pun of the name—but we found the space in Nyack that was to be our shop and we got to work building our home.
We've spent years packing as much awesomeness into the space as we possible can, and it's part of Gypsy's soul.
Living on the side street of a quaint river village certainly has its perks but visibility is not one of them. For the last two years we've worked hard to let people know where we are and to build a clientele.
What we need is to expand and to get new customers. And we think the food truck idea is the perfect way to do this.
We plan to bring the truck to farmer's markets, festivals, parties bike races and more. There's so many things we can do with a food truck.
Imagine having a Forth of July barbecue and the Gypsy truck pulls up and serves your guests luscious iced coffee and a maple bacon.
Kids parties and a donut truck are a natural fit. You can't make kids happier than handing them a donut. You'd be the best parent on the block instantly.
Or picture heading out on your bike with your teammates for a day of training up to Bear Mountain to tackle Perkins and just before the climb you pull over for a Stumptown coffee from the Gypsy truck. Who needs EPO?
We have a lot of plans for the truck and a lot of plans for Gypsy, but to make these plans come together, we need to expand.
When we hit our goal we'll get a truck and outfit it to be able to bring delicious Gypsy treats and Stumptown coffee right to your door.
You're probably reading this because you're a fan of Gypsy. You've come into our shop and gotten something delicious to eat or drink and have experienced our incredibly friendly staff and have felt welcome.
We've put a lot of work into Gypsy and it's been a long journey. If Gypsy has been a part of your life these last two years we need to ask you to jump onboard the truck (literally and figuratively) and help us move forward.
This is the part that sounds a bit like public radio—
If you want to support Gypsy, if you want to be continue to come to our store and have Gypsy here for you day after day, now is the time to kick in. Having a food truck is our destiny. We need to branch out beyond the confines of our village and meet new customers.
We'd like you to be our partners in this, to move Gypsy to the next level and make sure that the great coffee and donuts that you enjoy today are available to enjoy tomorrow—and enjoy no matter where you happen to be.

Risks and challenges
Getting the Gypsy food truck on the road will be a several-stage project. First we'll need to find a suitable truck at a reasonable price. To do this we'll attend local auctions and follow online surplus sales.
Next we'll need to outfit whatever vehicle we get for food service, removing any interior equipment and putting in racks for the donuts and brewing equipment, modifying the exterior to serve customers, etc.
Finally we'll need to get the health department to sign off on the project and then hit the road.
Our plan is to have a truck done soup to nuts in under three months, but the timing depends on securing the vehicle at a reasonable price. If you've got a lead to a commercial vehicle inventory, let us know!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
