The Adam Meckler Orchestra is reeling and ready to release our second full length album of original music! Our 2014 release "When the Clouds Look Like This" was listed by iTunes as one of the best jazz released of 2014 (also funded by Kickstarter!!). This time, we'll be featuring two tracks with hip hop artist collaborations including a track with Rhymesayers artist Toki Wright. We'll also be featuring international touring trumpet artist Rex Richardson on my arrangement of his tune "The Tao of Heavy D."
A few months ago, we lost our beloved bass trombonist Jenn Werner to cancer. One of the tracks on the new album, appropriately titled "Jennsong" will be our meditative tribute to Jenn. Additionally, a tribute to my mentor, the late great Fred Sturm, called "Fall Leaves and Apple Trees" will also be included on this release.
As stated in the video, a patron of the arts in the Twin Cities has stepped up and offered to match the first $3500 raised via Kickstarter. Killer! I've set the goal for $7000 so we can clear the monies needed to record such a gigantic band (18 musicians!!) -- Your contributions here on Kickstarter are not simply donations. At each level, you'll receive something ridiculously cool in return. New music, a T-shirt, signed/framed manuscript, lessons, a private concert, a song or composition commissioned by YOU....So many things! Here is where your money will go once this thing is funded:
1) Studio recording fees
2) Engineer Mixing and Mastering fees
3) Let's pay this great band for their time and talents, shall we??
4) Fees for filming and editing the video (each track will be released as a video, too!)
5) Photographer fees
6) Publicist fees (we want people to hear this thing!)
7) Album design
7.5) Cereal for my two-year-old and diapers for my newborn!!
MANY PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ABOUT VINYL:
I will print vinyl for this release if we can get to $15,000 -- I know that's a ridiculously high goal, but it's what will be necessary to facilitate such an expensive and time consuming venture (and of course, totally worth it!). It would be super rad to have my music printed on vinyl. I've been a vinyl collector since before it became cool again!
Please check out the options over there --> and help us make this thing a reality! Thank you for all the love and support, always!
Risks and challenges
Of course, recording an 18 piece big band will always come along with some significant challenges. Particularly regarding the timeline of the release. It is our intention to release this new album in the Fall of 2018 (which is when most of you will receive your packages in the mail), but it's certainly possible the release could be delayed, especially if there is a publicist who wants to wait until 2019 to promote the release. I'll be in touch every step of the way so you never have to wonder "whatever happened to that Adam Meckler guy?" -- Of course, those of you who contributed to our first Kickstarter know that you'll get what's coming to you!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
