Bold Street Coffee. A coffee shop and a necessity to the community. In January we were made to leave our home on 89 Bold Street. But after 6 months of no security we have finally got a way back in! The landlords have changed the site around, and a big fit out is required to reopen. It's going to cost £75,000 to get us back up and running. £45,000 of this is coming from ourselves. We are fundraising £30,000, and have put everything we have into this project, so we can get back into 89 and keep the pulse of BSC alive!
WHO WE ARE
In 2010 we opened Bold Street Coffee with the simple goal of being Liverpool's best speciality coffee shop. We had a small but incredibly dedicated team who helped put it all together, from all our design and brand artwork, to our menus and recipes, to playing records and painting the walls.
After 8 years of blood, sweat and tears, we feel we've reached far beyond what we initially intended, with endless wonderful times along the way. We've won awards and had countless outstanding reviews. We have had such an impact on our local community and have become a Liverpool institution.
Word has spread of our shop, service and products to many other cities around the world through social media, word of mouth, festivals and pop ups. We love what we do and we are so proud of what we've done so far.
We cannot thank enough the guests, staff, friends and family that have been such a huge part of the success of Bold Street Coffee. It's been an absolutely incredible experience for everybody that has worked here, and we adore the shop and everybody that has stepped foot inside – whether it be for breakfast, a quick coffee, or even just a chat with Mags! We want more than anything to keep the journey with our beloved BSC going.
A combination of our lease ending and some issues with the plumbing of the shop, meant the landlords asked us to vacate the premises urgently. We scrambled our ideas together and managed to open up two pop up locations in a short amount of time. However without the shop we have had 6 months loss of earnings and have regrettably had to wave goodbye to some of our longest serving members of staff.
We have been left feeling hugely battered - our guests, our staff and our spirits have felt the full blow of our sudden removal. However..
We can now move back in!
Although 2018 has been our toughest year so far, we are seeing this challenge through and are hoping to turn it into our best year ever.
The new site will require £75,000 of work. We are asking to raise £30,000 of that through your support so that we can set back up in our original home - number 89!
As the landlords have changed the interior layout of 89 Bold Street, it actually gives us an opportunity to work with a new layout spread over two floors, and it could/should/will mean we come back bigger and better than ever.
THE SILVER LINING
The money will be spent on renovating the new site:- upstairs, and downstairs, toilets and kitchen.
We will invest in a new kitchen that can keep up with the new larger space, meaning we can cater for a lot more guests. New toilets will be moved downstairs, and a disabled and baby changing toilet upstairs.
A communal events space in the newly developed downstairs will be for public and private tastings and meetings. We are also going to put a small BSC shop down there, where you can taste and talk coffee and brewing with an expert! If we go overfunded we have plans for a small bar concept.
We will need fridge space, an extractor, an oven, a dishwasher and storage. We will invest in new flooring for the premises, more seating and equipment for downstairs, and a lick of fresh white paint that gives 89 the Bold Street Coffee gallery space!
We want to keep everything we loved about the shop the same: the values, the service, the quality of the coffee and the food. We need our shop to have a small facelift - but still be the same beauty it always was!
The closing of the shop has somehow put into perspective even more, just how much we loved what we did, and how much we loved Bold Street. It's a street full of character, and we're proud to have played a role in making it the now-thriving hub of independent culture that it is, alongside our neighbours and traders.
We've made friends and we've celebrated marriages and births together. We've also lost and celebrated the lives of some of our dear friends. Bold Street Coffee has witnessed so much!
We loved serving the people of Liverpool and beyond at 89 Bold Street. We loved the atmosphere and the relationships that our shop created. It would be too much of a shame for us to give up now. We need help in our hour of need - and Liverpool needs its best coffee shop back!
Thank you in advance for your support!

Making the video with Rob has been a lot of hard graft! But filming all the testimonials was wonderful as we got nostalgic with so many regular guests, hope you enjoy this little added extra!
Risks and challenges
We are doing this Kickstarter campaign because for the last 8 years we had a popular and successful business. We are raising money to refurbish the new layout of the building, this will improve the capacity, functionality and add to the services we can offer. We feel that this project is relatively low risk. We are a well respected business, loved by a large and loyal following. We have shown that we know what our guests want and are able to deliver it.
We know all the costs and overheads involved in the business so can forecast and account effectively, as we had done for so long.
There will be a worry from some of our followers that we will change the shop too much: making it bigger and changing the layout there is a risk that it won’t have the same character of the original shop. We are going to be very careful with regards to this. The front part of the shop will remain the same so will be very familiar. Our design for the rest of the unit will retain the same aesthetics as the original but be more functional.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
