Risks and challenges
Yes, unfortunately running a business and producing flat bottles can come with various risks. There is always inherent risk when bringing new products to market. Production delays can occur, and we are first to admit that we have definitely experienced them before. This is our second Kickstarter campaign, and the experience we gained 3 years ago (and the journey since) has been invaluable for the planning of this campaign. We are now well versed in the production process, and have taken all steps to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
But we don't like over-promising something - so here's a few potential risk areas, and how we have mitigated them.
- Bottle production - quality. In our first campaign we hit a number of roadblocks - learning how to produce flat bottles with an offset neck, whilst maintaining good clarity and quality. There were months of back and forth with samples before we finally arrived at the final product. This time, we have done this grunt work in the lead up to this campaign, and have strong existing manufacturer relationships in place.
- Soft good production - Manufacturing soft goods also has it's challenges. Maintaining a consistent quality of leather, fitment and stitching requires serious expertise. We've teamed up with Melbourne fashion label Kinnon to ensure that quality of the leather sleeves is top notch.
- Shipping and logistics - setting up a logistics system to effectively and efficiently ship to backers all over the world is not easy - and is a hugely time consuming process. After shipping to 72 countries in our previous campaign, we now have an established logistics network of 9 warehouses around the worldLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
