Hirwill is a recently started micro watch brand, dedicated to deliver high quality watches with great attention to detail. Although located in the cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg, we take a large amount of inspiration from the nature surrounding the place where we grew up. A place with forests, lakes and mountains right in our own backyard.
The first Hirwill collection, Hirwill 01, is inspired by vintage weather measuring tools. These were made to understand nature phenomena, and were often intriguing in their shape and form.
Read about the Hirwill 01 collection in the press.
The components of our first collection is summarized below.
A uniquely designed 38 mm case with straight forward design, clear shapes and sharp edges. The material is 316 stainless steel, often referred to as surgical steel or marine grade steel due to it’s durable and corrosion resistant characteristics.
A convex screw-in caseback seals the back of watch. This is a robust solution.
The lugs are designed with distinct edges and angles to harmonize with the case.
The gold coated watch has a PVD gold plating which consists of gold and titanium nitride to ensure durability.
A three part construction with embossed logo in shape of the Hirwill bird.
Sapphire crystal or mineral glass? Sapphire crystal is one of the most scratch resistant materials there is, only beaten by diamond. The choice to use sapphire was easy. In fact this is where most larger watch brands in this price range choose to cut cost and go with mineral glass. The sapphire crystal has an anti reflective coating.
We are of very fond of mechanical movements, both handwound and automatic. To us, they can be pure art. Although for this collection we chose to use a well known quartz movement, the Miyota 2305. This gives a better price, much more precise time keeping and no need for extra maintenance. With the history of Japanese watch making in mind, we are certain we have made a good choice.
Black print on white enamel dial. The print is inspired by old measurement tools. A specific inspiration source is vintage barometers and opisometers. An opisometer is used to measure curved lines on maps and their dials are often full of characteristics.
The Hirwill 01 watch is delivered with a strap either of stainless steel mesh or of leather from Tärnsjö Garveri in Sweden. Tärnsjö Garveri is one of the few remaining tannery houses that still use the traditional method of organically vegetable tanning instead of the more cost effective chrome excel method. Instead of using harmful chemicals, the needed acidity is retrieved from tree bark. The leather ages over time, making a unique patina.

We like to keep it simple. The watches are delivered in a clean black hard paper box, uniquely designed to fit the Hirwill 01 watch. The box is filled with cut out foam to keep the watch in place and provide a safe travel home to you backers.
We wanted to create a watch that had a vintage look but with a modern feel. Our main inspirational source comes from barometers and opisometers, both used frequently by fishermen and other seafarers back in the day. We sought out to do something that we had not seen before, and wanted to create a watch with a unique case and dial design.
The design process started shortly after Hirwill was born in the summer of 2016. After having invested in CAD and illustration software, CAD drawings was to be used throughout the design phase. The design concept was presented and tested in different forums and focus groups for evaluation and further development.
The design of the case have been evaluated several times through 3D prints. The 3D printings enabled us to adjust and finalize the design before ordering our first prototypes.
By the end of 2016 we found our final supplier through some serious digging and research. We feel confident in the choice of our supplier, and have had a continuously contact with them from start. We have already invested in the tools to produce our first batch. Our first prototypes arrived in June 2017.
The GIF animation displays the final watch design and parts in various views from our CAD drawings.
We are working with a successful watch supplier with lots of experience with micro brand watches. The watches will be shipped from Sweden. We offer worldwide shipping. Please note that custom duties and taxes may be added upon delivery.
Warranty We offer a two (2) year international warranty from date of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing defects.
A watch is something everyone can relate to, and we are really glad to receive such great interest from people we meet when talking about this project. Let's answer some of the questions we usually get.
What is Hirwills place in the watch industry? And aren’t there enough watches available by now?
Well, we like to think ourselves as a micro beer brewery that’s located in the watch industry. We provide our brew to a limited group of people. Our goal is not to produce the next best seller watch. Instead we are driven by passion and joy, and as most micro breweries we are not afraid to be different and experiment with flavors and styles.
Tell me about your past working experiences?
Henrik: I’m an engineer and the last couple of years I’ve been working as a technical project leader in the heavy vehicle industry. First a couple of years with production and then with development. I think me and my sister Sandra makes a great mix of engineering and marketing skills.
Sandra: The past years I have been working as a marketing manager at a company in the industrial sector. I am a graduate of economics and before then I have studied art and design. I love that with Hirwill I get to work in a whole different industry, where one of the key elements is design.
What do you enjoy the most of this project?
Henrik: I think creativity and learning is the main reason I dove into this project. For me it was important that we did as much as possible ourselves. Everything from design, 3D, photography and even video. The last years, becoming a father and with many hobbies, I’ve found a heavy need to prioritize my time. Ironically I’ve chose to spend a huge amount of time on a time measurement tool.
Sandra: When Henrik asked me to join in on this project I said yes without a wink. I think it's a fun challenge to create our own brand from scratch and develop it into something we would want to wear our selves. I love the design process, not only for the product but for the brand as whole, taking it to a conceptual level.
What will you do with the funded money?
The money will be used for placing our first serial production batch. We’ve already invested in the tools. When the target is reached we will also start up a web shop. From there we plan to use the revenue to fund future collections.
Anything else you want to say to the backers?
We want to thank all backers for your trust in us and for spreading the word about Hirwill!
We owe our sincere gratitude to a couple people important to us. Our partners, Victoria and Johannes, your valuable input and work to this project is what will make Hirwill fly. Friends, family, and others who have helped us both with procuring prototypes, giving uplifting, motivating, innovative and sometimes cruel-but-oh-so-honest critique. We did even find a mentor to support us all the way from concept to watch delivery to our customers.
Wherever this campaign may take us, you've all helped us learn a lot, thank you!

Risks and challenges
Commonly mentioned risks in these kinds of projects are the ability to receive correct parts in the right time. We are working with a successful supplier with lots of experience with micro brand watches. That makes us feel confident. But as we all know, life is full of unplanned events. We will be present all along the process sharing updates. If there are any kind of delays we will inform our backers right away and do our very best to make sure the project runs smoothly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
