BBox 1: Learn Electronics - The Practical Way!
This kit contains 500 items to let you build various circuits along with instructions and detailed videos.

Based on backer feedback, we've decided to add the following stretch goals to BBox 1:
1. Transistor Siren Kit With PCB: £3,000 - UNLOCKED
We will include a kit that contains the PCB as well as additional components. You can solder the components in place to build a transistor siren.
2. New Project: Solar Energy Storage Kit: £5,500
We will add another kit that contains a PCB, components, a mini solar panel as well as a supercapacitor and you can use these to build a solar energy storage circuit. This circuit charges a supercapacitor with solar energy and activates a transistor when a certain voltage is reached. This kit can be used as an energy source to power various other projects like a solar-powered wind chime, mini robot/bug, or flashing LEDs to name a few.
The stretch goals above add approximately 50 more items to BBox 1, bringing the total to about 550 items.
The quickest way to learn electronics is by building and tweaking circuits. Starting out with the Arduino and Raspberry Pi is fine by itself, but if you don't know how components like resistors, capacitors, transistors work then you will most likely keep looking out for tutorials when you want to build something new.
Learning something new is always easier with the right foundation and that's what this level 1 kit (BBox 1) aims to do. It starts by teaching you about circuit fundamentals and gradually introduces new concepts while reinforcing the earlier ones. This way, you develop a good understanding of how everything works together.
The BBox 1 contains 500 items that range from resistors, capacitors, transistors, sensors, relays, buzzers - basically all the electronic components you need to get started. With learning material for 24 projects, there's plenty to build and it doesn't stop there. You can use the additional components present in the kit to build even more circuits!
The kit aims at being a guide to help you understand basic electronics so it starts out by teaching you about a simple circuit to light up an LED and it then goes on to teach you about transistors and the rest.
The reference booklet has the circuit schematics and breadboard layouts, while the online videos provide a more in-depth look at the circuit along with useful and relevant information.
One of the challenges with building circuits is figuring out the layout as there are many ways to build the same circuit. We've provided breadboard views for all the 24 projects to make it easier to get started building them. These are verified layouts that can be used to build the circuits.
The online videos also teach you how the circuit operates so that you can understand how to create practical circuits. Some of them also provide you with tweaks and suggestions so that you can experiment by changing or adding additional component values.
You will also get access to a dedicated support forum which means that you can share your progress, learn from others and also clarify any queries. This will go live on our website towards the end of the campaign.
The BBox 1 contains all the components you need to build circuits with the exception of batteries.
It's not easy to classify all the 500 different components but here's a simple breakup of the kit contents:
You will need 2x AA size batteries and 1x 9V (PP3 or 6LR61) battery to power the circuits. Including the batteries would have complicated the shipping process and it would increase the likelihood of delivery delays which is why we decide to leave them out. The 9V battery is only needed for the soil moisture circuit and rest of the circuits use the AA batteries. These batteries are extremely common and you should be able to source them at a local store.
This is just the beginning of venturing into electronics. The BBox 1 introduces the concepts of logic gates and you get to build 5 logic gates using transistors. This prepares you to enter the world of digital electronics and integrated circuits which is what level 2 is all about.
We're currently designing the level 2 kit and this is expected to go live soon after the level 1 campaign (this Kickstarter) ends. We build even more exciting circuits in the level 2 kit and it prepares us to enter the world of Arduino microcontrollers - which is level 3.
There's even more planned after that, so make sure you've got the basics covered to start building more exciting projects :)
