About

The BeatBringer is a unique combination of design, extreme audio performance and portability. It consists of a lightweight hardshell loaded with high end audio components. It is designed without compromise by a team of enthusiastic engineers.

We are super excited about our product, and invite the Kickstarter community to be the first to get their hands on a BeatBringer, and at the same time help us make it happen!

The BeatBringer padding is secured with neodynium magnets - the control panel is located behind it. The BeatBringer is easily switched on by turning the selector knob to Aux or Bluetooth input. The USB connector can be used to charge your phone.

Besides delivering tremendeous audio quality in a nice compact design, the BeatBringer has something more to offer. The combination of portability and volume level is what truly stands out.

The weight of the BeatBringer is 5.8 kg (12.8 lbs), which is easely carried as a result of the comfortable strap and back padding design. Since your hands are not carrying a heavy audio system, you can easely hold on to a cold beverage and a smart phone while choosing your next song. Furthermore the audio level of 110 dB is many times higher than other speakers with remotely the same portability level.

The BeatBringer really is the most fun you will ever have with an audio system - we guarantee it!

The BeatBringer is tested and/or featured by:

The London Midnight Runners have used prototype BeatBringers for special events and weekly runs since february. Here is their take on the product:

When it comes to testing the performance and durability of a product, nothing is better than real life testing.

London Midnight Runners visiting Barcelona - together with 3000 participants, and 3 BeatBringers! Key comments from the event:

"Those boxes sound amazing! Crisp, with base, loud, even when you have thousands of runners around you. They were the centre of the show! Love em!" - Daniel Varga

"We absolutely love the BeatBringers. They've become a key part of our running gear!" - James Holt

As a special reward for the Kickstarter community we have a limited number of custom grafitti painted BeatBringer's! They are all one of a kind. The backers for the grafitti edition BeatBringer's will be able to choose style.

The BeatBringer features 2 x 6″ neodynium woofers, which offers high power handling and sensitivity combined with very low weight. The woofers are high end units produced with lightweight frame and composite membrane (which makes the speakers water resistant). We have tested numerous of customized speakers and optimized their characteristics in order to get the most out of the BeatBringer. The test includes frequency response measurements, power measurements, user tests/feedback and more.

The cabinet is optimized using bass reflex ports to provide a strong low end frequency response. The high frequencies are handled by 2 x neodymium 25 mm dome tweeters, optimized for outdoor use. The power amplifier consist of a 2 x 75W + 2 x 25W continuous output class D amplifier. Combined with the high speaker sensitivity the BeatBringer can consistently output astonishing sound pressure levels above 110 dB (average SPL).

Our in house developed amplifier is the core of the electronic in the BeatBringer. It includes the class D amplifier, signal processing, power management, battery management and much more.

The BeatBringer is designed to be used in the most severe conditions. The speakers are water resistant and the hard shell is sealed in all joints.

There are non sealed openings in the enclousure (bass reflex ports). For this reason we recommend to use a rain cover when the conditions call for it (price: 300 kr or approx. 45 USD)

The BeatBringer is powered by a 22.2V 4400mAh Lithium Ion battery. We use only quality Samsung brand cells assembled with battery protection system. This ensures your safety and performance.

The BeatBringer can operate at normal/high volume (98 dB) for 15 hours. If you need more than this, consider a spare battery. The battery can be easily changed, and is kept safe in a separate compartment below an aluminum plate (located behind the padding).

The connectors are professional grade XLR connectors with locks. This provides stable connections that will never fail due to vibration or dirt.

The BeatBringer supports Bluetooth aptX streaming with 4:1 compression (Enhanced aptX). This ensures the simplicity of Bluetooth and perfect sound quality. If you do not wish to stream music via Bluetooth aptX, the BeatBringer also supports standard 3.5mm jack input (standard on phones, ipods etc.)

The wireless Bluetooth connection can be quickly connected using NFC smart paring (this requires a NFC enabled phone).

If you should be so lucky to have more than one BeatBringer, it is possible to play your music to a large number of BeatBringer's. Connect to the master via your normal Bluetooth connection and chain the rest of the BeatBringer's using cables from Line Out to Aux.

Wireless connection between BeatBringer's has been partly developed. However our wireless pairing system is on an early stage, and we feel that it will be too time consuming and might increase the price of the end product. Therefore it will not be an integrated part of the product for the first production of the BeatBringer's. We will introduce this feature in the future!

From earlier prototypes we knew that it would be a difficult task to make a lightweight design, which would perform extraordinary good. Many light speakers suffer from natural frequencies and forced vibration issues which will annoy the critical listener.

As a result the BeatBringer case was carefully designed using numerous iterations of finite elements based vibration analysis. In this process, the areas prone to vibrate was examined and minimized, thereby creating a lightweight construction without compromising the audio quality.

The hard shell is manufactured from thermoformed impact resistant ABS polymer combined with anodized aluminum hardware and stainless steel fasteners. The material is extremely tough and is in its final shape very durable.

We plan to produce the BeatBringer in several colors!

1.400.000 kr - (200.000 USD) Vote for one additional color option!

The idea came to life when we attended the Friday night skate in copenhagen. At this event several thousand people skate approx. 20 km through the streets of Copenhagen. Several people have brough DIY speaker bags and heavy audio systems in trolleys, with the common factor that they are either not loud enough, or so heavy and bulky that your freedom and thereby fun-factor is lowered significant.

Based on the ideas and a lot of research, we decided that we would build a speaker backpack with the objective to be louder and more portable than anything out there.

We were determined that a product with the portability of a small speaker, but the volume level of a PA system would be an eye-opener for a lot of active people.

Step 0: First prototype. We had a blast building and testing it, and used the experience to plan the design of the production units.

Step 1: Before initiating the time consuming process of tool making, we made a complete BeatBringer prototype using our FDM 3D printer. The 3D printed prototype consist of several pieces, carefully joined together. The design of our pcb and electronics was initiated, and prototype boards were produced.

The 3D prototype has survived more than 100 km of skate action, one bachelor party and much more - and has indeed confirmed the concept.

Step 2: This is the production ready version of the BeatBringer. In order to be able to produce and test small quantities, we designed an in-house thermoforming machine and made prototype tooling using a combination of 3D printed ABS molds and conventional proto tooling. The result was very good and similar to production quality.

Based on performance, production method and much more an impact resistant ABS polymer was chosen for the main structure of the hard shell. The polymer material has a nice satin gloss and texture, which makes it very resistant to scratches and produces a cool look.

We have produced 15 prototypes in order to test the design thoroughly. The prototypes have seen the abuse from skaters, runners and other happy people during the last 6 month. This have confirmed that the concept is robust and ready for production.

For production, some processes will be made on different equipment (for example industrial automated thermoforming instead of manual thermoforming on 3D printed tooling. However the basic production methods remains the same.

All of the team members are engineers, and we are experienced in outsourcing our designs, and are used to dealing with complex systems where a large number of sub suppliers are needed.

All parts and assemblies are professional designed and documented in 3D CAD which makes it simple to scale up because the design drawings can easely be shared with sub suppliers.

Our development of the BeatBringer is close to the end, which brings us to the point where we need the Kickstarter community.

Right: Claus - M.Sc. and PhD in mechanical engineering

Middle: Mikkel - M.Sc. in Software

Left: Jakob - M.Sc. in mechanical engineering

Between us we have +25 years professional experience within prototyping, machine building, production planning, software, electronics, industrial test systems...  Furthermore we have support from other engineers within our network.

The pledged amount will be foremost used to cover the cost required to order components (electronics, speakers etc.) in reasonable quantities - in order to provide a quality product at a good price.

Furthermore it will be used to outsource the thermoforming of the hard shell case, and a couple of small detail components.

The assembly of the BeatBringer will be kept in-house, in order to keep the quality control tight.

We have our sub suppliers lined up and ready to initiate production, with technical details, prices and delivery terms debated thoroughly.

Risks and challenges

The BeatBringer team members are all professionals within engineering, and make a living designing and producing products, software and industrial test equipment.
We have a lot of machinery in house and can therefore produce (and control) a large part of our production ourselves. The time involved in reaching our goals are a challenge, however we feel very confident that we can produce a quality product on time.
The biggest risk is issues with the supply chain of critical components, electronics etc. We know from experience that this is a very frustrating issue, because it can cause unforeseen delays. For this reason we have a realistic schedule including room for production and availability issues.
