About this project
We are making renewable energy fun for kids and DONATING OUR BOOKS TO SCHOOLS!
Hello, I am a children’s author and Andy is an illustrator. We want to reach out to show kids (and adults too!) that there are great, clean ways to help power our world. We have created ‘The Power Families’, a series of beautifully written and illustrated picture books set on renewable energy farms.
The catastrophic BP oil spill and the nuclear disaster in Japan show us the importance of making the change to clean energy sources. We believe that our books show kids the way!
There are three books in the series:
‘Flo & Mo Power and the Big Storm’ set on Flo & Mo’s wave farm in the USA
‘Max Power and the Bagpipes’ set on Max’s wind farm in Scotland
‘Ella Power and the Sun Puppies’ set on Ella’s sun farm in Australia.
We set out to create exciting characters and fun stories with a feast of rich illustrations, full of movement and adventure. We have achieved this in these three, 40-page books, each of which has taken a year to write and illustrate.
So far we’ve funded it from our own pockets and got everything ready go to print. We have done a small test print run of the books in the UK and got some great reviews:
‘A great, fun book with a strong environmental message,’ Zac Goldsmith, the Ecologist
'A brilliant, eco-powered, bedtime story.' Pascale Gravell, Families Magazines
Why we need your money:
We want to introduce these important books to a wider audience by doing a short print run and donating the books to schools. The books will be printed locally, in the USA, using sustainable printing processes and paper. We have found a great printer who will realize the series for us in hardcover with a Green Circle USA logo certification. The RRP of each hardcover book will be $17.99, but we will donate the books to schools to help show kids the wonders of sustainable energy!
What the money is for:
- 100% of the requested funding will be to print the books to donate to schools.
- Everything over 100% will contribute to the logistics of our school visits program.
We can’t wait to get started – but we can’t do this without your help!
