Thanks for backing by project, Somair, with your $1 pledge. I was thrilled that I met my goal and my book will be published as promised. I still believe in you and look forward to receiving my spice. The mail does reach Guam, USA!

    2. Brad Keen on February 19, 2013

      Isn't that ironic?

    3. Chris Lauer on February 15, 2013

Somair hasn't logged in since 11/21 and don't think he will again if you read the full bio in the link below. Talks about how KS is full of scammers etc...

Daniel, is all this fuss really over a three dollar pledge? If so, post your full name and mailing address. I will mail you three dollars in spices, if you promise to stop pursuing this issue in this public forum.

Here is advice for your benefit, from a disinterested party. I understand you want to receive value for money. Are you crossing the line between assertive customer, and cyber-stalker? You might investigate the laws in your state, so you don't put yourself in an awkward legal situation. I assume Somair and his attorney already know how to reach you.

      "Be respectful and considerate".

The to say I told ya so :(

    8. Chris Cohen on January 8, 2013

Nope, nada. And I don't expect to.

    9. Daniel on December 30, 2012

      Well, anyone hear anything?

    10. Anne on December 23, 2012

Just got back from a cruise, relaxed and happy. No spice, but got other KS stuff. Anyone here received their packages?

    11. Daniel on December 22, 2012

Anne? Have you heard from -anyone- yet who have gotten their spice?

    12. Anne on December 4, 2012

Could someone who has been active post when they've received their package? I didn't care for a refund, but still looking forward to all the other stuff.

in eastern cultures calling someone a thief is highly insulting, but it did not end there, they called his work and harassed his family.

Amazing job, Doubting Backers and Somair blowing easily understood reactions and questions completely out of proportion.

Ok...I've been out at sea (active duty navy) and apparently missed a lot. I'd just like an idea of when my package shipped to give me an idea of when I can expect it to arrive.

It saddens me that the project has to end on these terms.
i love cooking and really wanted this spice project to be a success.

the trust issue is a societal problem and not isolated to KS.
it really is a vicious cycle, of distrust, defamation, damage, and bitterness.

I understand your anger, but don't let a couple of trolls, corrupt your natural good self.
One way to best them is legally, the other is to succeed where they sabotage.

I have confidence you will clear your name.

Ahh! So I heard back :)))

As you get/receive the money back, please feel free to think of all your lawsuit filing imaginariums. I will be in NYC at KS HQ in LES of Manhattan on 12th December. Please feel free to come by and bring all your grievances.

As for the ones that filed for a credit fraud, we will be communicating via legal channels :)

So this entails that I am allowed to use publicly available databases and on my whim publish anyone's personal data on permanent, for-profit, all-eyes accessible platforms.. hmm..

Now, IF I RECEIVE AS MUCH AS A SINGLE SPAM, AS MUCH AS A SLIGHTEST DING ON MY CREDIT, OR EVEN AN INKLING OF ID FRAUD, I will not sleep until I have settled it with all my wrath and vengeance. And I am mentioning it here right now on same forum as a record so you may know!

1566 dollars.. yes they are being mailed back (minus the bankdraft fees, minus the Kickstarter/amazon fees) and all postage is to be paid by addressee.. (i am using simple USPS COD)..…

the spice and all other junk should be considered an xmas gift.. feel free to throw it away.. i dont care about this project, about kickstarter or the idea of 'creative philanthropy'. If KS does not kick me off, I will do this service of leaving this useless platform myself.

Fracking 300+ projects backed, open home address, open cell number, open blog with 100+ personal pics to make a blind person walk to my door, open linked-in, open facebook page on project and one has the audacity to call me a scammer, liar, report credit fraud, stab into my personal & professional life and think that still you are owed an apology. No sir! You will get your money back and then begins the chapter 2..

    19. Daniel on November 20, 2012

So Somair, I am sorry about your mother's condition. Whether I spent $3 or $3,000, the fact remains that you completely cut off all contact with your backers. The information I posted, was all available on any web search of your name, I was just consolidating it here. For that, I am sorry. A simple response would have calmed any responses, but that didn't happen. I am not saying that I'm Ghandi, or that I'm better than anyone else, I'm just saying that we could have used communication. I made this information that Google provided so we could have some way of contacting you, you who were completely willing to answer any question that had been asked before.

Somair (deleted) Creator on November 20, 2012

For a $3 backing (by Mr Daniel, with whom I had perhaps the highest correspondence), my personal info came out too cheap. This is the post below:

Daniel 1 day ago Backer info Flagged as spam… - this may be him. Does anyone know if his middle name is Muhammed?

      University of Mississippi Medical Center
      Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Neuroscience
      2009 – 2013 (expected)
(bottom picture) (the email address could possibly be

If anyone can add to the list, that would be fine.

Now I will be adding to this list the personal damages that unfold to my life, because giving out my address, my phone number, and perhaps every sort of communication method was not enough. I think I should add my SSN here also. I hope KS, and Mr Daniel knows the gravity of this action.

I am an MD, MS and almost a PhD. I did not need the money to pay my bills. I do medical work for charity and please come to Jackson any saturday and get a free medical checkup at Jackson Free Clinic. I am not a thief, not dumb, not a retard and really really hurt by these actions.

Just because of what has been done, I have no intention to justify myself. $1,566 for a $350 goal was raised and I have already spent way over that limit but I do not care about that. This was a means to share something with you and not a Walmart brand spice re-bottled into something.

This project definitely entails a lawsuit, and for what its worth, it has to be seen; by whom, on what grounds and what legal and personal boundaries have been crossed. I recommend all of you who took some actions on your own to read the KS guidelines and terms & conditions. Also keep in mind the dates when KS changed some of their T&Cs and when this project raised its funding goal and Amazon payments issued the funding. Please do read the Amazon Payments T&Cs and see what legal boundaries have been crossed by your actions.

It is very easy to checkmark 'I agree' and give $3 to feel like Gandhi but it helps to read the fine print of what you agreed to. This said, by the analogy of some you's drastic actions, I need an answer from precise 132 projects out of the 313 I backed that NEVER delivered, had fake or non-associated Facebook profiles, and did not have any dedicated websites.

I am saddened, hurt and have been left bitter because willingly or unwillingly, some of you DID cross legal boundaries that have done irreparable damage. This world does not deserve charity, free access to organic foods, free/fair access to healthcare and definitely does not deserve $3 worth of hypocrisy.

As much as majority of you have been amazing, I have enough self-respect that I do not feel like keeping this money. I will return it and please feel free to back another good project. I had this spice before kickstarter and I will have it after kickstarter. But it won't take the bitterness away.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

PS: And please please read the fine print and T&Cs before you take actions that put your foot in the legal trap door. Starting now, KS has to refund me for the 132 projects that did not deliver and if KS cannot do anything about it (which they cannot, thanks to the fine print), I expect KS to see through in rigorous detail that any and all actions by you were whether justified or blatantly illegal. Not cliche but there is a quote in Punjabi language that loosely translates to 'After the flood, colors may remain but the crop is gone'. Thank you for all your support during the project.

Somair! This makes me very sad! I am sorry you are going through this! I wondered what was going on but I certainly did not think you were scamming anyone! I've been waiting for a project since 2011!
I hope all will be well with you! Please, don't refund my money!

      Dear people..

Some of you have received the packages and some of you have not. I have a parent in hospital and for lack of a better word, I am really really saddened by some of you who have really gone below the belt. I am returning all of you's money and yes! you all will receive the spices and those that have received it.. keep it!

It saddens me more that you placed my personal information out in the open as if I am a thief. I PUT OUT MY ADDRESS AND MY COUCHSURFING PROFILE so all of you could visit me. But NO! you had to go this far. I have backed 313 projects for more than $7000 and the way some of you have worded your communications to me, to my peers and to my family, I am disgusted.

At the time when videogame projects on Kickstarter have turned out to be massive scams and an exercise in sham advertisement, the level of effort I put in this project for the outcome has really woken me up to the reality of 'so-called' creative platform philanthropy where your $20 makes you better human than I am. I am returning all of your money.

And once my family has passed through this time, I am going to make sure that all the personal damages done to my character and my identity be thoroughly answered as some of them have damaged my life beyond repair.

Thank you all for your support and have a blessed life!

You will all get your money and the spice and the t-shirts and all the other stuff :)

Can you give us some more detail about filing a claim? Did you call your credit card company? What did you tell them?

    24. Anne on November 20, 2012

I don't think it's the more time issue... I have several projects that are going to take months longer - it's the fact that there aren't any updates. I think people on KS are very understanding about things just... not going right and sometimes things promised in October won't get there until early March. That being said, when the project starter disappears, facebook pages get taken down and there is no notice (especially when he had previously been prolific) that's an issue.

He was always really responsive to me and had quick replies. Perhaps there was a serious problem and now he can't fulfill the orders. Perhaps he ran into money troubles and had to sell off this stuff. But, it's all speculation - until there is an update no one knows. Maybe he is too ashamed about what happened and doesn't want to tell all of us, especially as many of us were very involved - Somair's enthusiasm was infectious.

All this is going to take time either way. KS will have a better way of contacting him and trying to sort things out than we do here, and that's something they should do. I do hope that nothing has happened to him and that everything is alright, but until then I believe that the backers should be involved and should look out for their interests and get this settled.

Yes he did. And I'm 90% done with a scarf I've been working on for a year... Like I said life gets in the way. I do not personally know nor can i vouch for Somair but I would rather err on the side of caution and not vilify. Perhaps it is just me, but I personally feel it's reasonable to give the project more time before calling in the troops.

    26. Daniel on November 19, 2012

Well, I understand that, Emily, but he said 85 % was completed a month ago.

Perhaps the reactions are a touch rushed? It hasn't been months and months of waiting. Sometimes life gets busy in very unexpected ways. Who's to say there has not been an illness or an accident that is taking full concentration? Granted I am frustrated and annoyed as well regarding lack of communication but tend to air on the side of human tendencies vs. criminal acts or swindle. I have waited MUCH longer for other projects and everything has turned out fine. Has no one else ever over estimated achievements and under estimated time? I certainly have.

    28. Megan Nolan on November 19, 2012

I've actually gone through this before. Kickstarter does nothing to help facilitate the process. What happened in the previous project was that multiple backers filed a claim with their credit company, myself included. I received my money back, and the credit company went after the funds from the project starter.

I only put forth 5 dollars to this project, so it isn't worth the ten minute phone call to my bank to try and recoup, but if somebody wanted to start a small claims suit, that would be great. Almost 100 people were duped.

Honestly, having this happen to me twice does not help my trust in this process.

    29. Daniel on November 18, 2012

A small claims suit would be inexpensive divided by x # of people, especially if we represented ourselves (not as difficult as it seems).

    30. Brad Keen on November 18, 2012

Assuming that Somair isn't going to send out the spice, and it's still possible that he will, Kickstarter will not refund the money. They don't have it. Somair is legally obligated to get us the product, but it's on us to somehow make that happen. And, I'm guessing that nobody is going to start that process. But, I could be wrong, this is only what I have heard.

    31. Anne on November 17, 2012

As a note, has anyone ever been through this? How does something like this get resolved by KS as I can't imagine that they can easily get their money back meaning ... do we get our money back or...? Thanks!

    32. Anne on November 17, 2012

Thanks, I did a report as well.

    33. Brad Keen on November 16, 2012

I've reported the project. I just chose a random category and explained in the message.

    34. Daniel on November 15, 2012

kickstarter told me to use the 'report project' link at the bottom of the main project page. They did not, however, say which option to use after that, because none seem to fit.

    35. Anne on November 15, 2012

Do we contact KS and tell them this looks like a no-go?

    36. Lisa G. on November 15, 2012

There were so many updates during the funding and now nothing. I wonder what is going on.

    37. Brad Keen on November 14, 2012

It seems that Somair took down his Facebook page. Has anyone heard from him?

    38. Anne on November 7, 2012

I haven't heard anything either. Haven't checked out his blog or anything, but I saw he made another KS and had an update the same time that this one was updated...

    39. Daniel on November 5, 2012

Not to mention 85% being completed over two weeks ago.

"Pictures, pictures.. n lotsa spicy sneezing tonight! I think (almost) all packages are taken care of. Well, about 85%!"

    40. Brad Keen on November 5, 2012

I have also left a message. It probably sounds like I'm impatient. Somair, we understand if there are delays....but good and honest communication is essential. I haven't heard from a single backer that they have received their spice yet, even though you said you sent out 1/3 of the spice almost a month ago.

    41. Daniel on November 4, 2012

I've messaged him on facebook, and on his blog. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

    42. Frederick D Beshara on November 3, 2012

Haven't gotten mine yet. Any updates Somair?

    43. Chris Lauer on November 1, 2012

Not yet but, I would imagine we will soon! Any updates Somair?!

    44. Daniel on October 31, 2012

Or here. Has anyone gotten their reward level?

    45. Anne on October 26, 2012

I wonder what the status is on the packages going out? No spicy wonderfulness yet here!

    46. Daniel on October 20, 2012

Good to hear, I can't wait to try it!
