Hello Dear Friends!
We are San Francisco Bay Area duo Genna & Jesse, and if you are reading this, you probably know us at least peripherally, if not very well. If you haven't already gotten wind of it, we're here to tell you that we're thrilled to be finishing our debut full-length album "Give and Take," and readying it for your ears. We are set to release the record in early August, and the release will mark the beginning of a four month romp around the US and Canada to promote it!
The Album: "Give and Take"
The album is an intimate peek into our lives-- two musicians in love who are doing the hard work to support our career and celebrate life's joys and sorrows together. If you've heard our EP recordings or seen us live, you have an idea about who we are personally and musically. If not, we invite you to check out our stuff at www.gennaandjesse.com. We believe that if you love what we do, you will appreciate the record we are making-- All of the recording has been done thus far in our home studio, where we will continue to work to add the finishing touches and fairy dust. Much of the material is brand-new and written together, and we'll have some favorites in the mix as well. We're really proud of this accomplishment, and consider it some of our finest work. We think you'll agree!
Our first fundraising goal is to complete the record, which includes mixing, mastering, artwork, and manufacturing/pressing. We're clever, frugal people with wonderful friends, so we're going to do this on a budget that will amaze you! We're planning on finishing up the record for $1500. It will sound and look like a million bucks!
In order to promote the record, we have begun booking a three month tour that will take us across the country and Canada (California, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Ontario, Michigan, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Phew!) and into clubs, bars, cafes, wineries, restaurants and our favorite-- into people's living rooms! Hopefully, you will be able to catch one or more of our shows. If you can't, you'll be kept abreast via our website, where we'll blog about our experiences and post photos and videos.
We're determined to have the most successful tour possible, and we intend to earn some money on the road. While many artists are finding it difficult make a living this way, we are embarking on this project because it is the best way to promote what we do, to support album sales, and to share our music with as many people as possible. Overall, it supports our biggest goal-- to help to transform the career musician's reality by doing tons of house concerts, thus promoting and supporting a paradigm that puts the joy back into touring (and experiencing music, from the listener's perspective) and money in the artist's pockets. By forming relationships across the country and Canada, we will be developing and nurturing a circuit that will set the stage for future touring and sustain us for years to come. This is an expensive endeavor, and an investment for sure. We are aiming to raise a portion of what we need to be successful in this goal, and ease our travels.
Here is a breakdown of our projected expenses:
Vehicle Maintenance: $500
Who can really know? Anything can happen, we suppose... We're budgeting $500 for anything that may come up.
Yup. It's a lot of miles. Our "Peanut" runs on biodiesel and veggie oil so we'll be supplementing with free fuel whenever possible. Still, it's our biggest expense.
We averaged $15 per day for 90 days. Yes, we live frugally! A lot of camp-stove cooking!
Many of our nights will be spent camping, sleeping in our car, surfing couches or staying with hosts, or shacking up with friends, fans and family. That said, we figure we'll need to stay at the occasional motel. We're figuring for 15 nights at $50 per night.
This brings our total (with album finalization costs) to $6300. The $5000 we are raising will be enough to defray some expenses and to keep us moving and secure as we travel.
Pledge a Donation!
All this month, you can pledge a donation to our project here on Kickstarter. All Kickstarter projects work like this: If we reach our target by the deadline, it's time to celebrate! Your pledges will be put through and our project will be funded. If we surpass our target amount, all the better! However, if we do not reach our goal by the deadline, those who pledge will not be charged, and we will keep none of what we have worked to raise.
To donate, simply go to the right hand side of this page where our "prizes" are listed. Yes! If you donate at certain price points, there are a variety of rewards, all of them very snazzy, to express our gratitude for your generosity.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your interest in our project, and for taking time out of your day to learn about exactly what we're doing. In addition to donating to our endeavor, we welcome you to help us
by sharing this page and our music with others.
We look forward to seeing you sometime soon, in a club, cafe, festival or living room!
