The Speed Pro Agility and Acceleration Trainer is the future of wearable technology in training for sports that require acceleration, speed and agility. It will help democratize athletic excellence. Using a microwave sensor, accelerometer and RF modules, the Speed Pro precisely measures and transmits key performance data to a smartphone app as you train. Speed Pro allows you to store and track your performance data and analytics on the web that can be accessed from the app or via your PC. It’s your best tool and biggest advocate as you train hard to improve your time and explosiveness.

Okay, so we aren’t all going to be NFL players, but 0.23 seconds is how much error a human timer can introduce into a race time. That’s why the NFL uses an electronic system to time the athletes at their combine. If you’re trying to work on your 40 time, your time from home to first base, or other short sprints (even up to 200 meters), you already know that getting 0.23 seconds better is a big deal! To get faster, you need to analyze your time. How long did it take you to reach your maximum speed? Using Speed Pro as your guide, you can experiment with your technique. If you try taking shorter steps, does that get you to your maximum speed faster? Does it improve your overall time? Speed Pro gets down to the nitty gritty of your performance, allowing fine tuning in the areas that will make you an explosive athlete.
A basic tenet of the vast majority of sports is the ability to react quickly. Speed Pro helps you assess your reaction time and its improvement over time. First, you can compare how you do in a race start (where the Body Module starts the timer when it signals you to start) vs. an automatic start (where the Body Module senses when you’ve started your race and automatically starts the timer). When you do a “race start,” Speed Pro will provide the time between when the module signaled you to go and when you actually reacted. By running lots of short races and getting Speed Pro’s precise, accurate feedback, you’ll get the repetition and feedback you need to improve.
Drills that test agility are incredibly important to ensuring progress. Speed is one thing, but a successful combination of speed and agility takes your training to the next level. Repetition is the key to improvement in agility, so doing drills that require agility, and simply tracking your rate of improvement is a great way to know whether or not your training program is helping you. Speed Pro gives you the accurate timing you need to know what is and isn’t working for you.
With the Speed Pro, you’ll find out exactly how fast you ran your route, performed the cone drill or ran the bases… and you’ll even get key information to pinpoint where you need to improve, such as how quickly you accelerate, your velocity profile, maximum speed over time and distance.

How It Works
The Speed Pro Agility and Acceleration Trainer consists of three key components that operate together to capture key data about your run or sprint.
The Body Module
Wear it on your arm or clip on your clothing and select what kind of start you prefer: manual, auto-detect, or simulated race start. Choose your own start with the manual setting. Let The Body Module sense your start with the auto-detect setting or practice your race starts with the simulated race start mode to have the unit sound the starter signal. This piece captures the raw performance data from your run.
The Finish Line Module
The Marker or Finish Line Module is placed at the end of the run or sprint and captures finish times at 0.01 second resolution with accuracy comparable to laser systems that costs thousands of dollars. This module contains the processor and memory to analyze and turn the raw data into performance profiles. It then transmits your performance data and profiles to your smartphone.
The Smartphone Adapter
The Smartphone Module communicates seamlessly with the other modules and easily connects to your smartphone via the audio jack. Using patented RF communication with up to a 100 yard range, the module collects measurement data from the other products, such as your time, max speed, velocity profile, acceleration profile and time to distance that will be loaded into the XBand app for your viewing.
The Speed Pro App
With the XBand Sports mobile app, you can view and analyze your performance data on your smartphone (iOS and Android smartphones). Here is an example of the performance analytics that will be available to help profile an athlete practicing short distance sprints. The detailed analysis as well as coaching tips based on your individual performance is directly available from your smartphone. The app accesses the analytic engine that resides in the XBand Sports web site, where it will continue to grow and improve over time.
Our vision at XBand Sports is provide app and web based services where athletes can store and share their data.This allows athletes to compare their performances against teammates, other athletes and even other world-class athletes. Coaches, scouts and other players will eventually be able to see their performance information on the XBand Sports leaderboard or connect with them through the app or web site. The app is well on its way to being complete.
Exactly what information does Speed Pro provide?
The precise time it takes to reach a set distance: you can be running from home to first base, home to home, dribbling a soccer ball in a cone drill or running the length of the basketball court - you name it. You set the distance and the event using the Finish Line (Marker) Module. If your activity takes you past the finish line module multiple times, you can even use it to give you “split times.” Your time, distance and speed profiles to help you understand exactly how you are performing in your race… how long to reach your top speed, what is the average speed, do you maintain your top speed to finish line? Pinpoint where you’ve got to train harder to beat your opponent. Acceleration and agility profile - How quickly are you able to go from stand still to top speed? How quickly do you react to a start signal? When do you reach maximum acceleration? Speed Pro can provide data and analytics to answer all of these questions precisely and in real time.
How accurate is the XBand system?
The Speed Pro Agility and Acceleration Trainer captures race times to a resolution of 1/100th of a second, and has accuracy comparable to the laser based system often used in professional sporting events. So, our assessment is that it's incredibly accurate, but we hope you’ll be the judge!
How does the coaching part work?
The analytics engine breaks down the individual performance data and compares it to that of others in the XBand Sports database. It gauges your performance against comparable groups as well as other reference groups - professionals and other world-class athletes - to highlight areas of strength and weakness. The coaching analytics then help you identify a set of drills and exercises to further improve your areas of strength and shore up areas of weakness
What type of batteries does the system use and how long does it last?
The Speed Pro Agility and Acceleration Trainer uses 4 AA batteries for the Finish Line module and a single CR2032 battery for the body module. The batteries last for over 360 hours in normal operations, which would consist of 2 hours of training events, 3 days a week.
What added features come in a Coach or School Pack?
Our coach and school packages offer functionality for team training. With just one system, coaches and schools would only get a fraction of the results that they can get from the larger packages.
With a school package, there are enough modules to go around. They’ll also be capable of being used in multi-leg races when marker modules are placed at different distances from each other.
In addition to the extra functionality, we are adding school/team specific identifiers to the coach and school systems for added customization and as a theft deterrent. We’ll even pre-configure and pair the units so that coaches and athletic directors do not have to set up and configure each unit separately!
The XBand Sports team is a group of 10 highly trained engineers, marketing, and business professionals with decades of experience delivering consumer products for fortune 500 companies. We have been developing the Speed Pro for over 2 years. After a great deal of time spent prototyping and testing, we are near completion for launch.
Inspired by our own experiences growing up playing sports, we were motivated to create the Speed Pro so that athletes everywhere could have access to tools and coaching necessary to reach their athletic aspirations. It is our hope that the Speed Pro will make it possible for athletes who may not have the time or money for personal coaching to gain access to the same level of training. While our first product offering focuses on speed and agility metrics, we are in the process of developing other devices that measure a full range of athletic movements. We’ve almost perfected the Jump Pro Trainer already, which will work with the Body Module and the Smartphone Adapter to accurately track and help improve an athlete’s vertical jumps.
In the late summer of 2012, we created the radar board. This board provided early insight into the capabilities of microwave sensors and their applicability to detecting movement. We eventually used the sensor and algorithms for the Marker Module.

From the fall of 2012 through the winter of 2013, we worked on the early board to develop our own RF, as well as accelerometer and gyro algorithms. This eventually led to the development of the Body Module. We only use the accelerometer for the Body Module.
Throughout the summer of 2013, we constructed the early board that would capture our RF signal and convert it to audio file for smartphone use. This was the first instantiation of the Smartphone Module.
During this time, we were also working on a product that would communicate the information with smartphones. The image above shows the prototype we used to investigate the transmission of data to smartphones. We added the little board to the right and wired it to our Marker Module Prototype.
At this point, we had developed a system that was almost full functional. We began to test functionality, including the product’s accuracy relative to lasers, communication between units, and communication with smartphones, tablets, and the web.
Since September of 2013, we’ve created developed a full manufacturing prototypes for the XBand system. The product provides form, fit, and function. We’re in our final rounds of testing and refining the modules.

As far as the development of our app goes, we’ve been working since August of 2013 to finalize the app and web UI and functionality. The app is fully functional, and it successfully receives and stores the data transmitted to it. We are just polishing the final user interface design.
We have researched and planned all of our channels for our manufacturing process. Our PCB/PCBA is manufactured at Integrated Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) in Vista, CA. Tooling and Plastics are manufactured in Pacific Plastics in Vista, CA. The final assembly will be done at IMS. Regulatory and Certification will be done in Nemko USA in Carlsbad, CA.
Our final prototypes are built in IMS and they are undergoing testing. The Plastics Tooling is under review. Regulatory plans are in place with Nemko. App and Web development are both underway. Please see below our manufacturing process calendar for an exact time frame.
We have a firm grasp of risks and challenges ahead of us. We have had working products for over a year and know the products well. We have been working closely with manufacturing and have a good grasp on supply availability, manufacturing processes, and quality control. We also have been working with our regulatory and certification partner to make sure the process is streamlined and they are ready to go.
As you can imagine, capturing intricate performance data from athletes while they train is not easy. That’s why we are undergoing our final field trial of many with production-ready prototypes. We are verifying the accuracy of our data, and comparing the results to known benchmarks.
