Soundskins is founded by VANMOKUM and designed by Studio Truly Truly, who worked closely together with the TextielMuseum. Together they developed these 3D knitted covers with a customized fit for your Sonos speaker! Tests done by the laboratory of acoustics at the Technical University of Eindhoven ensured that the skins don’t affect the sound.
By supporting Soundskins you’ll be able to be one of the first owners of this beautiful cover for your Sonos speaker.
HOW IT WORKS
How does Soundskins work exactly? Well, it’s actually pretty simple. Each Sonos speaker has its own cover and you can easily adjust the cover to your speaker. Just take a look:
FULL USE OF PUSH AND SWIPE FUNCTIONS
Soundskins is designed to perfectly fit the shape of your Sonos speaker. This is why the cover is so special, it’s incredibly difficult to knit an edge or a corner in textile - this is usually simply sewed together. This technique is called ‘3D knitting’. If you take a closer look at our Soundskin you can see all details and these ‘3D knitted edges’.
Oh and of course! When your Sonos speaker is wearing the skin, you still have full use of Sonos’ push and swipe functions…!
ALWAYS MAINTAIN WIRELESS CONNECTION
When your Sonos speaker is wearing Soundskins, you won't lose any WiFi connection. This means you can still switch to all your favorite songs with your phone, tablet or laptop!
Soundskins comes in 5 different colors, so they can easily blend into your interior. We have the following options that are designed to match your personal style: Smoke White, Olive Green, Stone Blue, Charcoal Black and Copper.
If you are wondering why the name of our colors are not specific; it’s because the Soundskins are made out of several colors. For example, the Olive Green is made of the following threads: dark green, olive green and black. So even though the main color is green, the appearance of the skin is more intense than just that.
HOW SOUNDSKINS IS DEVELOPED
After two years of researching and testing, Soundskins came to what it is today: a 3D knitted cover for your Sonos speaker. This cover is designed to perfectly fit the shape of your Sonos speaker (Play 1, Play 3, Play 5, Sub and Playbar). Studio Truly Truly were uncompromising and wanted to maintain the sound quality of your speaker. The previous mentioned 3D knitting technique was used to realize this. To be absolutely sure, tests done by the laboratory of acoustics of the Technical University of Eindhoven ensured Soundskins are acoustically transparent. It was important to us Soundskins would become a product everyone would want to put in their home, so we chose colors that would match our users interior.
Soundskins is not a prototype or a concept anymore. The skins have been thoroughly tested and are ready to be shipped.
The best part is of course that, with your purchase, you support the project and make it possible to actually realize Soundskins.
Founded by VANMOKUM
We’re VANMOKUM and from our studio in Amsterdam, we design, develop and admire beautiful and unique products and brands. Our founder, Arno Ruijzenaars, asked Studio Truly Truly to collaborate and design Soundskins.
Designed by Studio Truly Truly
Truly Truly is a design studio operating from the Netherlands and is founded by the Australian couple Kate and Joel Booy. The duo’s creative endeavours aren’t bound to a single discipline; over the past few years, the studio has created lighting, artistic objects, furniture, textiles and sculptural elements for spaces. Because of this and other amazing designs, Truly Truly was a sensible choice for designing Soundskins. Studio Truly Truly in return started a collaboration with the TextielMuseum to develop a technical 3D knitting technique for Soundskins.
Developed in collaboration with the TextielMuseum/TextielLab
The TextielMuseum is a museum based in Tilburg in the Netherlands. This year they won the biggest museum price in the Netherlands... they became Museum of the year 2017! Besides inspiring exhibitions, the TextielMuseum features a highly innovative TextielLab. This lab consists of absolute experts when it comes to knitting innovation in the Netherlands. No wonder they’ve worked together with Dutch designers such as Studio Job, Marcel Wanders, Hella Jongerius, Viktor and Rolf and many others.
