A titanium front flipper knife using high-end blade steel that is reasonably priced did not exist, until now. The Jinx is the answer to those who want a knife that doesn't take up their entire pocket, a knife that won't jab your hand when you reach into your pocket, a knife that will last a lifetime and stands out in a crowded knife market.
The Jinx is a modern folding knife made with quality materials. It features a minimalist design that sacrifices no functionality. The Jinx is your perfect everyday companion.
Why Materials Matter
Not all knives are made equally. The Jinx uses the best material available to ensure performance and longevity. The handles are made out of 6AL-4V titanium or Grade 5 titanium. 6AL-4V titanium is most commonly used in the aerospace and medical industry. Using this material allows the Jinx to be lightweight and exceptionally strong.
The blade is made from Bohler M390. M390 is a 3rd generation powder metallurgy stainless steel. What does this does this mean? That blades made with M390 have extremely high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance, and enduring toughness, so your knife will stay sharp longer and be ready when you need it.
Small Parts = Big Deal
Using the correct small parts makes a big difference in function. Captured ceramic bearings ensure a smooth opening knife and no lost balls during disassembly. A hidden "D" shaped pivot screw and corresponding notch in the frame make adjusting the pivot a one tool job.
The Jinx features a stainless steel lock bar insert that doubles as an over-travel stop. The lock bar insert provides a steel surface for the blade to mate up when the knife is locked open. This prolongs life of the lock bar as well as prevents the lock from sticking. The over-travel stop does not allow the lock bar to be over extended so your knife continues to lock open safely.
The Jinx started life as a sketch drawn on graph paper. The drawing represented my idea of the perfect "everyday carry knife" with a minimalist design that retains a strong presence. It is a knife you can depend on everyday, and it won’t scare your grandma.
When designing the Jinx, I took influences from many great knifes on the market and blended them with new ideas. The result is a unique knife that fits your hand, slides into your pocket, and punches above it's weight class right out of the box.
The Jinx's design provides an ergonomic handle that fits the hand and prevents fatigue during extended use.
The length of the blade comes in just under 3” making it long enough for most tasks and still legal to carry almost everywhere. I wanted a knife that fit my pocket and let me still access other items. There is nothing to catch your hand on or stab into your other belongings riding in your pocket.
After spending a few months using the prototype some small changes were made.
First, the shape of the flipper tab was made slightly less sharp to make flipping the knife easier.
Second, was the addition of relief cuts on the lock bar and handle to make disengaging the lock bar easier.
The final change was going to a light stonewash on the DLC finish. This will keep the finish looking as good as day one after all the use you put it though.

Risks and challenges
Using a trusted manufacturer to produce the knives helps minimize risks associated with production time and manufacturing quality. My manufacturer has been producing knives for over 10 years and have a strong reputation for quality.
A tariff on steel may effect costs and is a potential risk to fulfilling production.
This is my first experience with kickstarter and selling a product. There is some risk of delays in shipping products to everyone once they arrive from the manufacturer. I do not foresee any issues and will use the production time to solidify the shipping plan and process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
