“WeQu is like Tinder with meaning.” - Mary M.
“Playing WeQu is a fun experience to talk about serious and important things in your life” - Anneke G.
WeQu is a playful, social, interactive version of a personality test. This new game is the ultimate wingman to getting to know other people as you get to know yourself. WeQu is a great icebreaker for meeting new acquaintances as well as a way to deepen long-standing relationships. As you draw cards and learn about others, you also discover how the world sees you, all in a positive game.
The WeQu deck is composed of cards describing essential virtues and characteristics. Players take turns drawing two cards and selecting the card that best fits their playing partner. As you play, WeQu promotes good conversations. You thus discover things about yourself and others you might otherwise never learn or realize.
WeQu is proven to enhance your relationships with your friends and people you want to get to know. And, as a Kickstarter exclusive we have Love Cards especially designed for dating and lovers!
The WeQu game was created by Oh Kwon, Ted Munter and Hari Sreenevaslu entrepreneurs based in Amsterdam. We are building WeQu because getting to know yourself and others should be fun and enjoyable. We need your help to make WeQu the future of knowing who you are.
Thanks for getting to know us a bit
- Oh, Ted, and Hari
As a South Korean entrepreneur who moved to Amsterdam in his late 20’s, Oh Kwon found getting to know people from completely different personal backgrounds inspiring, fascinating but also sometimes difficult. He realized his physical journey from one culture to another mirrors the journey we all make everyday with the people around us as we try to get to know other people and ourselves.
This inspired him to create WeQu, a fun way for people to get to know others while revealing the best qualities of myself.
After building and testing several prototypes, he developed a game concept that resembles a personality test but which also allows participation from others. This cool new methodology has been tested with more than 100 playtests and proven to be extremely fun and insightful.
Once the prototype was created, Oh proposed this concept to Ted Munter, an American writer and coach based in Amsterdam. Ted loved the idea and worked to develop cards that describe essential characteristics of people. Harikishore Sreenivasalu, an Indian born, Amsterdam based software architect is creating the WeQu app that compliments this card game. This is how our small team based in Amsterdam was born.
From testing the prototypes we came to learn how delicate the cards need to be in what they describe and ask. Thoughtful and fun descriptions about people’s virtues is key to the game experience. We struggled to get the right text. The ideal text should be fun to read, as short as a tweet, yet also trigger useful conversations among a wide range of people.
Here is one iteration of cards we went through to best describe Creativity as an example:
This is how the Creativity card looks like:
Of course at WeQu we are always striving to improve the fun and use of our game. We know you can help us in this by offering questions and qualities you would like to see as part of the WeQu LOVE deck. Join us @playWeQu Twitter and Facebook with your suggestion and become part of our final product!
Background of this game
Aristotle, a Greek philosopher born in 380 B.C., is one of the most influential philosophers in human history. His ideas greatly inspires WeQu’s overall mission and core concept.
Aristotle’s prime concern was what makes people happy. He argues that good and successful people all possess distinctive virtues. He proposed 11 virtues ranging from Courage to Temperance from Truthfulness to Wittiness. WeQu re-visits his ideas and has now developed the modern version of Aristotle's virtues to form 32 essential qualities that are easy to understand. WeQu adds unique game mechanics which allow players to engage with virtues straight out of Aristotle's school of wisdom in a fun, casual and social manner.
If you ever take a personality test, it is probably based on the 'Big Five' theory. The Big Five Personality traits are a widely validated theory which describe the human personality. The five personality factors are 1) Openness to experience, 2) Conscientiousness, 3) Extraversion, 4) Agreeableness and 5) Neuroticism. WeQu was crafted so that most of the statements on WeQu's cards have one to one associations with one of five factors. By allowing other players to choose relevant traits for you, WeQu offers more accurate and insightful results. Our complimentary app is a great way to keep all your game results in one place and view the statistics of your personal profile. The more you play, the higher accuracy you get!
Neuroscience has discovered that the analytical part of our brain fights with the social part of our brain. When the analytic brain network is engaged, our ability to consider and appreciate the human cost of our action gets repressed. This explains how a CEO with exceptionally analytical thinking can become oblivious to the social consequences of his or her decisions. This is known as Social Brain Theory.
WeQu is designed to enhance and increase your social brain power. As each player selects the game card statements, players reflect on how they are perceived and exercise their social brain power. Players also experience enhanced connections and form deeper bonds with other players which makes this game a must-have for anyone and everyone. Play WeQu together and get more social!
