About this project
When BBC news reported his daily 11-mile bus trip around Plymouth, rescue cat Casper, rose to worldwide fame.
However, it was his untimely death by a hit and run driver in 2010, that pushed his popularity to even greater heights with a huge outpouring of grief around the world.
Casper's story becomes a worldwide bestseller
His owner, Sue Finden, was so touched by the response that she co-wrote a book about his adventures. The book quickly became a bestseller and has been translated into a number of languages including; Spanish, Indian, Russian and Mandarin Chinese.
Casper in the Press
Casper on Wikipedia
The movie will be a heart-warming drama, with documentary-style cinematography.
Our screenplay, adapted from the book, will be a live action full-length dramatisation of Casper’s life and how his owner, Sue Finden, copes with his sudden rise to international stardom. Heart-warming in tone, the film will be a celebration of all that is wonderful about great British drama. The latest cinematic techniques will allow us to get up close and personal to our feline friends, whilst ensuring that they remain relaxed and true to themselves. We have taken inspiration from a wide variety of genres including; Marley & Me, French short Les Quatre Cents des Chat and the IKEA advertisement; "Happy Inside".
Casper look-a-like chosen from a national search
To find a cat that looks like Casper, is comfortable with people, and, likes traveling, is a tough brief. We put out a story in Your Cat magazine and local press. Hundreds of entries later (even some international ones) we found him. His name is Rufus and amazingly he comes from Saltash just a few miles from where Casper lived.
Veronica Roberts to play Sue Finden
British actress Veronica Roberts will play the part of Sue Finden. Veronica has appeared in numerous film and TV productions including; Emma, Little Britain, EastEnders and Midsummer Murders.

Touching words from Casper’s owner, Sue Finden:
“Before Casper came into the public eye, I used to say to my husband ‘Casper has human traits’. I would often look at Casper and say to him, ‘Who are you? His eyes seemed to want to tell me something.
Right from the start when we rescued him, he was always off somewhere. We never knew where and we had no idea at the time how much he loved anything on wheels. The bigger the better! We moved house many times and wherever we went he made himself known. In Frome, ladies used to carry him around the chemist shop like a baby, while waiting for their prescriptions. Then of course in Plymouth, unbeknown to me, he frequented the number 3 bus to go joy riding around the city. After news broke of Casper's antics, so many local Plymouth people contacted me and thanked me for the comfort Casper had given them on the bus.
We are very proud a film is being made about him. He really did touch so many people’s hearts with an aura which very difficult to describe. In a world where there is a lot of sadness and loneliness everyone needs a little bit of Casper in their lives”.
Where will your money go?
Every penny raised will make the film look better. Better sets, better equipment, better production values, and more time in post -production. We are an independent production company that exists in the real world. Through our experience and contacts, we have already pulled in a lot of favours. We do have some private backing but, we are £20,000 short of doing justice to this story. The script is ready, the team poised. If we can raise this money, through your support, we will be going into production in September. And under the watchful eye of our Production Manager Jane Hudson, you can be sure every penny we raise will be well spent.
An offer for Big Spenders
If playing an even bigger role in supporting this film takes your fancy, there are other sponsorship and product placement opportunities available beyond this Kickstarter campaign. Please contact us direct at email@example.com
If we don't reach our target, we don’t get your money
This is the scary bit. Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we don’t reach our target of £20,000, then none of the money pledged to us, is ours. Not a penny is taken from our backers.
Fish all round if we exceed our target!
Contributions can exceed our goal. So please don't stop giving. To exceed our target would be amazing and enable us to make an even better film. Salmon all round for our feline stars!
Simply click the green "Back this Project" button in the upper right corner of this website. Or, click the green gear icon next to your desired reward. After you select your pledge level and reward, you'll be directed to Amazon payments, where it will feel just like you're making a purchase. And remember until we reach our goal, your credit card will not be charged.
You can change your pledge at anytime
There’s no limit to the number of times you can adjust your pledge within the fundraising period. On our campaign page you’ll see that the “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Simply click and you can enter a new amount or choose a new reward.
Aside from having our heart-felt gratitude, we have selected a range of rewards to say thank you. How about having a picture of you and your cat on our screen credits? Or, you can even buy your cat a part in the movie.
